Rich Geyser (Plank Gaming): Review

Microgaming’s latest ally, Plank Gaming, returns with its second proper release (or third if you include Puffer Goes Wild, which doesn’t appear to be available anywhere) called Rich Geyser. Their debut, Neptune Rising, was fairly decent and earned a respectable 60% in our review—especially when you compare it to the amount of rubbish many other Microgaming partners have been putting out. We still don’t have much information about this small developer beyond the fact that it’s based in Malta and seems to include people with experience from Quickspin.

Running on Microgaming and launched via the Quickfire platform, Rich Geyser makes a pretty plain first impression. That simplicity applies both to the visuals and the gameplay. It uses a traditional layout of 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 fixed paylines, with stakes ranging from 20 cents and 100 Euros per spin on all supported devices. Feature-wise, there isn’t much to explore. You don’t even get free spins. At heart, Rich Geyser revolves around the Gushing Wilds Respin feature, where wilds keep awarding respins until they drop out of view.

The oil-field setting is at least a change of pace, so credit to Plank Gaming for not serving up yet another ancient China, Egypt, or Indiana Jones-style theme. Visually, though, it feels quite old-fashioned and, sadly, about as thrilling as a gas bill—although, as we’ve learned, appearance is rarely the main factor with slots. We also got a chuckle out of the name, which seems intended as a play on “rich geezer.” That said, the word they likely wanted was “gusher,” not “geyser”—unless there’s some secret level where the oil man pivots to geology and starts chasing hot springs around Iceland.

A quick look at the paytable doesn’t reveal anything special. You’ve got the low-value J, Q, K and A royals, plus higher-paying stock reports, oil barrels, and the rich geezer himself, who doesn’t look overly concerned about smoking on an oil field. Hit 5 of him and you’ll receive 100 times your total stake. Since there’s no free spins feature, there are no scatter symbols to hunt. Instead, the wild is the key symbol here. It can land on all reels and pays 250 times your stake for 5 of a kind. Every symbol, including the wild, appears fully stacked on the reels.

Rich Geyser (Plank Gaming): Features

Free spins feature

The sole feature triggers when you land 2 or more wild symbols anywhere on the reels. Called the Gushing Wilds Respin feature, the wilds shift down 1 position with each respin until every wild has dropped out of view. In theory, it should be possible to hit a full screen of wilds worth 2500 times your stake, though we’re not convinced this is realistically attainable. Unfortunately, with Microgaming, they tend to be far more tight-lipped than most other providers, so we rarely—if ever—get access to hit frequency, bonus frequency, max win potential, or even volatility.

Rich Geyser (Plank Gaming): Verdict

There’s a fundamental issue with the core idea behind Rich Geyser. The way it’s been delivered leaves a lot to be desired, and it’s genuinely surprising how little effort seems to have gone into the audiovisual presentation and, even more so, the gameplay itself. It’s overly simple, lacks inspiration, and is frankly dull, making it difficult to imagine many players returning for another go. Even low-paying slots often compensate with creative features and lively animations—but you get neither here.

The one real advantage Rich Geyser offers is its unusually high 97.36% RTP , which could make it useful when you’re trying to clear wagering. Beyond that, there’s very little on offer.
