Siren Song: Slot Overview
The Sirens of Greek mythology were deadly beings said to entice sailors with irresistible singing, drawing ships onto the rocks of their island. In the best-known story, the Achaean traveller Odysseus had his crew bind him to the mast and plug their ears with beeswax so they could pass safely. Yggdrasil partner TrueLab Games clearly took inspiration from the legend, packing their slot Siren Song with these tempting figures, alongside three different free spins options, a pick’ n click bonus, and a Steering Wheel of Fortune.
While Sirens are usually imagined singing from the shoreline, Siren Song is set underwater in what appears to be chilly, murky depths. Since they’re often portrayed with mermaid-like tails, spending plenty of time in the sea isn’t a stretch. Play takes place on a transparent 5-reel grid with 25 fixed paylines for wins. A spooky, siren-like soundtrack is arguably the game’s biggest draw, lending mood to visuals that feel a bit flat, even with three enchantresses drifting around the scene.
At these ocean depths, wagering begins at 25 p/c and rise to $/€50 per spin. The documentation states volatility is generally high, though it changes depending on which of the three free spins modes is chosen. There may also be an option to purchase the bonus instead of triggering it, and doing so nudges the RTP up from the default 96.33% to 96.37%. Wins arrive at roughly 1 in 3 spins, paid when three or more matching tiles connect on a payline starting from reel one.
The symbol set features assorted sea debris, with scaly J-A royals acting as the low pays, followed by 4 glowing ocean objects as the mid-tier symbols. The only top-paying symbol is a barnacle-covered harp, awarding 60 times the stake for five of a kind. Rounding things out are 2 wilds: a Blackbeard-style pirate and a skeletal version. Both substitute for standard pay symbols to form wins and each pays the same as the highest symbol.
Siren Song: Slot Features
Siren Song includes three free spins bonus modes that players can pick between, activated when 3 pearl scatters symbols appear on reels 1, 3, and 5. Each selection awards 8 free spins, with each mode running on its own ruleset.
- Silver Free Spins are the highest-volatility choice. Here, the siren throws 4 to 20 purple fish symbols onto the reels every spin. If more than one fish lands in the same spot, multipliers are created: two fish gives x2, three fish produces x3, and so on. The fish aren’t wilds as you might assume; instead, they’re an upper-mid symbol that pays 30x the bet for five of a kind.
- The medium-volatility selection is Emerald Free Spins. In this feature, whenever skull wilds land, they turn sticky and remain locked in place for the rest of the bonus.
- Last is Crimson Free Spins, the lowest-volatility option and also the most involved. The first stage is 8 free spins where any key symbols that appear are collected. After the spins end, play shifts to a chest-filled screen where players open as many chests as the number of keys they’ve gathered. Chests can reveal bet multipliers from 1 to 500, prizes that increase a win multiplier, or extra keys. Picking continues until no keys remain.
Once any of the three bonuses concludes, players get to spin the Steering Wheel of Fortune. This offers one last opportunity to win an extra 5-100 times the stake, or to multiply the total free spins winnings by x2-x10.
If available, players may buy free spins for 127.6 times their total stake. After purchase, they can choose one of the three bonus games described above.
Siren Song: Slot Verdict
Unless you’re a full-on mythology devotee who feels compelled to try every slot even loosely tied to the classical world, you won’t need beeswax to steer clear of this Greek tragedy. TrueLab has several unusual titles in its catalogue, and Siren Song sits among the most peculiar. It carries an airy, otherworldly feel that some players might enjoy, but it’s also strange in a way that doesn’t quite come across as intriguingly mysterious or rebellious. Even the wording feels off at times, with reels occasionally called tapes, and wins expressed as “100 bets” rather than the familiar “100x the bet.” Either something didn’t translate cleanly, or it’s simply eccentric.
As for the features, oddly enough the low-volatility free spins option ended up being the most enjoyable of the three, largely because it ran longer and finished with a pick-me chest round. The upside is that the number of chests you’ll open is clearly determined by how many keys you collect. That means you can click away knowing there’s no sudden game-over symbol waiting to kill the momentum.
The remaining features didn’t really deliver much. A handful of semi-premium fish here, a couple of sticky wilds there, and then it was done, without much reason to come back. Silver Spins in particular can feel underwhelming, as the fish premiums either make a win or end up clogging the reels—plus they pay less than the harp symbols for some reason. Sticky wilds can be entertaining, but without multipliers there’s only so far they can take you.
Having options is usually a plus; still, if TrueLab had focused on building one standout feature, Siren Song could have landed better. Stronger upside at higher stakes would have helped too, since high rollers dropping €50 a spin only have 600x the bet as the top end to aim for. In the end, Siren Song is another odd entry in the TrueLab library. It’s certainly different—at least in atmosphere—but after a look, we weren’t especially eager to return.
