Money Mariachi Infinity Reels: Slot Overview

If nothing else, ReelPlay’s Infinity Reels engine has shown itself to be highly adaptable, supporting everything from ‘book of’ style expanding symbols to progressive multipliers and jackpots. Streak respin/ hold & win mechanics have also been part of the lineup, as seen in an earlier ReelPlay title, Thor Infinity Reels. The outcomes have varied, but the concept keeps rolling on regardless, like a pace-setter paying no attention to the broader slots zeitgeist. That may be about to shift. ReelPlay has taken a fairly familiar theme, splashed it (in the best way) across the Infinity Reels framework, and cranked up pretty much everything else that matters.

True to its title, Money Mariachi Infinity Reels is a Mexican themed slot drawing heavily on the Day of the Dead celebration. Most players will know this early-November festival, when families and friends gather to remember those who now dwell in the spirit realm. Rather than leaning into sadness, Day of the Dead themes let studios fill the reels with colour, and ReelPlay has delivered that in especially vivid fashion – both visually and in the soundtrack.

Every spin begins on a grid of 3 reels and 4 rows. Any win that involves the far-right reel causes another reel is added to the layout. If that extra reel extends the win, the process repeats, and only stops once the winning combination(s) are no longer improved. On top of that, a symbol multiplier affects all wins: it starts at x1 and increases by +1 each time a reel is added. Once a payout is made, the following spin resets to the standard 3×4 grid. From a maths perspective, volatility is high – with huge 50,000 times your stake upside to go with it.

Wins require at least five matching symbols, connecting from the leftmost reel. The first six pay symbols are low/mid values: bouquets, glowing objects, hats, maracas, gravestones, and candles – all rendered in neon-like colours to suit the theme. The higher-paying symbols are four characters, and these also show up in the respins feature as the special symbols. Rounding out the set is a guitar wild, which substitutes for all pay symbols when it lands.

Money Mariachi Infinity Reels: Slot Features

Alongside the Infinity Reels mechanic, there are three additional features: the Infinity Bonus, Level Up Respins, and a feature buy.

Infinity Bonus

The Infinity Bonus awards 888x the bet when 12 or more reels are added within a single round. This can happen on a base game spin or during Level Up Respins, and it pays in addition to any other win that applies.

Level Up Respins

Level Up Respins activate when 3 or more Shrine symbols land during a spin sequence – you receive 3 respins, and the triggering Shrine symbols are held in place for the duration of the feature. Shrine symbols start with a value of 1-10x the bet and reset respins to 3 whenever a new one hits.

Whenever a reel is filled in full with Shrine or special symbols, another reel is added to the grid. In addition, on each respin, every Shrine, Booster, or Charmer symbol collects a skull. Each time one of these symbols collect 6 skulls, it levels up, increasing its value by 1-10x the bet. The gathered skulls are then cleared, and the cycle continues.

When a Shrine symbol levels up, it may have a chance to transform into one of 4 special symbols:

  • Grower – levels up on every spin, no skulls required, by 1-10x the bet. Growers can obtain hearts from the Charmer symbol. Each heart adds an extra level up for the Grower on each respin.
  • Freezer – locks the respin count for 2 respins, then changes back into a shrine.
  • Booster – plays a sweet blast of violin as it increases all adjacent Shrine/special symbols by 1-10x the bet every time it levels up.
  • Charmer – lowers the skulls needed to level up for all nearby Shrine/special symbols by 1. It also grants 1 heart to all surrounding Grower symbols each time it levels up.

Here, ‘surrounding symbols’ means those connected vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Also, the skull requirement to level up any symbol can never be reduced below 1.

Feature Buy

Where available, players can purchase Level Up Respins for 100x the bet. The triggering spin will start with from 6 to 15 reels and may also activate the Infinity Bonus.

Money Mariachi Infinity Reels: Slot Verdict

When we tested it, there had been a small wave of Day of the Dead/Mariachi themed slots arriving, so we approached Money Mariachi Infinity Reels with a fair bit of caution. After all, there’s only so many times you can listen to Mariachi tunes while staring at skeletons, the dead, and glowing spectral lighting, right? Still, Money Mariachi Infinity Reels ended up being a genuinely welcome surprise, standing out as one of the stronger Day of the Dead slots and one of the best uses of the Infinity Reels mechanic. It feels like ReelPlay has either brought in fresh talent or fresh thinking, adding new ideas and giving the whole package a noticeably higher level of polish. Overall, it plays tighter in almost every way than many of its predecessors.

So what makes it feel so refined? For starters, the visuals have a crisp shine, and the animations are about as smooth as Infinity Reels gets, backed by a full-on Mariachi band that keeps both the eyes and ears busy. On the audio side, dropping Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries into big win count-ups is also a brilliant touch. The slightly flat feel that can come with some Infinity Reels titles is largely absent here, replaced by more energy than usual; the bold subject matter likely helps. The bonus can also become a real monster when Money Mariachi gets going. It can run for an exceptionally long time compared to many other bonus rounds. Our best session result landed at roughly 2,000x, and it took a solid 15-20 minutes to get there. Maybe less, maybe more—it’s hard to judge, since time kind of stopped mattering by the end. The feature just kept rolling, seemingly without end. And x2k is still modest for Money Mariachi, which carries a top prize of 50,000x the bet. It’s almost dizzying to imagine how long it could take to reach that.

Money Mariachi was an unexpectedly wild, lively slot, bursting with fizz. ReelPlay has managed to steer Infinity Reels away from the mechanical scrapheap it sometimes seemed headed toward, and into territory that’s genuinely interesting and easy to get excited about.
