Raging Rhino Megaways: Review
If you had to list 10 of the most iconic slots ever made, Raging Rhino would almost certainly be included. After becoming hugely popular in land-based casinos, Raging Rhino arrived online in March 2014 and quickly won over both newcomers and long-time players, even building something of a cult following. It stayed in strong demand until roughly 2017, when it was switched from flash to html5. After that change, many players criticised clunky, slow-feeling gameplay, win counters that couldn’t be skipped, and other issues that made the experience feel tedious and frustrating.
Few classic titles have been as ripe for a Megaways refresh as Raging Rhino, and with little left to risk, this was a great chance to reintroduce it to a wider audience. Developed by SG Digital, it follows a traditional Megaways format similar to Bonanza with 6 reels and up to 117,649 win ways. Back on the African savannah, you’ll chase winning combinations on cascading reels that can trigger chain reactions for repeated payouts. During the Free Spins feature, you can play unlimited spins alongside rising win multipliers and Raging Rhino Wild Multipliers of up to 5x. Raging Rhino Megaways is available on all devices, including mobiles and tablets, with stakes ranging from 20 cents to 20€ per spin.
Visually, Raging Rhino Megaways sticks closely to the original, so it hardly needs additional explanation. The savannah backdrop remains, with gradient tones shifting from orange to blue. Symbols include low-value A to 9 royals plus the familiar set of wild animals: badgers, crocodiles, cheetahs, gorillas and rhinos. As expected, the rhino is the top payer, awarding 25 times your stake for 6 of a kind. The wild symbol, designed like a sunset, works as a standard wild by substituting for all symbols except the scatter, and in the base game it appears only on the top horizontal reel.
Raging Rhino Megaways: Features
As a Megaways slot, the number of paylines changes every spin because each reel can randomly show between 2 and 7 symbols. When the game hits its full configuration of 117,649 ways to win, sizeable payouts are possible even in the base game. Above the main reels, there’s also a horizontal reel with 4 positions that inserts extra symbols between the 2nd and 5th reels.
Raging Rhino MegaWays uses the Cascading Reels mechanic—symbols that form a winning combination vanish, creating space for new symbols to fall in from above. The sequence keeps going for as long as fresh wins continue to land.
The largest payouts are expected to come from the Free Spins feature. To trigger it, you must land 4 or more diamond scatters anywhere on the screen. You begin with 8 free spins, and if 3 or more diamond scatters appear during the bonus, it retriggers and adds another 8 spins to your total. Much like Bonanza, every winning cascade increases the win multiplier by 1, with no cap. The Raging Rhino Multiplier Wild feature also becomes active here. The wild, which can now land on reels 2 through to 5 as well as on the horizontal reel, may carry multipliers of 2x, 3x or 5x. Combined with the win multiplier, this can produce wins well beyond 10,000 times your total stake.
Lastly, the Bonus Guarantee feature ensures you won’t leave empty-handed. If the Free Spins round pays 10x or less, the game will guarantee a win equal to 10 times your stake.
Raging Rhino Megaways: Final Verdict
Adored by some and disliked by others, the original Raging Rhino is known for being highly volatile and punishing. In the Megaways edition, you should anticipate similarly tough swings and potentially even greater volatility. Still, the classic trade-off applies: more risk can mean more reward—and in Raging Rhino Megaways, the maximum win potential is far higher than in the original.
Unfortunately, the release feels a little behind the times. The Megaways implementation isn’t especially groundbreaking, and multiplier wilds aren’t exactly new, considering we’ve already seen them in Blueprint Gaming’s Primal Megaways. Even so, Raging Rhino Megaways remains a distinctive slot that plays unlike most others, and as such a well-known classic, it’s bound to attract plenty of attention and buzz.
