Lightning Horseman Introduction & Symbols

Lightning Box Games is an Australian software developer that has been creating titles for both land-based and online casinos for well over a decade. We’d never really had a reason to cover a Lightning Box slot before, but with some spare time and nothing else lined up, we decided to take their new release Lightning Horseman for a spin.

Lightning Horseman is a 5-reel, 3-row slot with 40 paylines, 95,5% RTP and a bet level ranging from €0.40 to €50. It’s a straightforward game, and the retro-style presentation makes it hard to believe it was produced in 2018. This is a Jackpot slot with a couple of features that we’ll break down below, though it’s simple enough that it hardly needs an instruction manual.

The reels feature the usual low-paying A, K, Q, J symbols, along with 5 higher-value icons: ravens, wooden houses, guy holding lantern, lady in red cape, and treasure chests, with the latter paying 7,5x for 5 of a kind. The top-paying symbol overall is the Wild, which awards 15x for 5 across a full payline. Since wilds can appear fully stacked, landing a full screen of wilds is possible, which could potentially deliver a 600x max win on a single spin.

Lightning Respin

Landing 6 or more Lightning Bolt symbols (they don’t pay on their own and function more like a win block) activates the Lightning Respin feature and awards 3 initial spins. Any Lightning Bolt symbols that land are held for the duration of the feature, while all positions without Lightning Bolt symbols continue to spin. Each time additional Lightning Bolt symbols appear, they lock in place and the re-spins reset back to 3. The feature finishes once all 3 spins have been used, or if the screen fills entirely with Lightning Bolts symbols. After that, the symbols flip to reveal cash prizes or one of the jackpots.

If you manage to land all 15 Lightning Bolts symbols, the Flippin’ Re-trigger feature starts and all Lightning Bolts are flipped again to award additional cash prizes.

Lightning Jackpot

Mini, Minor, Major and Grand jackpots can be awarded at random at the end of the Lightning Respin OR Flippin’ Re-trigger bonus. These jackpots are fixed rather than progressive. Their amounts scale with your stake. At the minimum €0.40 bet, the Grand jackpot is €2,500 (6250x), while at the €50 max bet, the Grand jackpot is €62,500 (1250x).

Lightning Horseman Conclusion

Lightning Horseman falls short across the board. The visuals feel bleak, the payouts are just as underwhelming, and the Lightning Respin feature is something we’ve seen far too many times already. For that reason, we’d recommend giving this one a miss, especially when there are plenty of stronger titles available to spend your hard-earned money on.
