Gameburger gets to reuse a proven set of mechanics, while Microgaming supplies an old Playboy license. From the studios’ perspective, it’s a neat win-win.

But what about players? Is Playboy Fortunes actually worth playing, and does it live up to 9 Masks? That depends a lot on what you’re in the mood for. In some respects, it’s unapologetic branding—a fast reskin designed to ride on earlier success. If you can’t get past the objectification angle, or you’re put off by repetitive gameplay and limited potential, then Playboy Fortunes won’t feel particularly appealing.

Ultimately, adding Playboy bunnies is either a brilliant touch or a desperate one, depending on how you see it.

Most of the time, reality sits somewhere between the extremes, and that’s essentially where Playboy Fortunes lands—firmly average. It retains much of what players enjoyed in 9 Masks and 9 Pots: the high hit rate, the chance to land 2,000x at any moment, and a polished look. 9 Pots of Gold suffered from clear diminishing returns, but Playboy Fortunes nudges things back into the black—at least somewhat.

Even so, Playboy Fortunes lacks the innocent charm that 9 Masks had, and the bunny theme will irritate some players—in which case you’re better off sticking with the original. Overall, it comes across as a weaker slot than 9 Masks, though it could still deliver a few laughs if you liked what the first game brought to the table.
