Space Miners: Slot Overview

It’s a bit wild to remember that there are real people on earth seriously studying whether asteroid mining could actually work. Consider what that would involve: locating an asteroid, launching a rocket, setting up mining gear, pulling out valuable material, and then hauling it back to Terra to be used. Maybe even to build a new mall, or something equally mundane. Are we really so deep into draining earth’s resources that a mission this complicated could justify the expense? Probably not right now, since the concept isn’t exactly mainstream, but the fact it’s being explored says plenty.

That idea leads neatly into Space Miners (along with the jackpot edition Space Miners Dream Drop), an online video slot from Relax Gaming, the game studio now owned by Kindred. If humans aren’t rushing to mine in space, and our tech isn’t quite there yet, these quirky little Reactoonz-style characters are more than happy to go where no man has gone before – in search of minerals. Set on what appears to be an asteroid packed with mining machinery while chunks of rock and aliens drift past, the scene is easy on the eyes, made even more magical by swirling nebula gases as the universe slowly rotates through ruin and rebirth.

Space Miners is the kind of slot that throws out huge figures, and one of its biggest calling cards is the sheer number of ways to win. It starts out modestly enough: each paid spin begins with a 6×3 panel of active symbols offering 729 ways to win. But once you begin smashing away the surrounding blocker tiles and expanding the grid, the total can climb to as much as 1 million ways. Reaching that point is a highly volatile journey, though the bonus round gives you a boost because the grid doesn’t reset between spins like it does in the base game. With an RTP of 96.47%, Space Miners runs smoothly on any device and supports stakes from 10 p/c to $/€20 per spin.

The paytable is led by five alien symbols as the premium tiles, paying 0.6 to 5 times the stake for six of a kind. Below them are four crystal gem symbols, each awarding 0.4x the bet for six of a kind. A crate of crystals acts as the wild symbol, landing on any reel to replace regular pay symbols. When a wild appears, it expands to fill every active position on its reel.

Space Miners: Slot Features

As mentioned earlier, the core mission in Space Miners is to destroy blocker tiles, which opens up additional symbol positions and ramps up the ways to win. This objective becomes easier to achieve during free spins, which can be triggered in normal play or purchased where permitted.

Any time a winning combination lands, you receive a respin. On top of that, any blocker tile adjacent to a winning symbol is destroyed and removed for the respin, opening up more of the board. Once no fresh wins appear, the respins stop, and in the base game the grid drops back to its 6×3 size.

Power Up Features

Certain blockers contain power-up symbols. Breaking them releases the relevant power-up:

  • Cross – destroys all blockers in a vertical and horizontal line.
  • Horizontal – destroys all blockers in a horizontal line.
  • Vertical – destroys all blockers in a vertical line.
  • 3×3 – destroys all blockers in a 3×3 area.

Free Spins

When bonus symbols land in the base game, they are collected. Gathering 3 of them in a single game round awards 6 free spins, plus 2 extra spins for each additional scatter. During the bonus round, every bonus symbol that appears adds +1 free spin to what remains. The key difference in free spins (and it’s a meaningful one) is that once blockers are destroyed, they stay that way for the remainder of the feature. In other words, the grid does not reset between free spins.

Bonus Buy

Where allowed in your jurisdiction, players can jump straight into free spins by paying 100x their bet. Purchasing the bonus lifts the RTP to 97.14%.

Space Miners: Slot Verdict

Space Miners carries echoes of a few other titles, and part of the entertainment was spotting them. From the Reactoonz-like aliens to the presentation and mechanics reminiscent of games such as Cluster Tumble, TNT Tumble, and Cluster Slide, to name a handful. Still, Space Miners never came across as a stitched-together imitation; it felt more like a blended DNA shake that somehow turned into something genuinely fun on the other side.

The blocker-smashing mechanic might recall Cluster Tumble, yet in practice the two sit at very different extremes. Where Cluster Tumble could chain together enormous tumble sequences until time stopped mattering, Space Miners tends to hit in sharp bursts of intensity. Free spins, for instance, can rapidly chew through blockers, set off respins, and push toward ridiculous totals of win ways—or it can fizzle out almost immediately. You can also see hints of TNT Tumble, partly through the feature blockers, but with a quicker tempo. In TNT Tumble, you often had a moment to plan which feature blockers you wanted to target. In Space Miner, it’s more like being thrown into a race where you either fly or fall off the pace.

Across our strongest test sessions, three patterns showed up repeatedly. First was landing 8 free spins instead of 6—the two extra spins felt surprisingly impactful. Second was picking up as many extra spins as possible during the feature from stray scatters, while the third was expanding the grid to full size as fast as you could. Put those together and we were seeing wins above 3,000x, which can feel intense thanks to the enormous number of ways. Any future bonus round that reaches the win cap of 50,000x would be something to behold, and with Relax Gaming slots hitting their limits elsewhere, we’re watching to see if Space Miner eventually joins them.

Overall, Space Miners is another strong release from Relax Gaming. Visually it’s spot-on, and the gameplay mixes tease, frustration, excitement, and satisfaction in a way Relax consistently nails. Space Miners may absolutely test the patience of plenty of would-be off-world miners, but for the fortunate few, there’s real paydirt to be found.
