Relax Gaming’s Powerspin didn’t exactly impress us at first glance, mainly because anyone with a bit of experience will recognise the setup immediately. After a handful of spins, that feeling was confirmed. Without spoiling too much, it leans heavily on familiar, classic ingredients, and to make matters worse, it even looks like they’ve taken a few cues from Red Tiger’s visual style.

So, straight to the point. Powerspin is a 3×3, 5 payline fruit slot with a sci‑fi vibe, supported by electronic music and futuristic visuals. It runs on desktop as well as Android and iOS, with stakes ranging from 10 cents up to 500€ per spin. There’s a Respin feature which isn’t particularly thrilling on its own, but it can lead into the Bonus Wheel where different modifier boosts can be awarded. Volatility is difficult to pin down, though it likely sits in the upper medium to high bracket, since the game often delivers stretches of dead spins before returning bigger portions via its features. Either way, the 96.84% RTP is strong and a touch higher than what’s common today, which helps offset some of Powerspin’s fairly bland character.

The game includes 7 symbols in total. Oddly enough, there are no wilds or other special symbols to take advantage of. From lowest to highest value, the reel symbols are cherries, lemons, bells, lucky sevens, diamonds, batteries and thunderbolts. The thunderbolt is the top payer, awarding 6 times your stake for 3 of a kind. Every symbol can appear fully stacked on the reels.

Any time you hit 2 complete reels showing the same symbol, the Respin feature is triggered. In the respin, the matching symbols stay locked in place while the remaining positions spin again. Returns from this feature are fairly average, with a max payout is 30 times your stake for a full screen of batteries (the thunderbolt symbols does not appear in the main game).

If you manage to land a full screen of identical symbols, the Bonus Wheel starts. The wheel contains 5 slices offering different rewards, either a symbol upgrade or added multipliers. When the red pointer lands on a number, that amount is added to your total multiplier, up to a cap of 10x. If it lands on the red slice, your symbol gets upgraded. The round ends when the pointer stops on a grey section or if you reach the max 300 times your stake win.

Like many Relax Gaming titles, it also includes the randomly triggered Jackpot Star game, where you have a chance to activate one of six fixed jackpots.

In our test session (demo play), we came close to the max win after trying a few spins at the top stake of 500€, which produced a 120,000.00 EUR payout. Even so, it didn’t really shift our view of the slot, which comes across as hastily put together and thoroughly generic in tone. There isn’t much depth here, and the situation is made worse by the painfully low payouts. On the upside, the RTP is high and the Bonus Wheel tends to show up quite often, but in the end it still doesn’t give us much reason to return for more.
