Nightmares VS GigaBlox: Slot Overview
For plenty of people, sleep sits near the top of their list of favourite pastimes—and it’s easy to see why. While we’re asleep, we get a break from deadlines, demanding customers, bills, and the countless everyday hassles that can weigh on us when we’re awake. In dreams, you might swashbuckle across the seven seas, drift through the cosmos, or star in a tale shaped only by your unconscious imagination. So it’s worth sparing a thought for anyone troubled by night terrors, for whom the idea of going to bed can trigger genuine dread. It’s that fear-and-dread vibe that software developer Hot Rise Games, alongside ReelPlay and Yggdrasil Gaming, aims to channel with Nightmares VS GigaBlox.
This isn’t the first time Hot Rise Games has taken a theme and pitted it against the Gigablox mechanic. In fact, it’s the third entry; the earlier titles were Monsters VS GigaBlox and Gods VS GigaBlox. Up to now, all three have been visually polished releases that share certain mechanics while also bringing their own gameplay twists. Living up to its title, Nightmare VS GigaBlox is the most spooky-looking of the bunch so far. Sure, it’s an online slot rather than a Freddie Krueger movie, so it’s unlikely to spark many real night terrors. Still, the eerie village setting and its monster residents are well illustrated, giving the game a pleasingly creepy edge.

Gigablox was created by Yggdrasil Gaming, though it has since spread to a range of partner studios to use in their own releases. In Nightmare VS GigaBlox, the mechanic plays out on a 6×6 gaming grid with 50 fixed paylines. Under the creepy façade, Nightmares VS GigaBlox uses a medium-high volatile math model and offers four RTP models depending on the setup. The top return is 96.1% or 96% when purchasing the bonus round, and both figures are clearly shown on the info screen. Bets begin at 50 p/c and goes up to $/€20 for players with deeper pockets.
To put coins back in your balance while playing Nightmares VS GigaBlox, you’ll need to hit matching symbols across at least 3 adjacent reels starting from the first reel. When 6 OAK wins land, they return 1.5x the bet with J to A card ranks, or 2.5 to 10 times the bet for the premium character symbols – Swamp Man, Dead Beard, Princess Cleo, Max Wolf, Adam Frankenstein, and Vamptress. Rounding out the paytable basics for now is the wild symbol, which can appear on every reel. Wilds replace any pay symbol and can deliver up to 50x the bet for a full line of 6 wilds.
Nightmares VS GigaBlox: Slot Features

If you’ve made it through the scares up to this point, it’s time to look at the features. This is where you’ll come across Gigablox, the VERSUS feature, and a bonus buy option.
Gigablox
Any symbol is able to appear as a Gigablox. Symbols merge to form blocks of symbols ranging from 2×2 to 6×6 in size.
VERSUS Feature
When 6 or more scatters appear anywhere on the screen, the VERSUS feature activates, starting by awarding 6 free spins. During the round, a Champion and a Challenger are randomly selected from the high-pay symbols. Whenever these symbols land in the feature, they are collected. As you build up collections, rewards are triggered at various set milestones. Gathering Champion and/or Challenger symbols can result in wilds, multipliers, extra free spins, and what the game calls major prizes.
Bonus Buy
If you’d rather have the Challenger and Champion start fighting immediately, you can purchase the VERSUS feature for 80 times the stake.

Nightmares VS GigaBlox: Slot Verdict
As the third title in the VS GigaBlox series, Hot Rise Games has streamlined the package compared to the previous entry we reviewed. The separate free spins round has been removed, leaving the VERSUS round as the only bonus feature to chase. The exact reason for that choice isn’t clear, but whatever the thinking was, VERSUS is the main event. It’s also quite close to the version seen in Gods VS GigaBlox, without any huge overhauls—though it is cheaper to buy than before, which may appeal to fans of the VS GigaBlox line.
Out of the three games in the series, Nightmares VS GigaBlox felt the least visually impactful. That’s subjective, of course, but bold, punchy presentation has been a standout trait of the previous two. Monsters VS GigaBlox featured gigantic creatures going head-to-head, while Gods VS GigaBlox showcased deities clashing, and both delivered that in a fun, larger-than-life, attention-grabbing style. Nightmares VS GigaBlox is still a good-looking slot, just not quite as striking as its predecessors—although players who enjoy horror themes may well disagree, and that’s fair enough.
That softer impact is reinforced by how Hot Rise Games has pared back the feature set. As a result, while Gods VS GigaBlox felt like it expanded on Monsters VS GigaBlox, Nightmares VS GigaBlox doesn’t so much move backwards as it shifts sideways. Even so, Nightmares VS GigaBlox still provides solid entertainment for GigaBlox fans to try out. The visual wow-factor wasn’t as strong this time compared to the last two, but horror lovers may see it differently.
