Mighty Arthur (Quickspin): Review
Jokes aside, it’s a neat mechanic—but are they taking it a little too far? It worked brilliantly in Sakura, sure. They gave it a slightly different spin in Sticky Bandits, and now we get yet another take on it with the launch of Mighty Arthur.
First things first, though: Mighty Arthur is a very good-looking slot. Visual presentation is one of Quickspin’s biggest strengths, so it’s no surprise the graphics are this polished. With mostly low variance, Quickspin slots might not be aimed at hardcore gamblers, but they’re hugely popular with casual players.
Mighty Arthur draws on the folklore of the legendary British medieval leader King Arthur and the myth of the Excalibur sword. In the tale, the blade is magical and can only be pulled from the stone by the rightful king.
Mighty Arthur uses a straightforward setup with 5 reels and 20 paylines. After getting a bit worn out by complex titles like Reactoonz and Moon Princess, it’s actually refreshing to see a true “back to basics” format. The reel symbols feature medieval-style A, K, Q, J and 10 playing cards, goblets, helmets, spell-books, King Arthur, a stunning red-haired queen and a standard wild. What really keeps things engaging are the random features, which add excitement in both the base game and the bonus.
Mighty Arthur (Quickspin): Features
Merlin Random Wilds feature is active in both the base game and Free Spins Bonus feature. When the Merlin wild lands on any of the 5 reels, it can create between 2 and 6 extra wild symbols that are placed randomly on the reels. Merlin can show up on multiple reels, potentially covering the screen with wilds. In the base game, however, there’s no promise the Merlin Wild will add any wilds at all, and it can bait you in much the same way as the wild reels in Sakura. In the bonus game, by contrast, landing Merlin guarantees that wilds will be generated.
Arthur Wild symbol – when it lands on reel 3 in the base game and Free Spins Bonus feature, it expands onto the neighboring reels, turning them completely wild. You’re then assured of a winning combination. This is called the Arthur Expanding Symbol feature.
The Bonus starts when the scatter symbol lands at the same time on reels 1, 3 and 5. This awards 10 free spins. The Bonus scatter does not appear during the feature, so you can’t retrigger it, which is a bit disappointing.
That said, as noted, both the Arthur and Merlin wilds can land to give you a 3 reel Arthur wild across the middle 3 reels plus up to 6 additional wilds on the reels – and this can happen on every free spin. It’s absolutely possible to land a full screen of wilds.
Mighty Arthur (Quickspin): Verdict
It’s a fun game, even for those of us who don’t usually gravitate toward the lower-variance end of things. Yes, it’s a little silly to see a 100x win hailed as an Epic win, but that’s part of the territory with these slots. The max win on any single spin is 621 times the stake, so there’s still some upside. On top of that, the 96.94% RTP is excellent and should make it a solid choice for wagering.
