Rising Royals : Overview
Just for the Win’s latest slot keeps up their habit of delivering stunning visuals that mask medium volatility paired with modest returns. Royal-themed slots appear now and then, but they’re not exactly everywhere. That leaves room for studios to make a real mark in a relatively thin niche. Rival titles include the LeoVegas original Royal Family from Yggdrasil and Play n’ GO’s Royal Masquerade. So, where does Rising Royals land in comparison?
The royal concept itself has plenty of potential thanks to the lavish, exaggerated imagery it can draw on. While Royal Masquerade leaned into the Italian upper classes, Rising Royals heads to 18th Century France. As history tells us, the French Aristocracy met a rather grim fate during the Revolution. The working classes, worn down by oppression from their so-called superiors, pushed back and reclaimed power amid bloodshed and executions. In its own way, Rising Royals captures that era’s mood surprisingly well. After a handful of spins, players may get a taste of what an exploited French labourer might have experienced.
The 18th-century elite lived in jaw-dropping luxury—levels of opulence that still impress today. The enormous palace on the loading screen is a perfect example of that excess. When the 5×3, 20-payline reel set, framed by glittering chandeliers, appears, it’s hard not to react. The visuals are classic Just for the Win: polished, bright, and packed with colour. Still, it’s worth not getting too distracted—there’s less depth here than the presentation suggests.
The first disappointment hits when you open the paytable. To begin with, the symbol set is small, and the payouts are underwhelming. The low-pay J – A symbols offer only 0.8x to 3x the stake. There are four higher-paying symbols: a curly-haired lesser noble, a duchess, a duke, and the game’s logo. These start at 1x and top out at 15 times your stake for five logo symbols. That’s hardly the kind of fortune you’d expect from a wealthy aristocratic crowd.
Wagers begin at 10 c/p and go up to $/€250 per spin. In return, you get a respectable RTP of 96.01% and medium volatility. The slot does pay out fairly often, but the wins tend to be annoyingly small—even when you manage to land a decent spread of the premium symbols. Normally, you’d expect extra features to step in and add some excitement, but unfortunately…
Rising Royals : Features

Rising Royals is unexpectedly short on features. There are two that operate together: a Respin feature that can also lead into a symbol upgrade. The mechanic works like this: when a winning combination of high-pay symbols appears, those symbols lock in place and a respin is triggered. If another high-pay combination lands, or additional symbols that extend the original combo show up, those lock as well. This continues until no more qualifying symbols land, or the reels fill up with locked symbols, at which point the win is paid.
On top of that, every time symbols lock, the chandelier meter beside the reels lights up. It has three segments, and once all three are lit, the locked symbols are Upgraded to the next highest symbol on the paytable. This can happen again too—fill the meter another time and the symbols upgrade once more to the next tier.
As a feature set, it functions smoothly. With a multiplier, or simply higher-paying symbols, it could have been genuinely strong. Instead, it can start to feel a bit samey, and the payouts don’t really justify sticking around. A slot doesn’t have to include a wild or scatter, and some games shine without them. But for Royals Rising, they would have been a welcome addition.
Rising Royals: Verdict
Yet again, Just for the Win has delivered a slot that looks great but doesn’t offer much excitement or value. It does make you wonder who the audience is. There must be plenty of players enjoying these releases to support the constant flow of them. Most likely, it’s casual players who prefer frequent, small wins that keep the balance moving.
Low symbol payouts aren’t automatically a problem—provided the features can leverage them into worthwhile wins. Unfortunately, that’s where this game falls short, and Rising Royal’s features don’t come close to creating much intensity. With a top prize of around 300 times your stake why bother? The respins/upgrade feature is fine, but the slot clearly needs more. Multipliers, free spins, or at least a wild could have added much-needed excitement. Then again, the French Aristocracy wasn’t famous for generosity—so let them eat cake, apparently. In that sense, you could argue Just for the Win has nailed the feel of 18th Century French Aristocracy.
Within the royal/aristocrat slot niche, Rising Royals doesn’t really keep pace with its rivals. Royal Masquerade, for instance, stays focused with a strong top prize and extreme volatility, along with far more extra features. In the end, if you’re looking to gamble in royal company, there are stronger choices available.
