Rome The Conquerors: Slot Overview

Armenian studio Peter & Sons has been building a name for itself at speed. With Rome The Conquerors, the developer teamed up with Oryx Gaming as an exclusive platform partner to reach a wider audience. They’ve shown they’re a developer with real personality, and that comes through in their unmistakable style. There’s a certain feel that immediately signals P&S. As with their other releases, Rome The Conquerors looks fantastic, but does it bring the same level of originality to its gameplay and features?

If there’s one thing Peter & Sons can’t be accused of, it’s lacking ambition—something shared by both sides portrayed in Rome The Conquerors: the powerful Romans and the Germanic tribes. The year is 410AD, with the Goths led by King Alaric pushing into the Roman Empire. In August, they famously sacked Rome, much to the alarm of Emperor Honorius, who was actually safely stationed in Ravenna. Supposedly, he only relaxed once he learned the grim report was about the city of Rome, not his pet chicken, Roma. Who says the ruling class is always in touch with everyday people?

This is the ancient setting Rome The Conquerors drops you into. Rather than going for a gritty, realistic historical tone, Peter & Sons opts for a cartoon style that keeps things light. That upbeat feel is classic P&S—almost a signature at this point—and it would feel strange if one of their games didn’t have it. Beside the 5-reel, 1024 win ways setup stands a scruffy Roman soldier who looks like he’s seen better days. He’s not here for jokes, though, so don’t expect him to pop into the shrubbery like the cheeky character in Centurion Megaways. Other visual touches include marble columns knocked out of place after the sacking, but overall the scene isn’t overly cluttered. Strong, clean cartoon artwork and stern-looking characters fill the screen, backed by a soundtrack that’s fine, though not quite as catchy as earlier P&S titles.

Built with full optimisation, Rome The Conquerors plays smoothly on any device, and stakes can be set from 10 p/c to $/€50 per spin. Volatility is lower than what we’ve previously seen from the studio. Even so, a medium/high math model keeps things edgy, while hits are expected every 4 or 5 spins, or 22.15% of the time in theory. The RTP is also solid, delivering a theoretical return of 96.1%.

Because it pays all ways, the reel height doesn’t matter for wins. Land 3 or more matching symbols next to each other starting from the first reel, and it pays out. 10-A tiles cover the low-value wins, followed by higher-paying icons: a character with tied-back hair, a Gothic warrior, a Legionnaire, Alaric, and Emperor Honorius. The game is capable of respectable payouts, but not from basic line hits—five-of-a-kind premium symbol wins are only worth 1 to 3.5 times the stake. The Signum symbol acts as the wild, appearing on reels 2, 3, or 4 to replace any standard paying symbol. Wilds also add a random multiplier to the win.

Rome The Conquerors – free spins

Another familiar Peter & Sons hallmark is offering both free spins and super free spins. Rome The Conquerors includes the pair, and in each bonus the play area grows, while multiplier wilds can appear throughout all stages of the game.

Crossed sword symbols appear only on the first and last reels, and landing 2 on the screen activates the free spins feature. The round begins with 5 free spins on a 5×5 sized panel with 3,125 ways to win. Scatters are gathered whenever they land, and collecting enough pushes you through tiers—2, 3 or 4 scatters move you to tier 2, 3 or 4 respectively. The key advantage is that wild multipliers become stronger as tiers increase, up to x15 max. Each tier upgrade also retriggers the bonus, awarding 5 additional free spins.

Peter & Sons is well known for using progress bars, and Rome The Conquerors places one beneath the reels. After free spins have been played 5 times, the bar completes and unlocks super free spins. In this mode, the grid expands to 5×6 in size, providing 7,776 ways to win. Super free spins follow the same rules as the standard free spins round.

Rome The Conquerors: Slot Verdict

Peter & Sons keeps moving smoothly between themes while stamping each release with its own identity. Rome The Conquerors is undeniably easy to enjoy and has plenty going for it. On the downside, it’s difficult to ignore that the “newness” of the style feels just a touch less fresh. No criticism intended—it’s simply that this exact visual approach is now what we expect from Peter & Sons. The gameplay can feel a bit straightforward too, although the progress bar leading to super free spins is a nice extra if you manage to reach it. Even so, the game has charm and energy, and P&S still stands apart from most studios, so it’s hard to argue they lack originality or character.

Rome The Conquerors also offers real upside. The official game sheet states maximum wins of over 20,000x the stake, so there’s no question it can land huge results. As a side note, the maximum cash payout before the game stops is €400,000.

Overall, it’s another sharp-looking, well-crafted Peter & Sons slot with matching stats. As with other titles we’ve reviewed, it would be great to see the studio take the brakes off and push feature design further—being a little bolder could help them step beyond “rising star” territory into a bigger league. Still, what Rome The Conquerors delivers is a satisfying dose of Romanised gaming.
