Scatters can still appear while you’re in the feature, but only on the extra reels. Seeing three adds 4 more spins, and each additional scatter adds another 4 on top. So far, it’s all fairly familiar.

The real target is the game’s headline feature: the Heartstopper™ Enhanced Free Spins round. It delivers stronger potential, but the game makes you earn access. The end product is an easy-to-follow game that doesn’t really push the limits. Is that a small crack in the armour? Does it suggest Big Time Gaming isn’t quite as inventive as the reputation that made them a top-tier studio—or have competitors simply closed the gap?

Another potential drawback is just how hard it can be to reach the bonus features. The base game doesn’t offer much action, so Royal Mint leans heavily on its free spins—arguably making it even more volatile than Lil Devil. In testing, it took a huge investment of time and credits to see what the game could do. For instance, it took us 2 hours and 30 minutes to trigger the first bonus, and it didn’t arrive in the standard way—it only happened after collecting all 40 gold bars. Even worse, it paid only about 60x, so expect a rough session if you commit to it. Later bonuses tended to arrive much more often, thankfully, so that experience wasn’t typical. Still, anyone who disliked collection mechanics like those in Kingmaker probably won’t be thrilled to see them here. That said, the system fits Royal Mint better than it does in some other games, so it’s not necessarily a deal-breaker.

All that said, when Royal Mint Megaways really gets going in Enhanced Free Spins, the +2 multiplier steps are a great addition. Slots can be unpredictable, and this bonus round can produce serious payouts. At its peak, it feels like a full-on raid of the Royal Mint, with maximum potential around 40,000 times the stake.

So yes, Royal Mint is a quality slot—but does it reach “great” status? That will depend on how strongly it connects with players over time. It’s not BTG’s most daring or innovative release, proving that not every launch can be cutting-edge. Maybe the criticism is a touch harsh, but BTG’s own history sets the bar high. Their consistent quality invites heavier scrutiny, and it’s easy to feel slightly let down when a new title isn’t a total game changer.
