Ragnarok 40K: Slot Overview
Ragnarok, meaning ‘Doom of the Gods’ in Old Norse, refers to an apocalyptic showdown between monsters, gods, and giants. Slotmill has already taken players to the edge of the world’s fiery finale once, but the studio clearly decided the original Ragnarok didn’t go far enough. Enter Ragnarok 40K, a follow-up that keeps most of the first game’s building blocks, while adding quadruple the win potential, a brand-new Super Mode, and a seriously hefty bonus buy that demands a deep-pocketed commitment.
The name is new and the maximum win is higher, yet Slotmill has largely stuck with the same visual style. That’s not a drawback, as the original Ragnarok 40K was a striking Viking-themed slot packed with atmosphere and a touch of mysticism. There isn’t much on-screen combat, but the rugged, fjord-like setting feels perfectly suited to world-ending forces colliding. In short, the updates here are mainly mechanical rather than cosmetic.

Ragnarok 40K boosts the win potential, though the RTP has slipped slightly to 96.07%, while volatility remains high. This is a cluster pays title, so wins land on the 5×5 gaming grid when at least 5 matching symbols connect vertically and/or horizontally, and an Avalanche mechanic activates on every cluster win. Stakes run from 20 c to $/€60, and they rise by 50% when enabling the Xtra-Bet, which makes it 3 times more likely to trigger the free spins bonus. For faster sessions, players can also use Slotmill’s Burst Mode.
Looking at the paytable, there are 3 carved stone block low pays followed by 4 character symbols. A cluster of 5 matching symbols returns 0.15 to 0.4 times the bet, scaling up to the largest clusters of 12+ matching symbols, paying 5 to 12.5 times the bet. With the Avalanche mechanic, winning symbols disappear and new ones drop down to fill the empty spaces. The Avalanche sequence continues until no further win is formed.
Ragnarok 40K: Slot Features

Many of the previous game’s mechanics are back, including wild symbols, a progressive win multiplier, Loki’s Trick, giant symbols, free spins, and bonus buys. On top of that, Ragnarok 40K introduces a new Super Mode, which can appear randomly or be purchased.
Wild Symbol & Progressive Win Multiplier
Once winning symbols are removed, a wild symbol is placed into one of the spaces created by the Avalanche before the remaining symbols drop. Wilds substitute for all symbols except scatters. Every Avalanche win also doubles the win multiplier, which resets to x1 at the beginning of each base game spin.
Loki’s Trick & Giant Symbols
Loki’s Trick can activate at the start of a game round. If it triggers, the win multiplier is increased by a random number of steps. In addition, at the start of each new round, or after a round ends with no more wins available, giant symbols sized 2×2 or 3×3 may randomly appear on the grid. A 2×2 or 3×3 giant symbol is treated as 4 or 9 standard symbols, respectively.
Free Spins & Super Mode
Landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters in the base game awards 8, 10, or 12 free spins, respectively. The win multiplier begins the feature at x1 and does not reset until the round is finished. Scatter symbols do not appear on the grid during free spins. The Super Mode can be enabled at random when the free spins round begins. When it is active, the giant symbol feature is guaranteed to trigger on every spin.
Fast Track
Fast Track lets players purchase immediate entry to Ragnarok 40K’s features. Choices include one spin with Loki’s Trick guaranteed for 25x the bet, or 100x to buy the bonus round, 400x to buy free spins triggered by 5 scatters, 1,000x to buy the Super Mode Super Bonus or a 350x Gamble feature. The Gamble feature offers a 25% chance to land 5 scatters, a 25% chance to land 5 scatters with Super Mode activated, and 50% to win nothing.

Ragnarok 40K: Slot Verdict
Because this is more of a rework than a true sequel, it’s fair not to expect huge evolutionary jumps from the earlier Ragnarok slot, and Ragnarok 40K certainly isn’t a Cambrian explosion. Instead, it feels like Slotmill—already known for listening to feedback—took player notes and checked off a few common requests. Near the top of most wish lists (for plenty of slots) is higher win potential, and Ragnarok 40K delivers that without hesitation. Where the original capped out at 10,000x, Ragnarok 40K, as the title implies, raises the ceiling to 40,000x. Anyone wanting a larger target definitely gets it here.
The other major addition is Super Mode. The appealing part is that players don’t need to take any special steps to activate it beyond landing the required scatters to start the bonus. Once you’re in, Super Mode might randomly kick in and ramp up the excitement. Slotmill also acknowledges that some players won’t want to wait for Super Mode to appear naturally, so for those willing to responsibly spend 1,000x, the studio has added the Super Mode Super Bonus buy—the largest feature buy Slotmill has offered so far—knocking Gold Betty Free Spins from Brew Brothers off the top spot.
Much of the time, it can be hard to separate the two games, as Ragnarok 40K runs with the same GigaBlox-meets-DoubleMax-meets-cluster-pays approach the original used. There are changes, of course, but they’re mainly refinements rather than major leaps, and in terms of fresh ideas, Ragnarok 40K doesn’t add a great deal. Even so, it still manages to shove the original Ragnarok aside if you’re after something bigger, tougher, and more aggressive.
