Sisters of the Sun: Slot Overview
In the Law of Polarity, everything is said to have an opposing counterpart—often summed up as yin and yang. The Kybalion expands on the idea, stating, ‘opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree, extremes meet, all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.’ That neatly sets the scene for Sisters of the Sun from Play’n GO, positioned as the yin to Moon Princess‘ yang. In practice, the pair share more in common than they differ, with the main changes coming from the theme and a few feature adjustments that have tripled the older title’s win potential.
If the moon’s counterpart is the sun, then Sisters of the Sun heads to one of the brightest settings imaginable: the scorching sands of Ancient Egypt. Here, the story centres on three daughters of the Sun God Ra—Sekhmet, Hathor, and Bastet. Action plays out on a 5×5 sized grid, where wins form when three or more matching symbols land next to each other horizontally or vertically. Egypt is a familiar slot backdrop, but Sisters of the Sun presents it in a less standard way. The Pyramids still feature, yet the scenery shifts between a blazing, canyon-like Mars vibe and a sky packed with clouds. It lacks the playful, cheesy anime energy of Moon Princess, but it’s still a striking addition to the grid slot category.
Alongside the visual overhaul, Play’n GO has also adjusted the math model, with the biggest shift being the game’s potential. The default RTP is a touch below Moon Princess at 96.2%, while volatility remains high at 8 out of 10. Note that RTP can vary by market, meaning it may be configured below the default. Available across most devices, the bet range runs from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin.
A look at the paytable shows seven paying symbols, plus a wild and a scatter. At the lower end you’ll find leaves, cats, jewellery, and snakes. The premium symbols are Bastet, Hathor, and Sekhmet, each paying 10 times the stake for five in a row. Premiums can also be mixed, awarding up to 5 times the stake for five if any combination of the characters connects.
Even higher value comes from the dual snaked wilds symbol, which pays 30x the bet for five of a kind. It’s also the top-paying tile and substitutes for all symbols except the scatter. Wilds only enter play via the cascading mechanic described below.
Sisters of the Sun: Slot Features
In broad terms, Sisters of the Sun offers a feature set reminiscent of Moon Princess. That said, it isn’t a straight copy, and the tweaks can produce far bigger outcomes. Whenever players hit a winning line, the matching symbols are removed from the grid, allowing the remaining tiles to fall and potentially create further wins. This cascading mechanism keeps going for as long as fresh wins continue to appear.
Each time a group of 3 symbols is removed, a wild symbol is inserted into the empty centre space. If the grid is cleared of symbols, a payout of 50x the bet is granted (except in the Sisterhood feature, explained below) and is multiplied by the current win multiplier.
With every spin, 5 random positions are highlighted using the Eye of Ra. If a win lands over an eye position, the win multiplier increases by one. In the base game, the win multiplier resets between each paid spin.
Then comes the Goddess Power feature, which triggers randomly on non-winning spins. The sister is displayed on screen determines which modifying power is used:
- Sekhmet – changes a group of one symbol type into a different symbol type.
- Hathor – places 1 or 2 wilds onto the grid.
- Bastet – eliminates two symbol types from the grid.
Watch for the glowing scroll symbol. This is the scatter, and landing just one activates the Sisterhood feature. You receive one free round and the win multiplier is reset. While the Sisterhood feature is active, a Goddess Power is granted on each non-winning symbol drop until all three goddesses have performed their modifier. On top of that, clearing the grid during this feature triggers free spins.
Before the bonus starts, players choose Sekhmet, Hathor, or Bastet to receive 4, 5, or 8 starting free spins, respectively. As with Moon Princess, fewer spins means higher risk and potentially bigger rewards, while more spins reduces the risk. The win multiplier carries over from the Sisterhood feature and does not reset until the feature ends. Also, extra Eyes of Ra are added to the grid, bringing the total to 10 are used. No matter which goddess is selected, her power is triggered on every non-winning spin. The scatter symbol can still land too, and hitting one during the Sekhmet, Hathor, or Bastet round awards +4, +3, or +2 free spins, up to a maximum of 150.
Sisters of the Sun: Slot Verdict
Much like the earlier game, Sisters of the Sun packs in plenty of moving parts, and it can become seriously frantic—especially with the newer adjustments. The changes make Sisters of the Sun a harsher, more volatile experience; some players will enjoy that extra edge, while others may lean toward the technically “softer” feel of Moon Princess, since the overall gameplay style is closely related.
One major hurdle is unlocking free spins. This time, it only happens by clearing the grid during the Sisterhood feature, whereas Moon Princess allowed it at any point. Clearing the grid outside Sisterhood does offer a fallback reward, but even that has been scaled down to 50x the bet from the 200x available for doing the same during Moon Princess‘ free spins.
Adjustments like these, along with the need to hit Eyes of Ra to build the multiplier, mean Sisters of the Sun can take longer to really get rolling. However, once momentum kicks in, it can surge ahead of Moon Princess and leave it behind. For example, the free spins total is far higher—150 instead of 20—and there’s also no mention of the win multiplier being capped at x20 as it was previously. Put together, these updates allow wins of up to 15,000 times their stake, which is triple the princesses.
Play’n GO has clearly pushed the risk/reward balance upward in Sisters of the Sun, but that doesn’t automatically make it a replacement for Moon Princess. The original combined wild, chaotic gameplay with an equally eccentric theme—Bandai, Moon Sailor, and shojo manga energy all at once. Sisters of the Sun arguably targets a different kind of player: someone happy to tackle a more demanding game for the chance at bigger returns—if it finally shifts out of second gear.
Don’t Miss
Play’n GO has also released a Christmas edition called Moon Princess Christmas Kingdom. Built on the original Moon Princess slot from 2017, it features potential wins of up to 15,000 times your stake.
