Pine of Plinko: Slot Overview

To borrow a line Forrest Gump might have delivered if he’d been into online gambling, ‘slots are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get.’ One moment we’re digging into the zombie end-times in Hacksaw Gaming’s Rotten, and the next we’re greeted by something irresistibly cute. That game is Pine of Plinko, created by software provider Print Studios in partnership with Relax Gaming. Compared with many Print Studios releases, Pine of Plinko keeps things straightforward and won’t exactly challenge your brain. Still, that simplicity only makes its appeal stronger, and it comes in two flavours: one tied to Relax Gaming’s Dream Drop progressive jackpot network, and another that skips the jackpot entirely—which is the version we spend more time on here.

Pine of Plinko plays out as a whimsical woodland tale centred on a cast of characters living inside a pinecone/cuckoo clock. In terms of theme and storytelling, it has a similar vibe to Royal Potato and is just as delightful to look at. The base game unfolds outside the pinecone, while the bonus action shifts indoors, where you can better see the clockwork workings. The whole presentation is wonderfully snug, and if any online slot deserves the label ‘hygge’, it’s this one.

That said, it’s still a Print Studios title, so don’t settle in too comfortably. The math model is highly volatile, and despite how lovable the characters are, they’re still at the mercy of that volatility. In terms of configuration, the action runs on a 5×3 matrix with 10 fixed paylines and a return to player of 96.48% (Dream Drop version is 93.48%). Whether you choose the jackpot or non-jackpot edition, the base game is largely about straightforward line wins, although a few symbols can pay well. Wins land when three to five matching symbols appear, starting from the first reel, left to right. The first three low-pay symbols are the green, purple, and orange pines, paying 2-3x the bet for five-of-a-kind. After that come Miney, Sleepy, Santa, and Piney, which pay 10-200x the bet for five of a kind. Finally, Pine of Plinko does not have a wild symbol.

Pine of Plinko: Slot Features

Pine of Plinko’s base game doesn’t include any features, modifiers, or added mechanics, so line hits are the main source of excitement there. That changes once the Plinko Bonus round is triggered (or purchased), or—if you’re on the Dream Drop edition—when the DD Plinko Bonus comes into play.

Plinko Bonus

Hitting 3 or more scatter symbols activates the Plinko Bonus round. Each scatter displays a number, and these values are added together. The resulting total becomes the number of starting drops you get in the Plinko Bonus. Every time players press the button to create a drop, one or more balls drop into the Plinko area and settle into a slot at the bottom. Each slot corresponds to a prize worth 0.1x to 1,000x the bet, and these prizes accumulate to form the final win.

At the centre of the board sit three bumpers. Each time a ball strikes a bumper, a meter is increased. Once the meter is filled, players receive +10 drops at the next level. As you advance through levels, the number of balls released per press of the drop button doubles. That means round 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 releases 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, or 256 balls per drop, respectively. When you run out of drops or stages, the game awards the total collected amount.

Feature Bet

Where it’s offered, the Feature Bet lets players enable a Scatter Boost or purchase the bonus round outright. Scatter Boost ups the stake by 75% while increasing the number of scatters on the reel. The RTP here is 96.78%. Buying the Plinko Bonus costs 79x the bet and carries an RTP of 96.94%.

Dream Drop

In the Dream Drop version of Pine of Plinko, landing 3 DD symbols triggers the Dream Drop Plinko Jackpot. When you press the Drop Button, a ball drops into one of five bottom gaps, filling the related meter. Once the meter is filled, the jackpot is awarded. The prize can be the Rapid, Midi, Maxi, Major, or Mega, with starting values of €1, €5, €100, €25,000, or €500,000. This edition has RTPs of 93.48% in standard play or 93.79% with Scatter Boost enabled. You cannot buy the Plinko Bonus on this one.

Pine of Plinko: Slot Verdict

The last Print Studios slot we covered was the brain-bending sci-fi spectacle Reapers. It was so layered it even included tutorial-style guidance explaining what was happening as you played. For an online slot, it was seriously intricate—the kind of game where you strap in, spin, and hope everything clicks eventually. Pine of Plinko sits at the other end of the spectrum. It’s about as simple as it gets, from the core set-up and rules to the bonus round itself. To complement that simplicity, Print Studios has built a wonderfully endearing world around it. Pine of Plinko genuinely felt like a slot-machine take on a cuckoo clock, where every piece has a purpose and each little action contributes to the whole. Not totally sure what that sentence is trying to say, but that’s the sweet, twee energy Pine of Plinko gave off during the review.

Even so, the stripped-back approach doesn’t reduce the fun—if anything, it enhances it. The replay value was huge, especially in the bonus game, for a variety of reasons. There’s something oddly uplifting about setting the Plinko balls loose, and it kept pulling us back in. The feel-good effect of watching balls ricochet around, smack bumpers, and prompt Piney to hammer the level-up button was so strong it actually produced a genuine laugh-out-loud moment. A nice touch is that you can hit play to release balls as quickly or as slowly as you want, shifting the pace from a trickle to a full-on avalanche. It’s entertaining—and it can pay, too, since non-jackpot wins can climb to 10,000x the bet. At times, it was so easy to get absorbed in the dropping process that the growing prize total almost became secondary.

It’s amusing: a slot with no added extras in the base game and a Plinko-style bonus might sound a bit flat on paper. In practice, Print Studios has poured care into almost every detail of Pine of Plinko, turning it into a genuinely enjoyable experience, with a bonus round that delivers seriously strong replay appeal.
