PopNoir: Slot Overview
Anyone keen to crack the city’s grimiest cases—or, at least in spirit, stir up a little trouble—may want to step into the monochrome underworld of AvatarUX’s online slot PopNoir. The game lives in a hazy noir setting of private eyes, troubled dames, Maltese Falcons, and the rest of the classic genre staples. It also leans on the studio’s fan-favourite PopWins mechanic, pairing its popping, expanding action with several other familiar features that have appeared across AvatarUX titles in different forms.
So, turn up your coat collar, because this one drops you into a polished, Art Deco, black-and-white cityscape of skyscrapers and sharp-tongued, debonair, moody characters. Everyone seems to have 17 layers of motives, and it’s never entirely clear who’s on which side or what they’re really after. That moral fog is a neat match for the noir palette—mostly black and white, though there’s plenty of grey in the scenery too. The reels themselves add splashes of colour, and the whole presentation is topped off with a smooth jazz soundtrack that seals the 1920s/1930s/1940s atmosphere.

Being a PopWins title, PopNoir uses an expanding grid throughout all stages of play. In the base game, each spin begins with 3 symbols on each of its 5 reels, creating 243 ways to win. Reels can grow to 6 rows in the base game, where 7,776 ways to win are in play, or up to 8 rows during free spins, increasing the total to 32,768 ways. PopNoir is a highly volatile slot with an RTP of 96.031%, and it supports stakes from 10 cents to $/€100.
To land a win, matching symbols must connect across 3 or more consecutive reels, starting either from the left edge of the grid or from the right. However, 5 OAK wins only pay one way. The low-value symbols are 10-A royals; mid-tier icons are a bottle and a gun; the high symbols are two character portraits; and the super high is a bird statue. A 5-of-a-kind win with low symbols returns 0.6x the bet, 5 mids pay 1-1.5x the bet, 5 highs award 1.5x the bet, and 5 super highs pay 3x the bet. PopNoir does not include wild symbols.
PopNoir: Slot Features

AvatarUX has borrowed and blended elements from earlier PopWins games to assemble PopNoir’s toolkit, which includes PopWins, a Base Game Unlock, free spins, a Rewards Reel, super high symbol upgrades, and bonus buys.
PopWins
Every symbol that forms part of a winning combination pops off the grid and is replaced by 2 symbols, which increases the height of the reel. This continues for as long as wins keep landing. In the base game, reels max out at 6 rows high. If all reels reach 6 rows in the base game, players receive 2 free spins plus a random multiplier.
Free Spins
Free spins mode is activated by landing at least 3 scatter symbols in the base game. While in free spins, reels can expand to 8 rows high, and once all reels reach that height, +2 free spins are added. Also, in free spins, expanded reels reset down to the shortest reel height between spins instead of resetting completely.
Rewards Reel
Before free spins begin, players are taken to a reward screen, where 4 rewards are randomly drawn based on how many scatters triggered the feature:
- Starting free spins – 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, or 11.
- Starting Rows (reel height) – 3, 4, 5, or 6.
- Starting Multiplier – x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, or x6.
- Multiplier Growth – +1, +2, +3, +4, or +5.
The more triggering scatters you land, the stronger the potential rewards can be. During free spins, the multiplier rises by the multiplier growth amount after every win, and it has no cap.
Bonus Collection & Gilded Super High
During free spins, scatter symbols are collected. Once 3 scatters have been collected, the super high symbol is upgraded into a gilded version that awards an uncapped multiplier. After that, the counter then resets to 0. Repeating this process—collecting 3 scatters again—upgrades the gilded symbol to even higher multipliers. The multiplier incremental values are x5 to x50.
Xpress Bonus Buy
PopNoir allows players to purchase free spins, free spins plus, free spins premium, or free spins max for 80x, 160x, 400x, or 800x the bet, respectively. The higher-priced bonus buy options improve the maximum possible Rewards Reel outcomes.

PopNoir: Slot Verdict
Overall, it’s decent. PopNoir checks the boxes you’d expect from a PopWins slot, without adding much on the gameplay front that hasn’t already shown up elsewhere in some variation. The super high symbol upgrade is a notable touch, though. While playing, it was hard not to think AvatarUX is still flooring the PopWins pedal, to the point where popping symbols have been paired with almost every feature combination imaginable. We’re not fully at “completely drained” territory yet, but PopNoir definitely nudged that line of thinking—which says plenty on its own.
For dedicated PopWins fans, PopNoir should feel instantly comfortable—in a good way if you can’t get enough, and less so if you were hoping for a bigger leap forward. It sits close to CritterPop and JinglePop, for instance. The noir theme helps make it more appealing, even if its visuals don’t quite hit the same level as MonkeyPop or PapayaPop. The 20,000x win cap is a plus, though it’s not exactly a standout headline number for a PopWins title. All in, PopNoir is an enjoyable slot, but it feels more like a transitional release than one that pushes the PopWins concept into truly uncharted territory.
