Star Clusters 2: Slot Overview
When it first launched, Big Time Gaming’s Star Clusters offered players a peek at what online slots could evolve into. That was in 2020—five years ago now—and it’s hard not to notice how quickly that time has passed. Since then, the idea of breaking winning symbols into smaller ones via Megaclusters hasn’t exactly taken over the industry, even if it has popped up here and there. With Star Clusters 2, Big Time Gaming returns with a sequel that preserves the core concept while bringing more familiar add-ons into the spotlight, including wild multipliers and free spins.
The original Star Clusters felt like a surreal trip through alternate realities, as if you were slipping past the edge of the known world. Star Clusters 2 delivers a similar vibe, but this time the destination feels like a non-physical space built for AI beings rather than living organisms. A glowing, Tron-like grid stretches toward an unreachable infinity, backed by a celestial, electronic soundtrack. It’s still a forward-looking concept viewed through a retro filter—like a wireframe afterlife where fallen video game characters drift forever.

In the base game, Star Clusters 2 starts each spin on a grid set in a 4×4 formation. During free spins, the opening layout expands to 8×8. Whenever 5 or more matching symbols connect horizontally and/or vertically, they form a winning cluster and a series of effects can kick in, as explained shortly. The stake selector allows bets from 20c to $/€20 per spin, and the game comes with three RTP versions, with the highest reaching 96.63%. In terms of volatility, BTG has built it around a highly volatile model.
Star Clusters 2 uses 7 gem symbols as its pay icons. They return 0.1x to 0.8x the bet for a 5-symbol cluster, or up to 88x when 25+ to 15+ OAK land—higher-value symbols require fewer to form a paying cluster. Wild symbols substitute for adjacent symbols except Gold Wilds and scatters. Gold Wilds replace anything adjacent other than scatters and arrive with a random multiplier of x2 to x100. If multiple wilds are included in a winning cluster, their multipliers are added together and then applied to multiply the cluster payout.
Star Clusters 2: Slot Features

Additional mechanics in Star Clusters 2 include a reactions system, free spins featuring an unlimited Wild Multiplier value, and bonus buy options.
Reactions
After a winning cluster lands, every symbol in that cluster is replaced with four smaller symbols. If the smaller symbols then create wins, they are removed, and more symbols of the same reduced size fall from above to replace them, refilling every empty space on the grid. Reactions continue until no further wins appear, at which point the grid returns to its default size.
Free Spins
Scatters can only show up on the grid through reactions. In the base game, landing 4 or more scatters triggers 10 free spins, plus 1 extra free spin for each scatter beyond the fourth. Free spins include an unlimited Wild Multiplier that begins at x1 and increases by +1 whenever a reaction happens. The active Wild Multiplier amount is applied to all wilds when they take part in a winning cluster. The feature can also be extended with additional scatters: hitting 4 scatters awards +4 free spins, and 1 more free spin is added for every scatter beyond the fourth.
Feature Buy
Star Clusters 2’s feature buy allows players to jump straight into the bonus round. The two choices are 10 free spins for 60x the bet or 18 free spins for 160x the bet.

Star Clusters 2: Slot Verdict
Megaclusters has shown up in slots such as Relax Gaming’s Kluster Krystals, along with BTG’s own Cyberslot, Diamond Fruit, and a Megapays version, but it’s never truly exploded in popularity—especially with Megaways continuing to dominate—and it has mostly stayed quiet for years. Still, Big Time Gaming has decided the moment is right to bring it back and take another run at it. Perhaps to make it more accessible, the studio has leaned into more standard supporting features. For example, rather than requiring 5 or more consecutive reactions to unlock free spins, the bonus is now triggered simply by landing enough scatters. And instead of building a rising multiplier in the base game when Gold Wilds contribute to wins, Golden Wilds now arrive with multipliers already attached—often sizeable ones—making the flow more straightforward.
The progressive, journey-style element has been stripped out in favor of a classic “land scatters, win free spins” setup. In other words, the sense of grinding a boulder up a hill before letting it crash down into chaos is no longer part of the experience. Both styles have their strengths, though some players will likely prefer receiving a set of 10 free spins instead of working with 2, which was the starting amount in the previous game. As in the original, swapping initial winning symbols for four new ones delivers a distinctive kind of excitement, although it arguably plays best on a larger display rather than being compressed onto a phone screen. The free spins wild multiplier idea is also a smart touch, and because its value rises with any winning cluster—not only those involving Gold Wilds—it can build into meaningful totals. Not every time, but even when a large multiplier is present, it’s still interesting to watch how wild multipliers can sometimes fail to translate into truly massive payouts.
Star Clusters 2 isn’t lacking in punch, though, and its 34,500x maximum win shows what it’s capable of. As a follow-up, it’s a solid step forward for the Megaclusters concept, but whether these more traditional extras can move it from a niche idea into the mainstream remains to be seen.
