Legion X: Slot Overview
After a delay or two, it’s finally landed: fresh from the Nolimit City production line, Legion X is a Roman army-themed slot packed with every kind of x-branded mechanic you can think of, and then some. Anyone familiar with Roman history will know about decimation as a punishment—where every tenth soldier was randomly chosen and killed. It was a brutal, efficient way to deal with major wrongdoing in large groups. Legion X feels like the inverse of that idea, because it’s absolutely stuffed with features, all wrapped in the dark, atmospheric style the studio is known for.
It’s “dark,” but not in a way that should give sensitive players Mental flashbacks—Legion X doesn’t go quite that far. Still, it has a sharp edge: the scene is set under a bleak grey sky, as if the battle has just ended or is about to begin. In typical Nolimit fashion, the theme leans into a more primal angle than many Roman slots by highlighting the “barbarian” side of what Rome confronted. It may not carry the lurking tension of Das xBoot or the outright threat of Mental, but there’s a steady creepiness that pairs nicely with the excitement of trying out a new Nolimit City release.
Nolimit City also likes to play with reel layouts, and here it uses a 5-reel grid in a 2-3-2-3-2 formation. At the start, that setup delivers 72 ways to win, though both the number of ways and the reels can expand later on. RTP is available in multiple configurations too, beginning with a maximum default of 96.04%, and rising as bonus buys become more expensive. It probably goes without saying, but volatility is rated at 10 out of 10, or “Extreme” in the studio’s own terminology. Given what Nolimit City has been putting out this year, that can be either a gift or a punishment depending on where you land in the math. To round out the key stats, bets run from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin, and the game is playable on any device.
In Legion X, wins are made when matching symbols connect from the leftmost side across adjacent reels. The standard pay symbols are five stone-carved 10-A card royals paying 1-1.1x the bet for five of a kind, while the premium set consists of four intimidating barbarian characters plus a Roman legionary. A full five-of-a-kind premium hit pays 1.2 to 2.5x the bet.
Legion X: Slot Features
If you’re hunting for a slot that’s loaded with mechanics, Legion X deserves a spot on your shortlist. The base game alone is boosted by several special modifying symbols, and on top of that there are four separate free spins bonus rounds.
xNudge Wilds
Wilds introduce the first of the game’s “x” mechanics: xNudge Wilds. These wilds are stacked and always nudge into full view whenever they land partially off-screen. Every time a wild nudges, it increases its multiplier by +1. If a win uses more than one xNudge Wild, their multipliers are added together first, and only then applied to the payout.
Infections Wild
These wilds can land only on the first or last reel. When an Infectious Wild appears, it converts all instances of a randomly chosen low pay symbol into wilds on the three middle reels. If 2 Infections Wilds land, then all low symbols are turned into wilds across the three middle reels.
xWays
These symbols only appear on the first or last reel as well. xWays symbols transform into 2-4 instances of the same pay symbol type, increasing the number of win ways as they do. Landing 2 xWays symbols triggers Infectious xWays. Any matching symbols on the middle three reels—those identical to the revealed xWays symbol—also expand to the same size.
xWays and Infectious Wild
Landing an xWays symbol together with an Infectious Wild symbol triggers both modifiers, so the middle three reels are converted into Infectious xWays and wilds.
Legion X Spins
This feature starts when 3 bonus symbols land on the three middle reels, awarding 8 free spins. To begin, reels 1 and 5 receive an extra row, and any win multiplier built by xNudge Wilds persists throughout the bonus. Landing an xWays or Infectious Wild awards an additional free spin. Alternatively, if 2 special symbols land on reels 1 and 5, the feature is upgraded into an enhanced bonus mode.
Legion X Equestris Spins
If 3 bonus symbols land at the same time as 2 xWays symbols, you receive 10 free spins. In this mode, reels 1 and 5 expand to 4 symbols in height, forming an X shape. As before, xNudge multipliers do not reset between free spins, but now xWays symbols are sticky, resulting in Infectious xWays on every spin.
Legion X Fretensis Spins
This feature triggers when 3 bonus symbols land alongside 2 Infectious Wilds. The rules mirror Equestris Spins, except the Infectious Wilds are sticky, so they convert all low symbols to wilds on each spin.
Legion X Gemina Spins
Triggered when 3 bonus symbols land in conjunction with 1 Infectious Wild symbol and 1 xWays symbol – 10 free spins are awarded on the expanded game grid with a persistent win multiplier built by xNudge Wilds. In this version, the 2 special symbols on the outer two reels are sticky, so players get low-symbol-to-wild conversions and Infectious xWays on every spin.
Feature Buy
There’s plenty going on in Legion X, and Nolimit City lets players jump directly into each bonus round if they’re willing to pay for it. The feature buy options are 8 Legion Spins, 10 Equestris Spins, 10 Fretensis Spins, or 10 Gemina Spins for the cost of 70x, 300x, 750x, or 1,200 times their stake, respectively.
Legion X: Slot Verdict
Coming off the complexity of titles like Das xBoot—and to a degree even Evil Goblins—Legion X felt comparatively easy to follow. “Easy,” of course, by Nolimit City standards, which still makes it worth spending a little extra time with the paytable to take it all in. That said, you can also jump straight in and learn as you play, unlike Mental, which left some players puzzled even after serious rule-reading and extended sessions. Legion X, on the other hand, is more like a legionary battle—undeniably chaotic, but still carrying a sense of order that Rome was famous for.
Feature-wise, Legion X can feel like a lot at first, but it doesn’t take long to understand which symbols appear where and what each one does—then you can relax and enjoy the destruction. Nolimit City has become exceptionally good at bringing back older mechanics, tweaking them, blending them with others, and turning the mix into something that still feels fresh. Legion X is essentially a greatest-hits collection of the studio’s signature features, seen in games like those already mentioned, plus Barbarian Fury, San Quentin and East Coast vs West Coast, among others. Here, they hit just as hard as ever, and landing sticky specials during free spins can lead to wonderfully satisfying chaos.
On the payout side, Nolimit City has kept the max win a bit more grounded than some of their recent releases, and that’s not a bad move. The top prize in Legion X is still a hefty 31,000x your stake, and it’s refreshing that the studio doesn’t feel compelled to constantly one-up itself. The upside is that the theoretical chance of landing the max win is 1 in 36 million spins.
At the time of testing, very few studios generated the same level of hype for new releases as Nolimit City. You’d think that kind of momentum would bring serious pressure. Yet somehow, they keep delivering, and Legion X continues the run. It nails the atmosphere, the attitude, and—most importantly—the gameplay, making it a strong pick for players who want a volatile Roman Empire themed challenge.
