The Grand Show: Slot Overview

At times—more as a note than a complaint—Push Gaming can feel like that famously tough action star who’s done 20 blockbuster brawlers and then decides to try romantic comedies, period dramas, maybe even a bit of Shakespeare. The studio was once best known for brutally demanding slots like Razor Shark, yet it has also moved into more relaxed, mass-appeal releases such as 10 Swords. Again, that’s simply an observation. Another title that fits neatly into this more mainstream lane is The Grand Show, a circus-themed slot centred on Instant Prize symbols (including Jackpot symbols), free spins, and a pleasantly odd—in a good way—Bonus feature.

The Grand Show shifts its setting depending on the stage of play. The base game begins outdoors in daylight, set against a group of sharp-topped circus tents. Free spins keep the same location, but the scene turns to night, while the Bonus round brings you inside a tent to reveal its main attraction. Up until the Bonus triggers, The Grand Show can come across as fairly traditional and a touch generic—something in the vein of The Golden Ticket 2, for instance—though it does have a couple of tricks that can catch you off guard.

Compared to Push Gaming’s tougher reputation, The Grand Show is dialled back: it’s a medium volatile slot, and it offers a range of RTP figures depending on the chosen options. The standard setup returns 96.28% RTP when wagering 5 c to $/€100 per spin, and there are also two Push Bet options. One makes it more likely to trigger free spins for a stake increase of 40% (RTP 96.35%), while the other increases the chance of activating the Bonus feature for an extra 60% on the stake (RTP 96.38%). Both the base game and free spins run on a 5-reel, 4-row layout with 20 paylines.

Low-value symbols are the J-A card ranks shown in a circus-style typeface, paying 2-4 times the bet for a 5 OAK win. Higher-paying icons include popcorn, a hotdog, a clown, and a ringmaster, awarding 12x to 100x for five of a kind. A wild can appear on any of the five reels and substitutes for all standard pay symbols. A full line of 5 wilds also pays 100x.

The Grand Show: Slot Features

The Grand Show’s feature set is built around two headline acts: the free spins round and the Bonus feature. Throughout play, keep an eye out for Instant Prize symbols and Jackpot symbols that can be won.

Instant Prizes and Jackpot Symbol

Instant Prize symbols drop in with values of 1x to 500x the bet, while the Jackpots symbols are the Mini, Minor, Major, Mega, and Grand, worth 10x, 50x, 250x, 1,000x, and 10,000x the bet, respectively. Top Hat symbols can appear on the leftmost and the rightmost reels. When a Top Hat symbol lands on the leftmost reel, it collects Instant Prize symbols or Jackpot symbols on consecutive reels, beginning from the leftmost reel. Instant Prizes and Jackpot symbols can land on any reel.

Free Spins

The ticket acts as the scatter symbol. Landing 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols in the base game grants 10 free spins, or 10 free spins with minimum x5 Instant Prize symbols, or 10 free spins with minimum x10 Instant Prize symbols, respectively. In free spins, hitting 3, 4, or 5 scatters adds +3, +4, or +5 free spins, respectively. Aside from the increased minimums, free spins are not formally much different from the base game.

Bonus Feature

If a Top Hat symbol lands on both the leftmost and rightmost reels, the Bonus feature is triggered. Any Instant Prize symbols or Jackpot symbols visible at that moment carry over into the Bonus Feature. After activation, 6 spins are awarded, and the action switches to a 5×8 gaming grid. Only the bottommost 5 positions spin. Along the right side is a column of multipliers that multiply prizes on their corresponding row. At the bottom of reels 1-4, Instant Prize symbols, Jackpot symbols, or Nudge Up symbols may land. When an Instant Prize or Jackpot symbol lands on the bottom row, it move up by +1. The next spin then takes place. If a Prize moves up into a space already occupied by another Prize, the two merge into one, boosting the values accordingly. The Nudge Up symbol nudges any Prize on its reel up by +1. If all 4 positions on the top row become filled, the Grand Jackpot is awarded and the Bonus ends.

On the bottom position of the rightmost reel, these symbols may land:

  • Nudge All – pushes all Prizes up by 1.
  • Boost – raises all Multipliers on the rightmost reel.
  • Retrigger – grants 1, 2, or 3 extra spins.

After the spins are used up, prizes on the grid are multiplied by the multiplier on their row, and the combined total is paid out. If the Bonus feature triggers during free spins, the game returns to the free spins round and continues any remaining free spins once the Bonus has finished.

Feature Buy

The Grand Show’s available feature buys are as follows: Free spins triggered by 3 scatters – 46.4x the bet, Free spins triggered by 4 scatters – 86.6x the bet, Free spins triggered by 5 scatters – 147x the bet, Random free spins – 75x the bet, Bonus Feature – 58.6x the bet, Super Bonus Feature where prizes have a minimum of x10 – 450x the bet.

The Grand Show: Slot Verdict

Games Global studios (and plenty of others) have saturated the market with this style of static jackpot slot, so the idea of loading up yet another one can feel a bit wearying. Still, there are slot developers—and then there are slot developers—and Push Gaming sits comfortably near the top of the pile. Its releases usually carry a level of polish that many mid- and lower-tier casino games simply don’t, and The Grand Show follows that pattern. It may not be the ultimate, jaw-dropping spectacle, but it can absolutely deliver entertainment that feels pretty grand when it decides to turn it on.

It’s also interesting how slots often arrive in pairs, trios, or more—by coincidence or by intent. Not long before covering The Grand Show, we’d been hands-on with Hungry Bear’s circus slot, Big Top Terror, and the two games differ in plenty of respects. The comparison is only here to underline the gap between a studio leaning on familiar mechanics wrapped in acceptable presentation and a studio that repeatedly pushes online gambling forward. That “pushes” is the hint as to which is which.

Even though much of The Grand Show is recognisably familiar—land a collector symbol, land some Instant prize symbols, and watch the cash roll in—it still finds ways to twist expectations and inject something fresh. That’s notable given how prominently those dreaded static jackpots are featured. For this review, the clear highlight was the Bonus feature. When it hits its stride, it’s genuinely fun, dropping prizes, nudging them upward, and then paying everything out at the end with the help of the relevant multipliers.

The remainder of The Grand Show is more conventional, that’s fair. But taken as a whole—especially with a 10,000x max win—PG game producer Michael Engan’s line, ‘The Grand Show… looks like a take on a classic slots game, but offers something new,’ feels accurate.
