Planet Fortune: Introduction

As it turned out, roughly a month ago we actually contacted Play’N Go and asked for a slot with sticky wilds. Since we’re big fans of that kind of mechanic, our point was simple: any top-tier slot provider should have at least one game built around sticky wilds.

We genuinely got excited when we read the info sheet saying; “During free spins, all wild symbols that appear will be “sticky” on the reels.” At that moment, the hype was real and we were ready to give it a proper test. Then we continued reading…”When the free spin starts, all wilds will remain on the reels but “walk” horizontally to the reel to the left. If the wild is on reel 1, it will walk off the reel and disappear.”

Play’n GO, how can that possibly be considered sticky wilds? That’s not sticky wilds at all—it’s “walking wilds”. Sticky wilds are meant to stay put, not vanish. Oh well…

Planet Fortune is what Play’n GO calls a “retro-futuristic” slot. The game runs on 5 reels, 4 rows with 40 fixed paylines. Bets range from 0.20 to 100 and the max win is 2500x. PnG lists Planet Fortune as high volatility, though that needs some context. It’s definitely not a Dead or Alive when you compare the two.

If you play the game at a casino operating under a Malta license, the RTP will be either 96.50% or 94.49%. With other licenses, the RTP can be significantly lower. If you’re unsure, look in the game’s help file. If the RTP isn’t shown, then you’re not playing on a Malta license.

There are 6 premium symbols, each appearing in stacks of 2, 3 or 4. The lower-value symbols aren’t stacked and come as A, K, Q, J and 10. The slot also features a wild symbol shown as a robot, and it substitutes for all other symbols.

Planet Fortune: Main Game & Free Spins

Compared to many recent PnG releases, Planet Fortune is simple and easy to pick up. It uses a traditional reel layout and avoids complicated combinations or mechanics that make things confusing. In the base game, you’re mainly aiming for two things: hit as many stacked premium reels as you can, and land 3 robot wilds to activate the free spins.

For a bit of extra movement, there’s a random feature called the Magnetic Mayhem. When it triggers, two or three reels connect using 2×2 or 3×3 sized symbols. Put differently, you won’t see fully stacked reels here. Sadly, wilds cannot land on the connected Mayhem reels.

Landing three or more robots anywhere awards 10 free spins, or Robot Revolution Free Spins, as PnG prefers to name it. Each time a wild lands during free spins, it remains visible, but shifts one position to the left on every spin. This mechanic is more commonly referred to as “walking wilds”. The free spins feature cannot be re-triggered.

Planet Fortune: Conclusion

Planet Fortune isn’t a groundbreaking release and it doesn’t bring anything fresh or inventive to the table. It’s the kind of slot many players will spin a few times after spotting it under new releases, but it will likely be forgotten before long. With so many slots coming out constantly, providers need something extra to win players over—whether that’s original features or, even better, massive potential. To be honest, this game delivers neither.
