Pied Piper: Overview
In many ways it began with Sakura, a title that became a major hit for Quickspin and is often seen as one of their strongest releases. It wasn’t just a stunning game visually and mechanically—those huge Sakura Wild Reels really get the adrenaline going.
Until now, the only thing we really knew about this slot was its name, which during development was changed from Walking Piper, and, very much in line with Quickspin, it draws on a well-known old German fary tale. The Pied Piper of Hamelin is the central figure in a legend from the town of Hamelin, famously illustrated by Arthur Rackham in 1934. The story itself reaches back to the Middle Ages, with early references describing a piper in multicolored (“pied”) clothing who is hired as a rat-catcher to lead the rats away using a magic pipe. When the townspeople refuse to pay, he takes revenge by turning that same magical power on their children, leading them away just as he did the rats.
Pied Piper is a 5 reel, 4 row slot with 40 bet lines. It includes 5 premium symbols, with the King as the highest, paying 10 times the bet for 5 of a kind. The remaining 5 lower symbols are the familiar A, K, Q, J and 10. A Wild symbol also appears, substituting for every symbol except the Bonus symbol.
The Piper Wild symbol is a 4×1 stacked walking wild symbol and initiates the Piper Respins feature. The Piper Wild symbol is only present on reel 3, 4 and 5. It can appear both in the base game and during the bonus.
Pied Piper: Features
Whenever a Piper Wild symbol lands fully on the reels, in Base game or in Free Spins, it activates the Piper Respins feature. On each respin, the Piper Wild symbol—and any Mouse Wild symbol already on the reels—will move one reel to the left.
On the last spin of the Piper Respins feature, there is a possibility of a Mystery retrigger. If it happens, the Piper re-enters on the rightmost reel and awards 5 additional respins.
The bonus starts when 3 Bonus symbols land on reel 2, 3 and 4, awarding 10 Free Spins. During the bonus, between 1 and 6 guaranteed Mouse Wild symbols are randomly placed onto the reels on every spin. Combined with the chance for the Piper Wild to land, this creates solid win potential.
This slot sits in the upper medium volatiliy index with an RTP of 96.32%. Of the RTP, 27.27% is assigned to the Bonus, 30,38% to the Piper Respins, and 38,67% to the Base Game, making it a reasonably good option for wagering. Bets range from 0.20€ to 100€, and the probability of hitting a 100x win is 1 in 1302 spins.
Piped Piper: Conclusion
Quickspin is like a fine win that keeps improving over time. If they chose to put out a few high volatile slots, we’re confident they could match—or even outperform—most other slot providers. Regardless, they’re clearly moving in the right direction by testing different Wild mechanics, and they’ve begun to truly master them. The overall production value is consistently high, with visuals and audio that are excellent—arguably among the best in the industry, right up there with Yggdrasil.
Quickspins makes slot that appeals to everyone, whether you play small stakes or big stakes. Since this one leans a bit higher on the volatility scale, it could also fit well within the casino streaming community.
There’s very little we found to dislike, and we were genuinely impressed by the presentation and the smooth game play. We might have preferred slightly stronger potential and higher-paying symbols, but it’s important to keep in mind that this is a medium volatile slot.
