Raptor 2: Slot Overview

One of the strongest tools a slot can offer is the power to multiply the value of winning symbols on the reels. That’s why multipliers are so widely used, with studios continually finding fresh ways to build them into gameplay. Among the most intense implementations—both in look and feel—is Yggdrasil Gaming’s DoubleMax concept. This win multiplier literally doubles on avalanching wins, and it made a huge impact when it first appeared in 2021’s prehistoric-themed Raptor DoubleMax. Since then, the mechanic has shown up in titles from Yggdrasil Gaming, partners, and even rivals, yet very few have matched the original for pure entertainment. That may be about to be challenged by the follow-up, Raptor 2.

The sequel throws players back into a time when reptiles dominated the planet and humans were still far from the picture. The first game grabbed attention immediately with vivid, glowing visuals—packed with dangerous creatures and a thick, luminous jungle setting. Raptor 2 delivers a similar vibe, although once the gaming area expands, the symbols become smaller and a touch less striking. It’s hardly a drawback, though: the presentation is still polished, and it’s easy to slip into the fantasy of surviving the distant past while trying not to become dino dinner.

And just like the multiplier can climb, the gaming area in Raptor 2 can grow as well. It starts at 5×3 in size with 243 ways to win, and can expand to 5×7 during free spins, where the win ways surge to 16,807. A major talking point is the top RTP of 97%, which is rare these days—though there are also three lower RTP versions available, so it’s worth checking which one you’re playing. Volatility is high, and the stake range runs from $/€0.10 to $/€10 per spin.

On the reels you’ll find clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades, paying 0.3x to 0.4x their bet for 5 landing in a winning way. Above them are four premium dinosaur symbols, which pay from 1x to 3x the bet for 5 OAK. The wild symbol supports win-building by substituting for all paying symbols.

Raptor 2: Slot Features

The fearsome DoubleMax Multiplier returns, backed up by free spins with an expanding grid and a set of three feature buys.

DoubleMax Multiplier

Whenever a win lands, all winning symbols are removed, and a wild is added to one of the winning positions before the drop. Fresh symbols then fall into the cleared spaces, creating another opportunity to connect wins. With each avalanche win, the DoubleMax Multiplier doubles the DoubleMax Multiplier. In the base game, DoubleMax starts at x1, and the multiplier resets after a losing avalanche or spin. In the bonus round, it begins at x1 but does not reset for the entire feature. The max multiplier is x2,048.

Free Spins

Hitting 3 scatters in the base game awards 5 free spins on a 5×3 grid, 4 scatters grant 15 free spins on a 5×5 grid, and 5 scatters deliver 15 free spins on a 5×7 grid. Scatter wins are not multiplied by DoubleMax. During the feature, landing 3+ scatters activates the Reel Expansion feature. If the grid has fewer than 7 rows, then +2 additional rows are added each time it triggers, up to 5×7. If 5 scatters appear, you gain +1 free spin along with any Reel Expansion. After any scatter payout is awarded, the scatters are removed and an avalanche follows, but they do not double the multiplier or place a wild in the winning position.

Feature Buy

Raptor 2 includes 3 feature buys. Spending 80x, 240x, or 880x the bet starts the bonus round with 3, 4, or 5 scatters.

Raptor 2: Slot Verdict

There’s a reason people say the original is hard to top, and Raptor DoubleMax still holds up well years later. Raptor 2 aims to take the crown, but the attempt comes with a few doubts. For example, some players may see the introduction of an RTP range as a negative, and encountering the 94% version (or lower) could make people hesitate when choosing which Raptor title to play. On the other hand, a 97% option is extremely rare today—if you can access it, it’s a big plus. Also, some may stick with the earlier Raptor game because Raptor 2’s win potential is less than half of the original’s. In a slot where the multiplier can theoretically reach x2,048, max win matters—especially with such a huge increase in possible winning ways. Put both releases side by side, and the first game still manages to stand its ground with respect.

Even so, Raptor 2 is a well-made slot. The visuals are attractive, and the prehistoric jungle backdrop still feels quietly threatening. More importantly, it carries that ever-doubling DoubleMax multiplier, and when the avalanches keep coming it can turn into a seriously hectic ride. But then, Raptor DoubleMax could do that too—so it’s really when Raptor 2’s grid expands in the bonus that it separates itself and becomes exciting on its own terms. The added grid space is a strong fit for a game that doubles its multiplier on every avalanche. Better still, expansion can happen even from the lowest bonus setup, so there’s no absolute need to purchase the two higher bonus rounds—although beginning with 15 free spins is a significant edge.

The slight letdown is that, despite all that extra space and all those extra ways to win, the max win feels modest at 9,493x the bet. Still, Raptor 2 is an enjoyable play; the expanding-grid approach works smoothly, but it could have delivered more punch, and it’s easy to imagine fans of the first game expecting a bigger leap.
