Storm to Riches: Slot Overview
One of the great perks of the internet is how easily it lets us peek into lifestyles that might otherwise stay unknown. Take life at sea: even if you’ve never set foot on a ship, you can instantly find videos showing the raw force of nature as massive waves batter ocean-going vessels. Watching modern ships being thrown around is scary enough, but it’s even more chilling to imagine facing those seas centuries ago in a groaning wooden boat. That sense of peril is captured in Games Global partner Northernlights Gaming‘s online slot Storm to Riches.
Storm to Riches creates its fear factor in two different ways—one grounded in reality, the other more mythical. First, there’s the backdrop: a Viking ship on the verge of being crushed by a wave that looks as large as, if not larger than, the vessel itself. Second, the game leans into legend with a dreaded creature from the depths, the Kraken. The Kraken ties into one of Storm to Riches’ features, which we’ll cover later. For now, soak in the rough weather and violent seas—hardly ideal for calm travel, but the title suggests storms can lead to riches, so perhaps it’s worth the risk.

Storm to Riches runs on an expandable grid that will most often sit in its standard 5-reel, 3-row layout. In this default state, 20 paylines are in play, but when the grid reaches its maximum height of 8-row, the number of paylines increases to 45. Rated as a medium volatile slot, Storm to Riches comes in four RTP versions, with the top setting returning up to 96.09%. It’s compatible across devices and supports stakes from 10 p/c to $/€20 per spin.
On the highest RTP configuration, the game posts a hit rate of 32.76%, and standard line wins require at least three matching symbols landing from the left side of the grid. Lower-paying icons are rough, rune-styled J-A card ranks, paying 0.5 to 1 times the bet for five-of-a-kind. Higher-value symbols include a beer mug, shield, axe, and helm, paying 2 to 10 times the bet for five. Appearing in both the base game and free spins is the boat wild. Wilds replace any regular paying symbol and can pay up to 100 times the bet when a five-wild line lands.
Storm to Riches: Slot Features

Another key detail about Storm to Riches’ wilds is that they initially appear on reel 5. After that, with each subsequent spin, the wild moves from right to left. Alongside substituting for pay symbols, wilds also interact with coins: if one or more coin symbols are present, each wild symbol collects the coin values.
Viking Treasure
Coin symbols may award 1 to 100 times the bet or contain one of the pot prizes. The pots are Mini, Minor, Major, and Grand, paying 20x, 50x, 500x, and 5,000x the bet, respectively.
Ride the Storm
Once a wild reaches reel 1, Ride the Storm can activate. When it does, the wild returns to reel number 5 and starts its voyage across the reels again. If Ride the Storm doesn’t trigger, the wild on reel 1 will exit the game. Ride the Storm can occur in both the base game and during free spins.
Kraken Reels
Kraken Reels can randomly trigger at any time in Storm to Riches. In the base game, it expands the grid up to 5 rows high and lasts for 1 spin. During free spins, when Kraken Reels activates, the grid grows up to 8 rows high and stays that way until the feature finishes. With every extra row added, 5 additional paylines are added as well.
Valhalla Free Spins
Scatter symbols landing on reels 1, 3, and 5 in the base game start Valhalla Free Spins. Players then pick one of two characters, revealing 4 coins with different values along with 8, 10, 15, or 20 free spins. In free spins, the selected character appears as a 2×2-sized block, displaying the 4 coin values.
Buy Bonus/Gamble
There are two options for trying to reach the free spins round faster. One is to purchase it outright for 50x the bet; the other is to gamble on a red-and-green segmented wheel for a chance to gain entry for 25x the bet.

Storm to Riches: Slot Verdict
The previous Northernlights Gaming slot we covered was Monkey Bonanza, a primate-led title where a coin collection mechanic drove much of the gameplay. The studio has followed that up with another release built around the same core idea. Given how close together the two games arrived, it was easy to assume a dose of coin-collect fatigue could set in—especially with Vikings being such a familiar (if often exciting) slot theme.
By the time it was all said and done, though, Storm to Riches showed it had a couple of surprises in reserve—whatever the Viking equivalent of a sleeve might be. It will naturally suit players who enjoy coin collection features, and while the market is already packed with them, Storm to Riches has a few quirks that help it separate itself at least somewhat. The most enjoyable moments came when more than one wild boat was chugging across the grid, vacuuming up coins. In theory, coin values can be sizeable—particularly the pot prizes—though everything depends on which coins appear, if any.
If you’re completely tired of coin-collect style slots, that’s understandable, as they keep rolling off production lines in a constant stream. Still, developers wouldn’t keep releasing them at this pace if players weren’t engaging with them, and Storm to Riches’ take on the formula should be lively enough to steer it toward an audience that appreciates this kind of voyage.
