Tanked: Slot Overview

Déjà vu is that odd sense you’ve lived a moment before—maybe in a dream, a passing thought, or even a previous life. There are plenty of theories for it, but in online gambling, déjà vu can also come from slot creators who “borrow” themes, take “inspiration” from rivals, or simply lift ideas outright. That feeling may well hit when players spin Nolimit City’s Tanked. It looks remarkably close to ELK Studios’ popular Pirots series, though in typical NLC style, the studio has packed its take with an arsenal of explosive extras to put its own stamp on the formula.

Here, “Tanked” isn’t about having one drink too many—it’s a battle between four Warlords who roam the reels, blasting each other in actual tanks. Small ones. On top of that, destroying character symbols is a core aim, since doing so can produce several tactically useful results. Tanked may not be quite as eye-catching as the Pirots games, but its battered battlefield (and later heavenly?) setting does the trick, backed by suitably conspiratorial, moody audio.

Tanked’s play grid is capable of expanding, but in its starting default state it runs on 6 reels with 4-6-6-6-6-4 positions. There are no ways or paylines, and it doesn’t rely on clusters or scatters to form wins. Instead, each on-screen character can collect matching coloured symbols via the xLoot feature described below. On the stats front, players are looking at a 10 out of 10 rated highly volatile model and, of the three RTP settings, 96.04% is the highest. Bets range from 20 c to $/€100 per spin, and multiple bonus buys or ante bets can be switched on.

There are only four paying symbols in Tanked, shown in red, green, light blue, and dark blue. Each pay symbol colour is tied to one of the characters that can collect it. At the lowest individual level, symbol values run from 0.05x to 0.15x per symbol.

Tanked: Slot Features

Tanked is loaded with features, including xLoot, multipliers, Tank Boosters, xBombs, Barrel Bombs, Booms, Kill Counts, xNudge Wilds, xSplits, grid expansions, Carnage Spins, Carnage Royale Spins, Mayhem Spins, Nolimit Boosters, and Nolimit Bonus Buys.

xLoot & Multipliers

Wins are paid when the currently active moving character collects symbols that match its same colour. Any character can also collect wild symbols. Once every possible collection has been made, symbols fall to refill the reels. In addition, any character can pick up multiplier symbols, and these affect all wins. Multipliers add together.

Tank Boosters

Tanked includes four different Tank Boosters that characters can pick up. A character keeps the Tank Booster until there is no further movement on the screen, and then it activates it. They are:

  • Rocket – the character fires at the wall near a random enemy character. This explosion pattern removes all enemy characters and pay symbols, and increases the grid size by 1 step.
  • Grenade – the character tosses a grenade at a random enemy character. The blast removes all pay symbols in the explosion pattern.
  • Power Drill – a character equipped with a Power Drill drives to the largest matching symbol colour cluster. It clears enemy characters, pay symbols, and wilds in its path while collecting any Tank Boosters, multipliers, and scatter symbols. It does not affect the xBomb, Barrel Bomb, or MAXWIN symbols. If the Power Drill character cannot move, it explodes and removes pay symbols in the explosion pattern.
  • Airstrike – the character strikes up to 3 enemy characters, creating an explosion pattern.

Whenever a Tank Booster removes a character, that character loses a life and returns to the reels when new symbols drop in. If the affected character had already collected a Tank Booster before the blast, it keeps it for the next drop. Explosions do not impact scatters, xSplit, xNudge, or wild symbols.

xBomb, Barrel Bomb & Booms

xBombs and Barrel Bombs only detonate when there is no character movement and no available Tank Boosters. The xBomb clears all pay symbols in an explosion pattern and adds +1 to the overall multiplier. The Barrel Bomb clears all pay symbols in an explosion pattern and expands the grid either vertically or horizontally by +1 step.

If 3 characters are adjacent and no character can move, they trigger a Small Boom explosion, removing all pay symbols and character symbols in the explosion pattern. If 4 characters are adjacent and no character can move, they trigger a Big Boom explosion, removing all pay symbols and character symbols in the explosion pattern and increasing the grid size by +1 step.

Kill Count

A character loses a life when it falls within the explosion pattern of a Tank Booster, xBomb, Barrel Bomb, or a Boom. After 3 lives are lost, the character is killed, meaning it is removed from the reels together with all matching pay symbols. The character comes back after the next evaluation.

xNudge Wild & xSplit

The xNudge Wild symbol nudges down to the bottom of the reels or until it hits a non-paying symbol. If there is no multiplier when the xNudge lands, it sets the multiplier to 2. It then increases the multiplier by +1 for every step it nudges. If extra xNudge Wilds appear, a +1 multiplier is added. The xSplit symbol splits all pay symbols horizontally or vertically, doubling their size, then turns into a wild. It also doubles the value of any multiplier it hits.

Grid Expansion

The grid increases by +1 step when a Rocket hits a wall, a Barrel Bomb goes off, or a Big Boom is triggered. The expansion from 6×6 to 9×9 happens across these four stages: Step 1 – from 6×6 to 8×6 or 6×8 if the expansion is horizontal or vertical, respectively, Step 2 – from 6×8 or 8×6 to 8×8 if the expansion is horizontal or vertical, respectively, Step 3 – from 8×8 to 9×8 or 8×9 if the expansion is horizontal or vertical, respectively, and Step 4 – from 8×9 or 9×8 to 9×9 if the expansion is horizontal or vertical, respectively. The grid jumps directly to 9×9 if an xBomb or Barrel Bomb sits inside the explosion pattern of a Tank Booster.

Carnage Spins & Carnage Royale

Hitting 3 scatter symbols awards 5 Carnage Spins. During this feature, Multipliers, Kill Count, and grid size are carried over from the base game. If 4 scatters land, players receive 7 Carnage Royale free spins. In this mode, the Kill Count is carried over from the base game. The grid is set to 9×9, and +5 is added to the current multiplier, which is carried over from the base game. If all characters die in the same explosion during a free spin, the feature is upgraded to Mayhem Spins, and the remaining free spins continue in the upgraded mode.

Mayhem Spins

Mayhem Spins begin when every character loses all 3 lives and dies in the same explosion. The grid is set to 9×9, and +10 is added to the current multiplier, which is carried over. In Mayhem Spins, all characters’ lives are set to 1. If all characters die in the same explosion, +1 free spin is awarded and +10 is added to the multiplier.

Nolimit Boosters & Bonus Buy

For 3x the bet, the xBet increases the chance of triggering a bonus by more than 4 times. For 40x the bet, 4 random Tank Boosters are randomly assigned to characters. Selecting the bolt icon reveals the Nolimit bonus buy choices: Carnage Spins – 100x the bet, Carnage Royale – 300x the bet, Mayhem Spins – 500x the bet, Lucky Draw 40/40/20 – 260x the bet, and God Mode – 5,000x the bet for the chance of chasing the MAXWIN symbol.

Tanked: Slot Verdict

If anything is going to irritate the morality police, Tanked probably will, and it’s difficult not to see Nolimit City as a bit cheeky here. Tanked is, plainly, a lift of the Pirots-style roaming-board gameplay where characters collect same-coloured symbols—an approach ELK Studios used smartly not only in Pirots but also in Dam Beavers. Over there it’s called the CollectR mechanic; here it’s xLoot. Same idea, different label. Still, if you can overlook the copied/pilfered angle, Tanked brings a huge stack of features that help distinguish it from ELK’s version. It also offers a stronger RTP (assuming your casino provides the max RTP), and some players will simply prefer NLC’s particular flavour of math.

It isn’t gentle math—far from it—but Tanked links that brutal backend to some very satisfying front-end chaos when the features start detonating. A standout is the Kill Count, which wipes characters and their related symbols once enough lives have been burned through—3 in most cases, 1 during Mayhem Spins. Stripping the grid down to a single character and watching one symbol colour get hoovered up with a hefty multiplier banked is pure fun. That said, reaching Mayhem Spins naturally is likely to be a tough assignment—though it is, in theory, achievable for anyone not willing to pay 500x for the buy. And players who won’t do that probably won’t be eager to risk ten times more for the God Mode buy either, which NLC has bolted onto Tanked as if the game didn’t already have enough firepower.

Tanked’s maximum win is 25,000x the bet, and it can also be hit by landing a full MAXWIN symbol, 3×3 in size, in the reel area. So yes, Nolimit City may have committed a classic slot sin by openly copying someone else’s creative work—but, to be fair, they’ve done it with flair, equipping their version with heavy-duty weapons, piles of betting options, and a strong level-up style progression system.
