Nordic studio Snowborn Games turns on the neon for their second slot, Miami Glow. Working alongside industry heavyweight Microgaming, the Stockholm/Helsinki team previously released The Vault, a title that landed somewhere in the middle and drew mixed feedback from our test panel. Calling it mediocre may sound a touch severe, but it sometimes felt like the developers were trying to pack in too many ideas at once. Miami Glow, by comparison, feels more streamlined and straightforward. Even so, it still brings a good selection of features—and they prove to be genuinely effective.

Miami is practically a synonym for neon, largely thanks to the glow of South Beach. Blending Miami Vice styling with synth touches and a sunny, futuristic (but still old-school) atmosphere creates a theme with plenty of character. Snowborn uses that concept well in Miami Glow, and does so with admirable restraint. The backdrop is a minimalist’s delight, allowing the 5 reel, 10 payline layout to take center stage.

A retro soundtrack is essential for this kind of slot, and Miami Glow delivers. The music feels like it belongs in a montage of Jean-Claude Van Damme training sequences before he pulls on the gloves for a final showdown with the villain who wronged his girl. Overall, the audio/visual approach is understated—there isn’t much in the way of background scenery, but everything still comes together nicely. It’s a clear contrast to The Vault, which often leaned too hard into cinematic overload.

The math model stats should appeal to a wide range of players. Wins land at a steady pace with an official hit rate of 22.78%, meaning better than 1 in 5 spins. In addition, whenever a Sticky Wild appears on the reels, it activates the Sticky Wild Respin feature.

During the feature, any Sticky Wilds that land stay locked in place, and each time a new Sticky Wild drops in, an extra respin is granted. This loop continues until a respin produces no new Sticky Wilds—at which point play returns to the base game. Wins are awarded on every successful respin, and any active Multiplier is applied too.

The Multiplier feature can also trigger on any spin. One value—x2, x3, x5, or x10—is randomly chosen for a single spin and boosts any win that lands. The Multiplier may appear at any moment in the base game or while features are running.

Finally, Glow symbols can land on reels 1, 3, and 5. If all 3 are visible at the same time, 1 free spin is awarded in which wilds are stacked and can expand to cover up to all 5 reels simultaneously.

Miami Glow: Verdict

Overall, Miami Glow ended up being a solid release. In a lot of respects, it’s a step forward from Snowborn’s debut. The official description talks about ‘whisking the player away to a warmer place’, and Miami Glow does manage to achieve that—at least to a degree. It might have felt even sunnier if the visuals leaned more into style over practicality. Still, when you add in the audio, there’s a clear Miami club atmosphere running through it.

The features are what really carry the experience, especially given how often they show up. The restrained presentation keeps out of the way and lets the mechanics shine more cleanly than in The Vault. With features triggering regularly, the pace stays lively, and the game can suddenly drop a strong win when you least expect it.

Multipliers are always welcome, but the standout here is the respins feature. Landing sticky wilds in succession can build up a satisfying chain of consecutive wins, and it can get pretty wild when the reels run hot. If multipliers also land during the respins, the intensity ramps up even more.

The trade-off is the volatile math model, which stops the features from flowing nonstop. But when it does kick in, it’s a blast, and every part of Miami Glow works together smoothly to form an entertaining slot. The way the sound effects heighten each moment adds a lot to the overall feel. The upside potential is also respectable, since a full screen of diamonds or wilds, combined with the x10 multiplier, can deliver wins up to 12,500 times the stake.

In summary, it isn’t the visuals doing the heavy lifting. They’re fine, but not especially thrilling. What makes it worthwhile are the enjoyable features, supported by strong stats and a well-tuned math model.
