Sweet Alchemy 2: Slot Overview
Sequels—whether they’re books, films, TV shows, slots, or anything else—can go either way. Sometimes you get a genuine triumph like Top Gun: Maverick, which managed to hit big long after the original. Other times, the follow-up feels, to be polite, a bit unnecessary. Entertainment site Screen Rant has placed movies such as Independence Day: Resurgence, Dumb and Dumber To, and Zoolander 2 into that less flattering bracket. That brings us to Sweet Alchemy 2, the sequel to Sweet Alchemy, launched by Play’n GO back around 2018. That’s a sizeable gap before releasing a second entry, but Play’n GO tends to make calculated moves—so let’s dig into why the studio decided to return with number 2.
The first Sweet Alchemy was one of the developer’s cluster-pay titles, following the trail blazed by successes like Reactoonz and Moon Princess, though it never seemed to reach quite the same popularity. Still, there must have been enough demand, because the hat-wearing alchemist returns in the slightly anime-styled Sweet Alchemy 2. She stands beside the grid in a sugary cartoon fantasy setting, seemingly calling the gingerbread mansion on the hill at the top-left of the screen home. Chocolate is everywhere on the display; however, it also serves a gameplay purpose by blocking spaces on the grid—blocks that must be fully cleared to reach the free spins feature.

As for the grid itself, it has 81 positions across a 9×9 sized board, though each base game spin begins with only a 5×5 active area in the centre. Whenever at least 4 matching symbols land and connect vertically and or horizontally, they form a winning cluster, triggering two effects. First, the winning symbols are removed from the grid, and new symbols fall into place to fill the gaps. Second, an equal number of chocolate blocks are destroyed while increasing the active grid size, allowing more symbols to join the cascade. With a Highly volatile profile, the game lets players choose stakes from 10 p/c to $/€100 per paid symbol drop.
Sweet Alchemy 2 places 8 standard paying symbols onto the board, all designed as sweets in different colours and shapes. A basic four-of-a-kind cluster win pays 0.2 to 1 times the bet, while clusters of 20+ matching symbols return 50 to 250 times the stake. On top of that, two wild symbols can appear—Striped Wilds and Gobstopper Wilds—and both substitute for all regular symbols. Striped Wilds clear the row and column when they contribute to a win, while the Gobstopper Wild arrives with up to 5 lives.
Sweet Alchemy 2: Slot Features

If players can destroy all chocolate blocks during the base game, Sweet Alchemy 2 rewards them with 4 free spins, during which 2×2 size merged symbols can appear. Chocolate blocks stay in play, and clearing them all again grants another +4 free spins and increase the size of merged symbols each time. The first retrigger enables 3×3 merged symbols, and the second retrigger enables 4×4 merged symbols. Altogether, players can win up to 12 free spins.
Also, a meter shows up at the side of the screen during the feature, signalling a collection feature. Once the needed number of symbols has been collected, players receive potion bottles. Each potion bottle awards a spin in the bonus round, which takes place after free spins. When free spins finish, the bonus round runs if it has been earned. A segmented wheel then spins for a chance to award a multiplier of up to x25. That multiplier is applied to enhance the total win generated during free spins.

Sweet Alchemy 2: Slot Verdict
While it’s clearly connected to Sweet Alchemy number one, Sweet Alchemy 2 changes direction in several areas, presenting players with a fresh kind of objective. Previously, the task was collecting winning symbols to eventually unlock free spins; this time, the goal is wiping every last chocolate block off the screen. In certain respects, Sweet Alchemy 2 felt reminiscent of Relax Gaming’s cluster-smashing frenzy Cluster Tumble, although the streaks of consecutive wins here didn’t tend to run nearly as long. The alchemist’s voice lines have returned as well, which will either be a plus or a minus depending on your taste.
The voice work does suit the magical candy atmosphere and may come across as endearing, but Sweet Alchemy 2 can be a fairly demanding slot that often doesn’t fully get going until the choc blocks are cleared. After that, free spins kick in—and they can be tough too. To begin with, you only receive four spins, which doesn’t offer much breathing room, and although we reached the second bonus stage and landed a win multiplier, it wasn’t unusual for the feature to end right after the original four spins. So yes, it looks pretty volatile, and with 10,000x the bet available—up from the original’s 3,000x—Sweet Alchemy 2 certainly has the potential to go wild if everything lines up.
The world probably wouldn’t have ended if Sweet Alchemy 2 had never appeared, but it’s still a solid cluster-paying sweet-themed slot. It’s close enough to the first game to feel familiar, yet different enough to keep fans interested in something new. Between the block-clearing mechanic and the theme—which may split opinions—Sweet Alchemy 2 could be exactly the right mix for the players it’s aimed at.
