Professor Clank’s Combinator: Slot Overview
It looks like Australian developer ReelPlay has eased off flooding the scene with Infinity Reels slots for a moment, choosing instead to focus on ideas such as their 10K Ways mechanic and other fresh concepts. One of those new releases rolling off the ReelPlay line is Professor Clank’s Combinator. It’s a science-fuelled burst of visuals, audio, and lively characters, backed up by features including Explosions, Morphs, Boosters, and a distinctive Bonus Respins round.
Forgive the assumption, but a name like Professor Clank instantly suggests madcap experiments and chaotic inventions. ReelPlay clearly thought along the same lines, building a Steampunk-esque workshop crammed with brass contraptions and curious machinery. With a visual polish reminiscent of Money Mariachi, Professor Clank’s Combinator is a bright, energetic slot where the lab crackles, bounces, and whirs in sync with what’s happening on the reels. The mechanical chaos lands well, giving Professor Clank’s Combinator a playful Machinarium, Bioshock Infinite vibe that made it enjoyable to review.
The whirring action plays out on a starting 6-reel, 3-row grid offering up to 707 ways to win. Available across devices, entry into Clank’s experiment begins at 0.25 p/c before rising to $/€25 per spin. Wins land roughly once every four spins in this low volatile slot, which carries a theoretical return of 96.01%.
Professor Clank’s Combinator’s paytable opens with riveted, steel-style card royals (9-A), returning 0.5 to 1.2 times the stake for six of a kind, followed by higher-value spanners, goggles, blasters, and robots paying 2-10x the bet for six of a kind. The Professor wild symbol shows up on reels 2, 3, 4, or 5 and substitutes for all symbols except the scatter.
Professor Clank’s Combinator: Slot Features
The key objective in Professor Clank’s Combinator is reaching the Bonus Respin feature, but along the route players also get Explosions, Morphs, Boosters, and Drops, all of which link together. Here’s how they work.
Explosions, Morphs, Boosters & Drops
Whenever a winning combination lands, all non-winning symbols, excluding scatters, are removed from the reels. The remaining symbols then fall into the lowest available positions on their reels. Once explosions finish, if more than one symbol type is left, they morph into the highest paying symbol present. After Explosions and Morphs, if any previously winning symbol is no longer sitting in a winning spot, extra matching symbols are added to one or more neighbouring reels to turn it back into a winner.
After Explosions, Morphs, or Boosters take place, a new symbol drops onto the top of each column that is less than 5 symbols high. Any dropped symbol that increases the win stays, while the others (except scatters) explode. If the new symbol win value is higher than it was prior to the Drop, an additional Drop is activated. Once no further Drops happen, the concluding win amount is paid out.
Bonus Respins
Landing 5 or more scatter symbols unlocks the Bonus Respins round. All non-scatter symbols explode, drop to the bottom of the grid, and 3 respins are granted. On each respin, a new symbol is dropped onto every column that is less than five symbols high. Fresh scatter symbols are held, and they reset the spin count while non-scatter symbols explode. When respins are finished, each scatter on the screen awards a cash prize of 1-100x the bet or a bonus prize. Bonus prizes are named Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, worth 10x, 50x, 250x, or 2,000x the bet, respectively.
Gamble
After the bonus round concludes, players can choose to gamble the winning total. This is available up to three times by spinning a wheel split into green and black sections. You may select a multiplier from 1.25x to 10x and decide whether to risk half or the full win amount.
Buy Bonus
Where available, players can purchase the Bonus Respins feature for 50x the bet. Doing so initiates a spin in which at least five scatters appear.
Professor Clank’s Combinator: Slot Verdict
Professor Clank’s features can read a little complex on the page, but they’re easy enough once you’re playing. In the base game, it’s about landing winning combinations and then relying on extra matching symbols being added to push the payout higher. The bonus game follows a similar idea: land as many prize symbols as you can before the spins end and take the rewards. Or you can gamble them for a shot at a bigger return. That said, unlike the gamble mechanics ReelPlay has used in titles such as Bananaz 10K Ways, a failed attempt here wipes out the entire win rather than dropping you down a step on a multiplier trail.
In fairness, the slightly tangled paytable explanations actually fit Professor Clanks’ Combinator’s detailed Steampunk lab-and-scientist setup. Theme-wise, ReelPlay has nailed it, and the off-reel activity can be just as engaging as what’s happening on the grid. In one sense, winning potential in Professor Clank is fairly solid, with a win cap of 10,000x the bet in place. That limit applies to the gamble feature, though. Outside of that, the realistic maximum win is likely to be more modest.
Even so, the build-up nature of the Explosion/Morph/Drop system in the base game means respectable results are possible there too. Bonus Respins are also quite appealing, taking a streak respin foundation and adding a new stacking-style twist. The low volatility may put some players off, and overall, Professor Clank’s Combinator delivers plenty of smoke and spectacle, but it doesn’t really feel like a top-tier powerhouse.
That probably won’t bother players who are mainly drawn in by Professor Clank’s Combinator’s strong presentation, as ReelPlay has executed the quirky, playful scientist angle very well. The respins also carry a similar vibe to Nunchucks Chicken‘s bonus round, so it may suit players who enjoy a Tetris-like flavour while gambling online.
