Medusa’s Madness: Slot Overview
Everyone knows Medusa from Greek mythology, but was she actually “mad”? That’s the thought that popped up before diving into Play’n GO’s online slot Medusa’s Madness and, inevitably, a quick Google rabbit hole. Some versions of the tale are pretty tragic—physical assault, a curse that turns her into a monster, and eventual decapitation—so if Medusa ended up feeling a bit bitter, it’s hardly surprising. Still, enough armchair psychology—this review is about a slot where winning symbols fill a meter that unlocks different features, building up to a Mega Wild Medusa symbol drop.
Medusa may have turned people to stone with a stare, but Medusa’s Madness certainly isn’t harsh on the eyes. If anything, it’s a striking scene from antiquity: a bare-chested warrior by the water, surrounded by mythological flair. Perseus is the hero who ultimately killed Medusa, so that could well be him in the artwork. A breathy narrator calls out features over swirling, mysterious music, rounding out an attractive myth-themed presentation.

Medusa’s Madness is a medium volatile slot that runs on a 5×5 gaming grid, using a cluster mechanic to form wins. Play’n GO has created five RTP setups, with the best option being the 96.59% version. Bets are adjusted via the controls beneath the reels, ranging from 10 c and a high of $/€100.
In Medusa’s Madness, wins land when 4 or more matching symbols connect vertically and/or horizontally. Winning symbols disappear, then new ones drop in to cover the gaps. The low-paying symbols are four coloured stone pieces marked with Greek letters, while the higher pays include winged shoes, a snake, a helmet, and a sword. Clusters of 4 OAK return 0.1 to 2 times the bet, while larger clusters of 10+ OAK award 2 to 100 times the bet. Special Wilds, Medusa Wilds, and Multiplier Wilds can replace any standard paying symbol. Multiplier Wilds double all wins.
Medusa’s Madness: Slot Features

Medusa’s Madness’ feature set starts with Eye Marks. Eye Marks can show up in random spots. An eye opens when a win is formed in the position of the Eye Mark. Once no further wins are made, opening the eye grants 2 Special Wilds onto the reels.
Stone Gateway
Wins charge the Stone Gateway meter. As the Stone Gateway fills up, Special Wilds are placed onto the grid at specific milestones. Alongside Special Wilds, the Petrify feature and Gaze feature can also be triggered when wins happen with added Special Wilds. After their effects play out, the game carries on as usual.
- Petrify – removes a row or column. The removed symbols contribute to charging the Stone Gateway.
- Gaze – chooses 1 regular symbol and removes all matching symbols from the grid.
Other World Free Round
Once 42 winning symbols have charged the Stone Gateway, players receive 1 free round featuring 3 random Stone Gateway Effects. If the Stone Gateway becomes overcharged, an additional Stone Gateway Effect is added for every 3 extra winning symbols collected – up to 7 effects at the most. In the Other World Free Round, a Stone Gateway Effect activates whenever no more wins occur, continuing until all effects have been used. Stone Gateway Effects are:
- Special Wilds – 4 Special Wilds are added to the grid.
- Petrify – 4 Special Wilds are added to the grid. If a win is achieved with any Special Wild, the Petrify Portal Effect triggers.
- Gaze – 4 Special Wilds are added to the grid. If a win is achieved with any Special Wild, the Gaze Portal Effect triggers.
In addition, during the Other World Free Round, 11 or 12 Eye Marks are positioned on the reels. Eyes are opened by forming a win in the eye’s location. If every eye is opened, the Mega Wild Medusa’s head symbol is dropped onto the reels, moving down one row per cascade before it vanishes. Cascades keep going until no further wins appear.

Medusa’s Madness: Slot Verdict
Play’n GO has plenty of practice building slots around a charge meter that gradually loads the reels with features. Moon Princess, Reactoonz, Honey Rush—the list is long, and it keeps growing with releases like Medusa’s Madness. That said, while those three titles reached varying degrees of excellence, Medusa’s Madness goes the opposite way. The Stone Gateway meter unlocks features that feel a bit flat. Special Wilds are fine—they substitute as expected and help create extra wins. But the Petrify and Gaze features mainly just delete symbols. Meh. So Medusa’s Madness loops along: filling the meter, hitting an Eye Mark win, adding wilds, then wiping out rows or columns.
There is at least a clear target to aim for: opening every eye in the Other World Free Round to bring the Medusa Wild onto the grid. Even then, it doesn’t really deliver. It’s simply an oversized wild that drops down the grid one row at a time, connecting clusters. Oh well. Unsurprisingly, Medusa’s Madness isn’t overflowing with win potential, though it does offer prizes of up to 2,000 times the bet for those who stick with it, putting it alongside Tome of Insanity and Tome of Madness. Whether you’re willing is the real question—some players may enjoy the repeating flow and beautiful visuals, while others will hold tight to the stronger examples of this Play’n Go style from earlier releases.
