Pirates 2: Munity: Overview
Pirates 2: Mutiny is Yggdrasil’s sequel to its earlier swashbuckling, feature-heavy slot Pirates: Smugglers Paradise, which launched a couple of years back. For this follow-up, Yggdrasil Gaming has brought back most of what worked in the original and given the whole package a serious refresh. Anyone familiar with the first game will quickly recognize the shared DNA, as many elements carry over. Even so, Mutiny feels like a step up, with noticeable improvements across the board.
From the outset, it’s clear Yggdrasil’s artists have tightened up the presentation in Pirates 2: Mutiny. The scene has more depth and finer detail, and the 5×5 grid sits between two shattered ships. Behind it lies a desert island with shark-like rock formations and threatening clouds in the distance. The time between releases hasn’t been huge, yet the visual boost is obvious. Like before, Pirates 2 is a 25 symbol grid slot that runs on a cluster pays mechanic rather than paylines. Winning clusters consist of 6 or more matching symbols and activate the Dropdown feature whenever they appear. Symbols can form part of a cluster as long as they connect horizontally or vertically.
The symbol set largely mirrors the original, though everything has been polished to look cleaner. Lower-value icons are the familiar card suits—diamonds, spades, hearts, and clubs—while mid-tier symbols include a hook, bottle, cutlass, and pistol. At the top end, the parrot is gone, replaced by a female pirate, alongside the green swab, a purple captain, and a red lady buccaneer. Payouts are worked out per symbol from six and up, with low pays beginning at 0.1x each and rising to x1 per symbol for the highest premium. As a result, a full screen of the top symbol pays 25x the stake at base value—before any multipliers are applied.
Before setting sail, players choose their stake, with spins available from 20 p/c up to $/€100 per spin. On the numbers side, the RTP has dipped slightly, but it still sits at a healthy 96.2%, so there’s no real cause for rebellion. As with the previous title, volatility is medium, and the hit rate is fairly strong at 21.4%, meaning a win is expected roughly once every five spins on average.
Pirates 2: Mutiny: Features

There’s a good selection of mechanics to cover, beginning with the Dropdown win system. Whenever a cluster of 6 or more symbols lands, those symbols fall to the bottom of the reels. All other non-winning symbol types are cleared away so new symbols can drop in. If fresh winning symbols appear, the sequence repeats. Dropdowns keep going until no additional wins are created or the grid fills up. Once that point is reached, the payout is awarded. Wins are based on the number of symbols collected, and if complete rows are filled with winning symbols, they add a multiplier to the total—filling 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 rows increases payouts by x1, x2, x3, x5, or x25 respectively.
In the base game, the multiplier returns to default after each spin. If 3 scatter symbols are uncovered during a Dropdown chain, players receive 7 Free Spins. When free spins begin, 1 high pay symbol is selected to replace all high pay symbols for the entire feature. The bonus round applies a multiplier to every win, starting at x1, and it does not reset. Here, whenever 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 rows are completed with winning symbols, they increase the multiplier by +1, +2, +3, +5 or +25 respectively.
Lastly, there are three quick fire modifiers included in the game as well:
- Mutiny – a big 3×3 symbol can randomly land to reveal 9 common symbols for a guaranteed win.
- Tsunami – this is triggered on a losing spin when there are at least 6 potential winning symbols in view. A wave sweeps in to remove everything except the wining symbols.
- Cannon Blast – this can appear on a losing spin and blows all the low pays symbols away creating a new dropdown.
Pirates 2: Mutiny: Verdict
Beyond simply upgrading the original, Pirates 2: Mutiny is also a genuinely entertaining slot. It isn’t one of those ultra-volatile monsters that promises life-changing hits, nor does it feel punishingly harsh in the way some math models can. Instead, it’s breezy, fun, and straightforward to enjoy. The base game rarely feels static thanks to the steady flow of Dropdowns and modifiers, and when the multipliers start stacking, the excitement ramps up nicely.
The max win isn’t the stuff of legend, but it’s still respectable at up 4,400 times the stake. That’s modest next to the biggest titles around, yet it fits the game’s tone well. This isn’t the kind of slot you play expecting to quit your job the next morning. On the other hand, if you don’t want to grind for a slim chance at a massive payday and would rather play something more relaxed, Pirates 2 is a strong option. The cartoon-style visuals are charming, and it doesn’t bury you under endless dead spins while waiting for a single do-or-die feature.
It’s easy enough to say Yggdrasil Gaming played it safe with the concept, but it’s hard to hold that against it. Pirates 2: Mutiny is well put together and simply enjoyable to play. It may not be aimed at hardcore thrill-seekers, but for lighter pirate-themed fun with a stack of clever features, Mutiny is well worth checking out.
