Prism of Gems: Slot Overview
Developer Play’n GO keeps its love affair with glittering themes going in Prism of Gems, another entry in its ever-growing precious stones series. As with earlier titles, Prism of Gems relies on splitting symbols to enlarge the reels and increase the number of ways, while simultaneously ramping up multipliers to enhance payouts. It shares clear DNA with Frozen Gems and Perfect Gems, but this time Play’n GO has pushed the win potential further, aiming to make Prism of Gems the most enticing instalment so far.
The earlier Gem games were enjoyable but not exactly visual showstoppers, and Prism of Gems follows the same path. The 5-reel layout is fairly straightforward, filled with standard card royals and gem symbols, although the backdrop does a nice job of setting the mood. With semi-circular Greco-Roman columns and an iron-and-glass dome filtering in light, it gives off a museum-like vibe. Not a headline venue like the Louvre or the British Museum, but more like a refined hidden gem of a building you’d stumble across in a travel guide that locals swear by. It may not display anything on the level of the Rosetta Stone, yet its unusual collection still offers plenty of quirky surprises. In any case, it’s a comfortable setting and makes Prism of Gems feel noticeably warmer than Frozen Gems in almost every way.
Once again, the gem-spinning action is available on any device, with stakes ranging from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin. Prism of Gems is a highly volatile slot, officially scored at 9 out of 10, and it runs on a default RTP value of 96.24%. As usual, note that some versions may launch with a reduced RTP of 94.25%, or even lower, depending on the jurisdiction, so it’s worth checking.
Each paid spin begins with the reels set in a 3-4-4-4-3 configuration, and they can expand up to 3-7-7-7-3 thanks to the splitting symbol system explained below. The number of ways is also variable, opening at 576 and climbing to 3,087 at maximum expansion. In every grid setup, wins pay when 3 to 5 identical symbols land adjacent from the leftmost reel. The paytable is divided between low-value card ranks 9-A and higher-paying gem symbols. There are 4 of the premium gems, and landing 5 of them returns 1.4 to 3 times the stake. Add in the expanded ways plus strong multipliers, and those amounts can grow quickly.
Prism of Gems: Slot Features

At the heart of these gem-inspired slots is a cascade system, which works alongside splitting symbols and multipliers. Any winning result activates the cascade mechanic, clearing the winning symbols from the grid so the remaining ones can fall into place and refill the empty spaces. Cascades continue until no further wins are created.
The top row across reels 2-4 is known as the multiplier reel, and each position on it carries a multiplier that begins at x1. Whenever the linked reel produces a cascade, the multiplier increases by +1 up to x7. Any win that includes symbols appearing on the top row is boosted by the multiplier, which can stack up to x343. On top of that, if a symbol matches the one shown directly above it in the multiplier reel, it splits to expand the reel, reaching 2 up to 7 positions high at most. Also, wilds split all symbols beneath them, with the exception of scatters. Wilds substitute for any symbol except scatters, by the way.
Scatters can land on any row and trigger 10, 15, or 20 free spins when 3, 4, or 5 appear. Any active multipliers built in the base game are carried over into the bonus, where they continue increasing through the feature and do not reset between free spins. While free spins are running, every scatter adds +2 extra free spins.
Prism of Gems: Slot Verdict
Prism of Gems borrows the foundations of the previous two entries and then upgrades them into a stronger-performing slot. All of them have featured splitting symbols in one form or another, but Prism of Gems uses a more advanced multiplier setup than Perfect Gems. That earlier game raised its multiplier after cascades, something some players viewed as a nod to Bonanza‘s popularity. Here, the end product drops the kids-movie associations that clung to Frozen Gems while also separating itself further from Bonanza. Prism of Gems isn’t a fully independent creation so much as the next step in the series’ progression.
For whatever reason, Play’n GO’s gem line still hasn’t quite delivered a true knockout. If win potential was the main criticism, the studio has done plenty to weaken that point. Prism of Gems may have removed a reel compared to Perfect Gems, but it greatly boosts payout potential, with wins of up to 30,000 times the bet now on the table – a much bigger ceiling this time. Is that enough to offset the perceived weaknesses elsewhere? Possibly, especially for players focused primarily on chasing the largest possible hits. That said, it’s best not to fixate on PnG’s advertised max wins, as it appears extremely uncommon to land anything close in most of their slots—something that becomes clear if you follow big wins posted on social media.
Putting the dramatically higher max win aside, the rest of Prism of Gems largely sticks to familiar territory. Splitting symbols do widen the grid, though not as aggressively as PopWins titles if you want a modern comparison. So while it remains closely related to the two games before it, Prism of Gems leans on bigger quantities of almost everything to lift the series to a higher tier. Play’n GO has effectively thrown in the proverbial kitchen sink by massively increasing potential, which is a plus, even if the core gameplay feels broadly in line with what came earlier.
