Rad Maxx: Slot Overview
The name might sound like something a teenage would-be Chad would’ve called himself back in the 1980s, but Rad Maxx is in fact a neon-green, largely monochrome online slot from software provider Hacksaw Gaming. It brings Maxx and Ro$$—the bickering pair from Hacksaw’s 2023 hit RIP City—back onto the streets, only this time they’ve ditched the expanding wild symbols in favour of a curious system that can pay in any (or all) orthogonal directions. So if you’re thinking it’s “Time to f*nk things up,” then let the classic cat-and-mouse feud unfold across the reels in Rad Maxx.
Rad Maxx doesn’t exactly overload your eyes with colour—think of it like a printer that’s running out of ink. Still, that’s hardly a drawback, because Hacksaw Gaming has leaned into this style before and tends to do the monochrome/minimal-colour vibe well—Slayers INC, Chaos Crew 2, SixSixSix, and so on. The most obvious comparison is, naturally, RIP City, and beyond the shared look, both Ro$$ and Maxx return here too. Ro$$ is the cat, Maxx is the mouse, and while the visuals connect the two titles, the gameplay is a different beast, aiming to generate thrills through a more unusual ruleset. The soundtrack is a bit of a riot as well.

Although Rad Maxx runs on a standard 5×5 gaming grid, the way it can assess winning combinations is far from typical. Alongside paying left to right, it may also pay right to left, up to down, and down to up—depending on which payways are shown by the 4 arrows beside the grid. More on that shortly. Beyond the multi-directional setup, Rad Maxx is a medium-high (4 out of 5 rated) volatility slot, offering an RTP of 96.32% when staking 10 c to $/€100 per spin. Alternative, lower-return versions exist, and the RTP may shift when features are purchased.
Grey 10 through Ace card ranks make up the low-paying symbols, while an apple core, a pizza slice, fish bones, and a mouse sit at the top end. Royal 5 OAK wins return 2 times the bet, while landing 5 matching high pays awards 5 to 10 times their bet. All wild variants replace any standard paying symbol and pay 10x for a 5-of-a-kind.
Rad Maxx: Slot Features

If you’re prone to motion sickness, brace yourself—Rad Maxx can reward wins in all 4 cardinal directions rather than only left to right, thanks to its Pay Direction Arrows and Wild Plus symbols. On top of that, there are multiplying Cat symbols, three different bonus rounds, and bonus buy options.
Crazy Cat Symbols
Crazy Cat symbols act as wild multipliers with values ranging from x2 to x20, boosting the payout of any win they help form. When multiple Crazy Cat symbols appear in the same winning combination, their values are multiplied together first, then applied to the win.
Pay Direction Arrows and Wild Plus Symbols
4 Pay Direction Arrows sit outside the grid. These arrows show the direction used to calculate winning paylines. The left Pay Direction Arrow is the default and remains active at all times. The remaining arrows are switched on by landing a Wild Plus symbol, which triggers before any wins are paid, activating 1 to 3 additional payline directions. Pay Direction Arrows reset at the start of the next spin.
Mad Maxx Bonus Game
Hitting 3 FS scatters in the base game launches this feature with 10 free spins. It follows the same rules as the base game but with an increased chance of landing Wild Plus symbols. Additionally, any Crazy Cat symbols that appear stick on the grid until the bonus ends. Across all bonus versions, landing 2 or 3 FS scatters awards +2 or +4 free spins, respectively.
Maxximice Bonus Game
Landing 4 FS scatters in the base game triggers this bonus round with 10 free spins. Maxximice mirrors Mad Maxx, with the extra perk that a Wild Plus symbol is guaranteed on each spin.
To The Maxx Bonus Game
Landing 5 FS scatters in the base game activates To The Maxx with 10 free spins. Mad Maxx mechanics remain in place, and all Pay Direction Arrows stay active for the entire bonus.
Bonus Buys
Players can use BonusHunt FeatureSpins at 3x per spin to make it 5 times more likely to trigger a bonus game. Feline Frenzy FeatureSpins are priced at 50x the bet and ensure at least 1 Wild Plus symbol and 3 Crazy Cat symbols land. The lower 2 bonus rounds can also be purchased—Mad Maxx for 100x or Maxximice for 200x.

Rad Maxx: Slot Verdict
Much like a Berlin fetish club, Rad Maxx is a slot that happily swings in unconventional directions, refusing to be limited to a single pay path. You could argue Hacksaw Gaming has flirted with a related concept before through the RotoGrid feature in Strength of Hercules and Twisted Lab. A rotating grid isn’t the same as a fixed grid that can pay north, south, east, and west, but those earlier ideas may well have been the spark that eventually became Rad Maxx. It’s also a very different experience from RIP City, though one shared element is the presence of multiplying wild symbols. They’re valuable on their own, and the fact that Crazy Cats multiply each other when more than one lands in the same win is an added advantage.
As is often the case, the bonus rounds improve as more scatters are used to trigger them, and the guaranteed Wild Plus symbols are the extra incentive for reaching—or buying—the Maxximice bonus. To The Maxx is potentially so strong that it isn’t available from the bonus buy menu (similar to Le Bandit or Reign of Rome), since it pays in every direction all the time. Imagining a board sprinkled with sticky Crazy Cat wild multipliers while wins can form in any direction is, admittedly, quite the prospect. It stands to reason that To The Maxx would be the best place to chase the game’s 12,500x the bet win cap, though it’s technically achievable in any mode. One point worth noting: during the review, getting beyond 2 pay directions felt difficult, and building momentum in the entry-level bonus round could be tricky as well.
Either way you look at it, Rad Maxx is a smart release from Hacksaw Gaming. Between the personality of its characters, the engaging minimalist backdrop, and a feature set that feels distinct, it’s a slot that’s well worth taking for a spin to see what it can do.
