First is picking your stake, with options from 20 c to $/€50 per spin; second is whether to use the X-iter to access bonus modes or not. Either way, the RTP is 94%, and the volatility is high. Nitropolis 5’s grid setup is unusual as well. The default layout uses 6 reels with 4 symbols landing on each, which creates 4,096 ways to win. That said, the reels can expand up to 8 rows high, and Nitro Reels can contain up to 12 symbols each, massively boosting the number of ways to win. So much so that the game doesn’t state a maximum, though millions are possible. • Nitro Multiplier – A Nitro Multiplier is a blocker that appears inside a Nitro Reel and shows a value of x4, x6, x8, x10, or x12. It multiplies all wins in view and stacks multiplicatively if more than one is present on the reels. The Nitro Multiplier counts as one 1×1 symbol. Nitro Reels and Nitro Multipliers that are part of a win stay in place and respin during symbol refills.
• Avalanche – All regular symbols involved in a win (excluding NPD Holding Cell feature wins) explode from the reels, creating gaps for symbols to fall and refill. One extra row is added at the top, up to a maximum of 8. Nitro Reels and Nitro Multipliers that are part of a win respin. Avalanches keep going until no further win appears.
• NPD Holding Cell Feature – The NPD Holding Cell feature can trigger randomly on a spin, respin, or free spin. A symbol type is selected at random. If the selected symbols are part of a win, they remain locked on the reels, along with scatter symbols and Nitro Multipliers, for a respin that expands the main grid. This continues as long as more symbols of the chosen type add to the NPD Holding Cell winning combination or if another NPD Holding Cell feature triggers. Locked symbols pay out when the feature ends.

Nitro Booster

The Nitro Booster row is positioned above the main reels and consists of 3 flippers, which can award modifiers before the reels stop, after the reels stop, and after a win evaluation. There are 11 Nitro Booster features, with 6 targeting the main reels and 5 targeting the Nitro Reels.

• Dirty Dawgs – swaps some high-value symbols for the highest-value symbol.
• Pug Thugs – shifts a Nitro Reel to create or extend a win.
• Gritty Kitty – selects a random symbol for a scatter win evaluation.
• Rogue Rats – drops a random number of Nitro Reels onto the main grid.
• Nitro Wild – fills all Nitro Reels beneath it with wild symbols.
• Nitro Match – matches all Nitro Reels below it with a symbol on the same reel as the Nitro Reel or an adjacent reel in an attempt to form a win.
• Nitro Upgrade – raises the size indicator on all Nitro Reels below it.
• Max Rows – expands the grid to 8 rows high.
• Respin – grants a respin at the end of the game round where Nitro Reels, Nitro Multipliers, scatters, and wilds are sticky.
• Both Ways – evaluates wins from the leftmost and the rightmost reel.

Boss Battle

Hitting 3 Boss Battle coins in the Nitro Booster activates the Boss Battle at the end of the spin or free spin. The main reels and the Nitro Booster are replaced by a new 7×8 grid. Each spot on this grid is either blank or contains a coin or Max Win. Players receive 3 shots. Each time a coin is hit, its value is awarded, the position is cleared, and the shot count resets back to 3. The feature ends when there are no shots left, or when the Max Win is reached.

Nitropolis 5: Slot Verdict

Blimey, we expected part 5 to be a sizeable one, but that feature list still overshot what we had in mind. Several are returning favourites from earlier Nitropolis titles—Nitro Reels, Nitro Booster modifiers, and the like—alongside the familiar avalanche-style wins that expand the main play area, a hallmark ELK loves to use. It’s easy to see why the studio sticks with this framework, because when everything clicks, and it’s paired with head-banging audio, the experience can be seriously exhilarating. Add in Nitropolis 5’s newer elements while keeping in mind the storyline that’s led the series to this moment, and fans could be in for another high-octane nitro blast.o

There’s a ton here to dig into, or at least try to get through. To be fair, some of the newer pieces—like the NPD Holding Cell feature—aren’t entirely, entirely new, since this lock, build-a-win, and respin concept has shown up before, most notably in Nolimit City’s snuff film of a slot Serial. Other parts feel more original, such as the Boss Battle round – ‘To the chopper!’ Put it all together, then boost it with Nitro Reels, Nitro Multipliers, expanding reels, and adrenaline-spiking music, and you’ve got all the components of a truly exciting Nitropolis slot.

Speaking of potential, and not to sound too demanding, but a bigger max win could have really cemented Nitropolis 5 as a true heavyweight. That said, the 50,000x the bet top prize is huge on its own. It’s just that the same number appeared in Nitropolis 3 and 4, so something a bit larger—or much larger—would have added a serious exclamation point to the Battle of Nitropolis idea. Ah well, maybe in part 6, if it ever happens. Besides, Nitropolis slots have shown more than once that they can actually hit their max win.
