When a Shrine symbol levels up, it may have a chance to transform into one of 4 special symbols:

• Grower – levels up on every spin, no skulls required, by 1-10x the bet. Growers can obtain hearts from the Charmer symbol. Each heart adds an extra level up for the Grower on each respin.
• Freezer – locks the respin count for 2 respins, then changes back into a shrine.
• Booster – plays a sweet blast of violin as it increases all adjacent Shrine/special symbols by 1-10x the bet every time it levels up.
• Charmer – lowers the skulls needed to level up for all nearby Shrine/special symbols by 1. It also grants 1 heart to all surrounding Grower symbols each time it levels up.

Here, ‘surrounding symbols’ means those connected vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Also, the skull requirement to level up any symbol can never be reduced below 1.

When we tested it, there had been a small wave of Day of the Dead/Mariachi themed slots arriving, so we approached Money Mariachi Infinity Reels with a fair bit of caution. After all, there’s only so many times you can listen to Mariachi tunes while staring at skeletons, the dead, and glowing spectral lighting, right? Still, Money Mariachi Infinity Reels ended up being a genuinely welcome surprise, standing out as one of the stronger Day of the Dead slots and one of the best uses of the Infinity Reels mechanic. It feels like ReelPlay has either brought in fresh talent or fresh thinking, adding new ideas and giving the whole package a noticeably higher level of polish. Overall, it plays tighter in almost every way than many of its predecessors.

So what makes it feel so refined? For starters, the visuals have a crisp shine, and the animations are about as smooth as Infinity Reels gets, backed by a full-on Mariachi band that keeps both the eyes and ears busy. On the audio side, dropping Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries into big win count-ups is also a brilliant touch. The slightly flat feel that can come with some Infinity Reels titles is largely absent here, replaced by more energy than usual; the bold subject matter likely helps. The bonus can also become a real monster when Money Mariachi gets going. It can run for an exceptionally long time compared to many other bonus rounds. Our best session result landed at roughly 2,000x, and it took a solid 15-20 minutes to get there. Maybe less, maybe more—it’s hard to judge, since time kind of stopped mattering by the end. The feature just kept rolling, seemingly without end. And x2k is still modest for Money Mariachi, which carries a top prize of 50,000x the bet. It’s almost dizzying to imagine how long it could take to reach that.
