Squid Game One Lucky Day: Slot Overview
If you’ve somehow been off the grid for the past few years, one of the biggest—arguably the biggest—Netflix phenomena was Squid Game. The South Korean series from Hwang Dong-hyuk follows 456 contestants in a clandestine competition, putting their lives on the line for a shot at ₩45.6 billion (around €31 million). It became a global smash, racking up 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first four weeks. That’s over 188,356 years—about as far back as the emergence of homo sapiens, depending on which source you trust.
Now there’s an official online slot adaptation from Light & Wonder called Squid Game One Lucky Day. Light & Wonder has plenty of experience with branded collaborations, and here it’s done a solid job weaving loads of recognisable show elements into the game. The strongest nods arguably come through in the bonus rounds, though the base game’s unsettling visuals and audio should still hit the right notes for Squid Game fans.

The action in Squid Game One Lucky Day plays out on a 5-reel layout with 4 positions per reel and 40 paylines. Players can set stakes from 10 c or as high as £/€10, and there’s also a Buy Pass option for jumping straight into the bonus portion. When playing in the standard way (i.e., without purchasing bonuses), the default RTP is 95.95%, and the game’s math model is classed as medium volatile.
Low-paying symbols are the familiar cookies marked with circles, triangles, stars, and umbrellas, while the premium icons include a contestant, a Square Guard, the red light green light doll, the Frontman, and the logo. A 5-of-a-kind line of low symbols pays 2 times the bet for every type, while 5 matching premium symbols return 4 to 60 times the bet. Wilds can land on all reels and share the same payout value as the logo. They also substitute for any standard pay symbol to help complete winning lines.
Squid Game One Lucky Day: Slot Features

Squid Game One Lucky Day doesn’t offer any base-game features, so the excitement only kicks in once 3 scatter symbols land on reels 1, 3, and 5. With 3 scatters showing, the scatter on the rightmost reel spins to reveal the triggered feature.
Red Light Green Light Bonus
In each round of this bonus, players pick whether they want to move 1, 2, 3, or 4 steps as they try to reach the finish and unlock the Jackpot Round. If the chosen steps are completed successfully, a bet multiplier is awarded: 1 Step (1x to 10x the bet), 2 Steps (2x to 20x the bet), 3 Steps (3x to 50x the bet), or 4 Steps (4x to 100x the bet). Choosing fewer steps reduces both the potential reward and the danger. If the doll spots you at any point, the round ends and the win accumulated so far is paid out. Making it all the way to the end triggers the Jackpot Bonus. During the Jackpot Bonus round, players pick mystery silhouettes until 3 matching prizes appear. The 4 fixed jackpots are the Pink Guard Circle, the Pink Guard Triangle, the Pink Guard Square, or the Frontman, paying 4.56x, 45.6x, 456x, or 4,560x the bet, respectively.
Glass Bridge Bonus
When this bonus begins, players decide whether they’ll step left or right across a glass bridge. Successful steps can award:
- Wild Upgrades – the first upgrade is Falling Wilds, which move down 1 position on each spin till falling off; the second upgrade is Walking Wilds, which move 1 position from right to left till falling off, while the third upgrade is Locked Wilds which locks wilds in place on the grid till free spins end.
- 1, 2, or 3 extra spins.
- +1 to the win multiplier.
- 1 low pay symbol is removed.
Players can make a maximum of 18 moves. A failed step still grants an upgrade and then shifts play into the free spins stage, where any earned upgrades take effect.
Tug of War Bonus
Each free spin includes at least 1 wild stacked reel, and two teams pull it left and right. As the stack is tugged, more wild stacks may be uncovered, up to 4 in total. The spins keep going until the wild reel is pulled off the reels on either side. The losing side leaves 3 to 10 wilds on the grid, and once the payout has been calculated, the feature ends.
Buy Pass
The bonus buy pass lets players purchase direct access to the bonus round. For 50x the bet, a spin guarantees 3 bonus scatter symbols and 1 of the bonuses is randomly triggered. Using the Buy Pass changes the RTP to 96.13%.

Squid Game One Lucky Day: Slot Verdict
It’s interesting to imagine how this licence might have turned out in other developers’ hands. On the one hand, Light & Wonder is well-versed in branded slots—think Cluedo, Stargate, and numerous Monopoly tie-ins—yet few have truly been standouts. There’s a sense that with a more daring approach, Squid Game One Lucky Day could have been wickedly strong, or at least stronger. Picture ELK Studios applying some of the frantic dystopian energy from the Nitropolis series to a Squid Game slot, or Nolimit City taking the licence and pushing it into genuinely shocking territory. After all, the TV series scored high on the shock scale, whereas Squid Game One Lucky Day feels comparatively restrained.
That said, Light & Wonder deserves credit for packing in plenty of references. Some come through the sound and visuals, and others arrive via the bonus rounds that tie directly into the show. You’ll want to reach those bonuses as often as you can, since the base game is fairly underwhelming. Consider it the quieter stretch if you’re planning a longer session on Squid Game One Lucky Day. Alternatively, players can use the buy pass—at 50x the bet, it’s reasonably priced. In fact, it’s cheaper than many bonus buys available today. It’s a shame you can’t select the exact bonus you prefer, but that’s the trade-off.
Another positive is how Light & Wonder uses the TV show’s themes to dress up what could otherwise be fairly familiar mechanics. Instead of simply clicking icons to uncover modifiers, you choose left or right to cross a bridge and either earn them or not. With a 5,000x the bet max win on offer, there’s clear appeal here for the right type of player—especially fans of the series. Still, it’s hard to shake the feeling that in different hands, Squid Game One Lucky Day could have been a truly devilish, must-play slot rather than a good game that falls just short of great. Put it this way: if Squid Game One Lucky Day were a contestant in the show, you’d have to wonder whether it has the ruthless edge needed to survive to the end.
