Raging Rex 2: Slot Overview

Dino fans, Rex has returned, and he’s angrier than ever in the sequel to Play’n GO’s hit slot Raging Rex. With Raging Rex 2, Play’n GO has sensibly held on to what made the original work, expanded on it, and noticeably boosted the game’s win potential. Expect rich prehistoric scenery, lots of roaming wilds, multiplier wilds, plus an additional free spins bonus option to choose from—bringing a much bigger upside overall.

Visually, the leap from the first game isn’t dramatic in terms of quality. The same punchy style is back, but the backdrop now leans more toward dense jungle than the earlier forest setting. The 6×4 game grid still feels packed with life, filled with intimidating creatures, while the amber insects from the first title have been swapped out for rock symbols. A fun touch is that Rex hasn’t been idle between games and now appears alongside a couple of hatchlings. “Cute” might be the wrong word, though—these aren’t gentle baby animals, but tiny predators shaped into efficient killing machines by millions of years of evolution. Definitely not the kind you’d want to pet.

What’s also gone big-time is the game’s potential, although the default RTP has dipped slightly to 96.2%. Somewhat unexpectedly, volatility has also eased off, with part two rated at 6 out of 10, placing it firmly in the medium bracket. Rex’s rampage is playable across devices, and stake sizes range from 10 p/c to $/€100 per spin.

With 4,096 ways to win, payouts land when three or more matching symbols connect from the leftmost reel. On the low end, there are 6 stone dino footprints paying 1-1.4x the bet for six of a kind, while the premium symbols are four dinosaurs: pachycephalosaurus, stegosaurus, brachiosaurus and ankylosaurus, which return 4 to 6 times the stake for a six-symbol way. Then there are the Rex and the Hatchlings wild symbols, appearing on reels 2-6 and substituting for everything except the scatter.

Raging Rex 2: Slot Features

Raging Rex 2 includes four bonus features: a walking wild respins mechanic and three different free spins bonuses that players can choose between.

Respins

If a Rex wild symbol lands fully visible, it activates the Respins feature. Rex becomes sticky and moves one reel to the left per respin. In addition, Hatchlings wilds are also sticky, meaning they can trail or lead Rex as it walks. Based on the reel where Rex first appears, this feature can grant up to 5 respins.

Free Spins

Free spins begin when at least 3 egg scatter symbols land on the reels. How many spins you receive depends on the selected bonus and the number of triggering scatters. No matter which free spins option is chosen, hitting 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters also pays an automatic 5x, 10x, 25, or 100x the total bet payout. Before the feature starts, players choose from three modes:

  • Primal Fury grants 8, 12, 16, or 20 free spins for 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters in view. Here, Rex is sticky and can move either left or right; however, the Hatchlings are not sticky, so they disappear on the next spin. Landing 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters in this feature adds 6, 9, 12, 15, or 18 extra free spins.
  • In Hatchling Mania, the Hatchlings are sticky and may move in any direction. Rex does not appear. Hatchlings can carry x2 or x3 multipliers, and these multiply together when they contribute to the same win. Landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters in the base game awards 7, 9, 11, or 13 free spins. During the bonus, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters retriggers 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 additional free spins.
  • Jurassic Mayhem begins with 5, 7, 9, or 11 free spins when triggered by 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters. In this mode, all wilds are sticky and can move in any direction throughout the feature. Landing 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters awards 2, 3, 4, 5, or 5 extra free spins.

Raging Rex 2: Slot Verdict

Looking around, we noticed a mix of elements: some clearly changed, some essentially untouched, and a few that somehow feel like both. The Hatchlings wild fits that last category. Rather than being a truly brand-new mechanic, they’re basically the non-stacked version of Rex from the first game—so not a huge innovation, even if they add personality. The dinosaur artwork also hasn’t shifted dramatically, though it’s different enough to give the impression you’re roaming a new region. It’s sort of fresh, but also familiar.

Still, that’s arguably nitpicking, because the part that matters—Raging Rex 2’s gameplay—holds up just as well as the original, and in key areas it’s even stronger. The standout addition is the new bonus option, Jurassic Mayhem, where a full sticky Rex/Hatchlings takeover can happen. That said, it’s tough to ignore Hatchling Mania, where enough x3 Hatchlings can build a huge 243x multiplier. That was notable in part 1, but it feels even bigger here because Play’n GO has widened the game’s win ceiling. Raging Rex 2 can now reach 30,000x the bet, up from the 5,000x cap in the first game—more than enough reason to pick this release over the earlier one.

Ultimately, some aspects of Raging Rex 2 go bigger while others pull back slightly compared to the original. The key takeaway is that the sequel is the more tempting option, and the major jump in win potential should easily outweigh any minor drawbacks elsewhere.
