The features aren’t outright bad, but because this is essentially Tomb of Gold 2 in a new costume, there isn’t much that feels genuinely fresh or thrilling either. The shift from ancient Egypt to piracy is handled competently; the audiovisual presentation doesn’t raise major issues, though dialing back the generic pirate elements and leaning harder into the Klaus Störtebeker angle would have added more character. As it is, without Klaus’ name on the game sheet, the link would be easy to miss.

By the time the review wrapped up, Sails of Riches came across as a missed chance to turn a famous piece of German lore into something more distinctive. Even though the wheel, multiplier-based free spins, and a 10,000x max win give it a solid base, the absence of new ideas and the thin storytelling make it feel like another pirate slot in an already crowded category. It works well enough, but for a man said to have walked headless to save his crew, Klaus Störtebeker deserved a game that felt less like a reused template and more like a true upheaval on the high seas.
