Pirots 4: Slot Overview

Editor’s Note: This review has been updated to include Pirots 4 Inferno, the final expansion in the series. Set in a fiery new world, it introduces fresh mechanics such as Fire Minions, the Inferno coin game, and the chaotic Charlie feature.

Unless you’re among the tiny handful who truly know the behind-the-scenes origin story of a particular online slot, educated guesswork is usually all anyone has. With ELK Studios’ Pirots line, it’s easy to imagine the concept team blending Pac-Man-style “eat everything” vibes with the excitement (and risk) of online gambling. That mash-up first became Pirots (2023), and the sight of four birds munching their way through symbols proved popular enough for ELK to follow up with the dinosaur-flavoured Pirots 2, then ride into the Wild West for the huge hit Pirots 3. After the cluster-pays detour of Pirots X, Pirots 4 ditches the pull of our little blue planet for the near endlessness of space—while cramming a near endless list of features into the gameplay along the way.

Anyone who’s kept up with the Pirots series may be asking how the parrots managed to go from the Wild West to the outer-space setting of Pirots 4. Here’s the story: a space monster burst out of a black hole (yes, physics takes a back seat here) and stole the birds’ treasure. Rather than squawk about it, the crew dove into the vortex before it sealed shut, determined to track down their loot across the stars—and seemingly beyond. That’s why you’re now spinning alongside four parrots in space suits, surrounded by a space station, black holes, alien trouble, and the cold, dark emptiness of space.

Before the adorable birds start zipping around the grid hoovering up goodies, players need to pick a stake between 20 c to $/€100. The math model is set to highly volatile, and whether you play Pirots 4 with regular spins at 20 c to $/€100 per spin or jump into feature buys via the X-iter, the RTP stays fixed at 94%.

In the base game, symbols fall into a 6×6 grid while four birds roam around to collect gems matching their own colour, along with feature symbols. The birds keep moving until they aren’t able to collect anything else, and they can make multiple moves before the grid refills. Any collected symbols and triggered feature symbols are removed, then both birds and symbols drop down to fill the gaps. This loop continues for as long as at least one bird can still move. The four gem symbols pay 0.05x to 0.1x at level 1 or 7.5x to 30x at level 7. Wild symbols substitute for any gem at their current payout level.

Settle in—this is a hefty section covering the collection meter, Switcheroo, Power Clash, corner bombs, feature symbols, Lost In Space, Alien Invasion, Charlie’s second chance, free spins, super free spins, and X-iter feature buys.

Collection Meter

A collection meter tracks all gems and wild symbols gathered by the birds, except during Alien Invasion. Once the meter is full, it adds one pending feature symbol release. You can store up to 3 pending releases, and when awarded, they’re all granted at the same time.

Switcheroo and Power Clash

Two adjacent birds trigger a Switcheroo when they can’t collect any further symbols, or a space Switcheroo, which moves one bird to the edge of the grid or to the next symbol it can collect along its path. If 3 or more birds are adjacent and can’t collect anything else, Power Clash activates. During Power Clash, gems are removed in a 5×5 area around where the clash happens. The birds then fly away from the impact, collecting or activating any corner bombs, Alien Invasion, Black Holes, coins, or scatter/super scatters they pass through.

Corner Bombs

Bombs sit in each corner of the space station (the play area). Each one is assigned a random bird’s colour. If a bird collects a symbol positioned on a corner bomb of the same colour, the bomb activates and detonates once the birds can’t collect any more symbols. The blast removes all birds from the grid and removes all gems in a 3×3 area starting from that corner bomb. A detonated bomb also removes the connected space station, meaning it expands the game area up to 8×8.

The space station around the grid is split into four sections. When a section is removed by a corner bomb, a bird can move through the newly created tunnel if both the entrance and exit have collectable symbols. Each tunnel can reveal up to 2 collectable feature symbols. A space portal appears in a corner once the grid has expanded to full size and that corner’s space station section has been removed, letting birds teleport between corners whenever collectable symbols sit on two or more portals.

Feature Symbols

Feature symbol release happens before corner bombs detonate, as part of the first drop in free spins, or when birds can’t collect any more symbols. A feature symbol release converts random gems into random feature symbols:

  • Scatters.
  • Super scatters.
  • Wilds.
  • Coins – when a coin is collected it pays its value. The Max Win coin pays the remaining amount required to reach the max win.
  • Upgrade – increases gems matching the colour of the bird that collected it by 1 to 3 steps.
  • Upgrade All – boosts all four gem types by 1 to 3 steps.
  • Transform – changes a cluster of gems next to the bird into the same colour as the bird that collected the transform symbol. It may convert a random number of gems into feature symbols.
  • Spacecorn – when collected, places Spacecorn into empty grid positions, letting birds cross empty spaces one time each to reach symbols.
  • Black Hole – when collected, starts the Black Hole feature, absorbing symbols and up to three birds on the grid before throwing them back in a different order.
  • Alien Invasion – when collected, it stays pending and activates once birds can collect no more symbols.

Lost in Space

Clearing the whole grid of collectable symbols during the Spacecorn feature starts the Lost in Space coin game. It triggers instantly, keeping any already activated features in a pending state. Lost in Space runs on an 8×8 grid with a bird in each corner – 3 spins are awarded, and landing a new coin or bridge symbol resets the count. When the spins run out, the birds collect any horizontally or vertically adjacent coins they can reach, and the total is awarded. Bridges can be used to access collectable coins.

Alien Invasion

When this feature begins, the Space Bandit collects symbols one column at a time and space duels the birds. It can collect any symbol except Black Hole, Spacecorn, and transform symbols, which the Space Bandit discards. Corner bombs still activate if collected. If the Bandit wins a duel against a bird, the spaceship multiplier increases, that bird is removed, and the collection continues. If a bird wins the duel, the feature ends. If the Bandit beats all birds, it collects all remaining symbols, and the win is paid.

Charlie’s Extra Chance

When birds are unable to collect any more symbols, this feature can trigger activating 1 to 4 corner bombs, which causes a symbol drop.

Bonus Game

In the base game, having birds collect 3 scatters triggers 5 free spins, beginning at the grid’s current size. Every scatter collected during the bonus grants +1 free spin. Grid size, collection meter progress, and gem upgrades all remain persistent throughout the bonus. If one of the scatters is a super bonus symbol, the super bonus game is awarded instead; it plays on an 8×8 grid, and all upgrade symbols upgrade all gems. Any Alien Invasion, corner bombs, or feature symbols pending for release on the triggering spin are activated on the first free spin.

X-iter

The X-iter bonus buy menu includes Bonus Hunt at 3x the bet, making each spin quadruple the chance of triggering a bonus game. Alien Invasion can be purchased for 25x, Lost in Space for 50x, free spins cost 100x, and super free spins cost 500x.

Pirots 4: Froze Fury

Just a month after Pirots 4 launched, ELK Studios extended the series with Frozen Fury, shifting the adventure from outer space to an icy alien landscape. The standout change is the arrival of the Yeti, a fresh antagonist that fills a similar role to the Space Bandit but with added danger. In Yeti Snack Time, it can freeze birds, remove symbols, and double its multiplier with every hit, opening the door to bigger boosted wins. The Yeti also becomes the star of the Frozen Fury coin game, where birds collect coins while risking being frozen, and the Yeti multiplier applies to what they gather.

On top of that, Frozen Fury introduces extras such as Snowballs that can set off corner bombs, expanded use of space portals for bird teleportation, and the same grid-expanding mayhem players will recognise from Lost in Space. The core CollectR framework remains intact, but these additions make the action feel tighter and less predictable.

Pirots 4: Inferno

ELK Studios wrapped up the Pirots 4 story with Inferno, the final expansion that swaps frozen worlds and deep space for a scorching realm of fire and ruin. The CollectR foundation stays in place, but Inferno brings in several heat-fuelled changes. Fire Minions can set adjacent birds ablaze, launching them into a fire marathon that leaves trails of gems or coins, while the Charlie feature, activated by reaching the ominous “don’t press” button, ignites every bird on the grid to maximise the chaos.

Wiping the full grid during the Spacecorn feature opens the Inferno coin game, upping the tension with higher-risk, higher-reward moments. Familiar elements like the black hole are back too, but the new fire-led mechanics steer the gameplay toward a more volatile and unpredictable feel.

Pirots 4: Slot Verdict

ELK Studios has a long track record of enjoying sequels—Gold, Tropicool, Cygnus, and more—and a parrot-led grid-gobbling concept doesn’t reach a fourth instalment unless it’s clearly working. It’s five entries if you count the Pirots X oddity, although that one leaned on a cluster pays system for wins rather than CollectR, making it the outlier of the bunch. With Pirots 4, the series returns to its familiar strengths: birds chomping their way around the grid, now backed by a hefty stack of additional features.

Anyone who loved earlier Pirots games will recognise much of what Pirots 4 offers. At its core, it’s still about birds darting around, collecting gems, upgrading them, and setting off feature symbols. Players expecting a massive leap forward in innovation may come away slightly underwhelmed—especially since the headline features don’t evolve dramatically. Lost in Space is essentially a straightforward “hit coins and collect” sequence, while free spins mostly add persistence to the proceedings. That said, plenty of smaller refinements do enhance the flow, including corner bombs, the expanding grid sections/tunnels/portals, and Alien Invasion. One thing that’s stayed remarkably consistent across every Pirot slot so far is the win potential, and Pirots 4 keeps that tradition intact, with a top prize of 10,000x the bet.

Even if Pirots 4 isn’t the big evolutionary jump some players wanted, it’s difficult to criticise it for delivering exactly what it sets out to be. The presentation is polished, the execution feels slick and professional throughout, and watching the birds flap, collect, battle, and unleash a barrage of features remains as frantically entertaining as ever. Series fans should be happy with the result—and with the universe being a vast place, there’s no telling where these four feathered adventurers might end up next.
