There’s an extra layer of déjà vu as well: Alchemy Gaming had already put out another joker-themed X UP title, Joker X UP, before this release, though Sparkling Joker X UP is, at least, the shinier take. While Joker X UP leaned into a wacky joker character, Sparkling Joker X UP drops the cartoon style for a more nightclub-like, racier atmosphere. This time the lead is a female joker in a skin-tight outfit, a big multi-coloured ruff, and a dangling hat with ornaments on the tips. The game does deliver a decent amount of sparkle, but visually it isn’t among the most compelling X UP entries—partly because earlier X UP slots have looked particularly polished, and partly because there’s simply a lot of joker content out there already.

Running on a 5-reel, 4-row layout, Sparkling Joker X UP offers 1,024 ways to win, with wins needing to start from the leftmost reel. Volatility is very high, and the default RTP sits at 96.05%, though reduced versions exist. At the default return, the theoretical hit rate is 25.33%, and stakes range from 20 c to $/€50 per spin.

The reels are packed with glittering symbols. From low to high, there are 5 gems, 4 suit icons (clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades), then cards, dice, 7s, diamonds, and jokers as the paying symbols. Three different scatters appear in Sparkling Joker X UP – Red, Blue and Diamond scatters:

• Red scatters can land on all reels in the base game; on the leftmost and rightmost reels in free spins.
• Blue scatters show up on the leftmost and rightmost reels in the base game but are absent in free spins.
• Diamond scatters land on the leftmost and rightmost reels in both parts of the game.

Hitting 2 Red scatters awards 1 X UP token. Gathering X UP tokens unlocks higher free spins multiplier tiers along the X UP trail. When 2 Blue scatters land in the base game, they permanently increase one X UP multiplier level, beginning from the top of the X UP trail. Once the entire X UP trail has turned blue, any further 2 Blue scatters will double the top level multiplier to x25. Landing 2 Diamond scatters in the base game grants free spins with the highest currently available X UP multiplier.

Sparkling Joker X UP: Slot Verdict

If the X UP catalogue was already feeling a bit repetitive, this entry doesn’t do much to change that—it’s essentially a duplicate with a classic joker skin applied. That said, it’s not repetition in the sense of being poor. The features can combine effectively to create fun sequences, and they have enough going on to keep things lively in both the base game and the free spins round. Alchemy Gaming’s production values are typically strong too, and joker-themed slots come with built-in appeal, so Sparkling Joker X UP may well find an audience. Fair enough.

However, for anyone who has already played several X UP titles, Sparkling Joker X UP isn’t among the more thrilling additions. Jokers might be popular, but it’s hard for them to feel fresh—especially after so many similar games. If Alchemy Gaming had reworked the extras, adjusted them, or introduced something new, Sparkling Joker X UP could have made a bigger impact. Instead, it’s another familiar run with one of the most common themes around. The max win is 5,000x, which is modest compared to many other X UP slots. Chronicles of Olympus, for instance, offers 10 times that, partly because its multiplier can climb to x50, but even the original Africa X UP promoted a 30,000x maximum win (how achievable that is remains open to debate), and it also topped out at an x25 multiplier on its trail.

All in all, Sparkling Joker X UP ended up being one of the less rewarding X UP slots reviewed so far. With recycled features wrapped in a run-of-the-mill theme, it didn’t deliver much in the way of wish fulfilment, and the end result didn’t inspire much interest in revisiting Sparkling Joker X UP.
