Snakebite: Slot Overview
If you don’t keep up with darts, the name Snakebite might not ring any bells. For fans, though, Snakebite is instantly recognisable as the nickname of Scottish professional darts player Peter Wright. At the time of writing, Peter Wright was the World Matchplay champion, ranked number 2 on the Order of Merit, and the winner of the 2020 PDC World Darts Championship. We can’t pretend we know the ins and outs of what all those accolades involve, but it’s obvious Snakebite knows his way around a dartboard. He’s also famous for his bold mohawks, with his hairdresser wife switching up the colour for each tournament. Maybe that’s part of the winning formula?
Whatever drives Snakebite’s results, developer Play’n GO has clearly taken notice, signing him up for a branded slot called, Snakebite. If you’ve ever watched darts crowds—or been in one—you’ll know the atmosphere can be intense. Snakebite the slot isn’t quite as wild, but it’s framed as though you’re in the audience at an event, with a 5-reel, 10-payline grid taking the spotlight. It’s a distinctive setup, packed with fluro lighting, raised hands, and a slightly punk vibe—largely thanks to Snakebite himself, who shows up on multiple symbols like the darts world’s rockstar.
Snakebite the slot runs on any device and offers stakes of 10 p/c to $/€100 per spin. Darts-loving gamblers are a fairly specific audience, so to widen the appeal within that group, Play’n GO has set volatility at medium. The RTP is 96.2% on the highest setting, but it’s variable—so it’s worth checking the paytable to confirm which version you’re playing.
Staying true to the player’s style, Snakebite uses vivid symbols made up of seven paying tiles, a wild, and a couple of special icons. The 10-A royals have a neo-Gothic look, followed by three dart flights featuring Snakebite’s face. Wins land when at least three matching symbols connect adjacently from the left on one of the ten paylines. Top-end five-of-a-kind hits pay 20 to 24 times the stake. Trophies act as wild symbols, appearing on all reels and substituting for standard pay icons. Wilds also pay from any position like a scatter, awarding 2, 10, or 200x the bet for 3, 4, or 5 on the screen.
Snakebite: Slot Features
That leaves two additional symbols, both responsible for triggering different outcomes. The Dartboard symbol can land on reels 1-4, while the Snakebite symbol appears on reel 5. If 2 or more Dartboards show up, but the Snakebite symbol does not hit at the same time, an instant prize worth 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 times the total bet is paid for each Dartboard in view.
If 2 or more Dartboards and the Snakebite symbol land, the Snake Spins feature begins. In this mode, you receive 3 spins on an expanded 5×5 side reel set. Any Dartboards that triggered the feature carry over into Snake Spins and turn into Instant Prize symbols.
While Snake Spins is active, only Instant Prizes, Snake Snap, Peter Pays, or Golden Dart symbols appear on the grid. Whenever any of these land, the remaining spins is set back to 3. In addition, when Instant Prizes, Snake Snap, or Peter Pays land during Snake Spins, they become locked to the reels. The round ends once all spins are used or every position is filled. Each symbol works as follows:
- Instant Prizes show a value of 1, 2, 5, or 10 times the total bet.
- Snake Snaps copy all Instant Prizes currently visible and then collect their values.
- Peter Pays adds a value of 1, 2, 5, or 10x the bet to the Instant Prizes.
- Golden Darts increase a win multiplier up to x10. When the feature ends, the accumulated winnings is multiplied by the win multiplier.
Snakebite: Slot Verdict
From the outside looking in, darts appears incredibly straightforward: throw sharp objects at a round segmented target and, if enough hit the right spots, you win. Of course, plenty of things look simple when reduced to basics. Tennis is just hitting a ball over a net, football is putting a ball into a net, boxing is hitting another person. In reality, the skill comes from years of practice—fine-tuning every detail so you can beat opponents who’ve trained just as hard, if not harder.
Even so, darts does have a clean, uncomplicated feel, and Play’n GO has matched that with a similarly no-frills slot for fans who also like a wager. The base game includes a classic scatter-style win element to add a bit of unpredictability. Beyond that, the biggest possible base-game hit from a full screen of the top dart symbol is a modest 240x the bet. Visually, it’s fairly minimal too, though it does capture some of the darts-event vibe—just with a noticeably calmer crowd.
“Straightforward” also fits Snakebite’s bonus round, which is essentially a simple hold ‘n win format. It can still become lively when Money Train-style collectors or payers appear, and the end-of-feature win multiplier can make a big difference to the final return. The top payout is capped at 6,000x the bet.
Darts slots are a niche category, and with not many alternatives out there, Snakebite doesn’t face much direct rivalry. Even so, it feels well-equipped to keep darts fans entertained, and bringing in one of the sport’s biggest names was a smart move. Snakebit the man is a larger-than-life personality, and that character comes through strongly in the presentation. That said, the game itself doesn’t bring much that’s truly new, leaning more on the branding than on standout mechanics.
And if you were curious: Wright’s nickname ‘Snakebite’ comes from the patterns his wife creates in his hair, not the drink—“I just like snakes,” he says.
