Kings of Crystals: Slot Overview
Step into a fantasy realm alongside three kings in All41 Studios’ slot Kings of Crystals. Who exactly are these rulers, and why are they seemingly ready to fight over crystals? We can’t really say, and the review won’t suddenly make it all click either. What is easier to pin down is that Kings of Crystals comes with three bonus rounds, and these can combine so that one, two, or all three features run together, all set in motion through a collection mechanic.
We had a faint sense of déjà vu with Kings of Crystals, as it brought to mind a recent look at Reflex Gaming’s 5 Clans. Both titles lean into a fantasy vibe, packing the screen with castles, broad landscapes, and distinctive characters. Kings of Crystals gives you three: a Kratos-esque warrior, a long-haired heroic type, and an elf-like fellow. Each is a paying symbol and each is tied to a crystal colour, which then connects to a particular set of features. The idea seems to be that these kings are competing for more crystals, though it’s not entirely clear. Maybe that’s simply what kings get up to.
You can jump into the fray on any device, with stakes ranging from 20 p/c to $/€20. The RTP is available in several configurations, with 96.4% being the one you’ll want, while volatility remains high across the board. The hit rate is also notably strong at 38.79%, and wins land when three or more matching symbols appear across the 5×4, 40-payline grid, starting from the left.
The three kings sit among the highest-paying symbols, joined by a gauntlet and a chalice. A five of a kind with these pays 2.5 to 5 times your stake. Filling out the paytable are metallic 9-A card symbols, each returning 0.75x the bet for a five-symbol hit. Wilds can lend a hand, showing up on reels 2, 3, or 4 and substituting for anything except scatters or money symbols.
Kings of Crystals: Slot Features
Collecting enough scatter symbols will ultimately set off free spin bonus rounds featuring one, two, or three modifiers. There are three scatter types that appear at random: red, blue, and green. When they land, each one flies into its matching collection meter.
Nudging Wilds Free Spins
The red scatter awards 5 free spins featuring full reel nudging wilds. This round uses an expanded reel set with two extra positions on each reel, pushing paylines to 100. If at least 1 wild lands, the reel nudges so that every position on it turns wild. Hitting a red scatter while the feature is running grants additional free spins.
Jackpot Free Spins
The green scatter triggers 10 free spins with the opportunity to land four jackpots. Watch for gold coins, which can drop in to reveal a cash prize of 1-10x the bet or a letter. Letters are collected, and completing a jackpot name pays out accordingly: Mini, Minor, Major, or Grand, worth 25x, 50x, 500x, or 10,000x the bet, respectively.
Multiplier Free Spins
Blue scatters start 5 free spins, and on each spin you receive a random multiplier of x2, x3, x5, or x10. Landing blue scatters during the feature awards additional free spins.
Free Spin Combinations
Different scatter types can combine to launch free spins with 2 or even all 3 of the features above running at the same time. This may occur straight from the base game, or if scatters are collected partway through an already active bonus round.
Buy Feature
Where feature purchase is available, Kings of Crystals includes a full menu of 7 options. Prices start at 20x the bet for Nudging Wild or Multiplier Free Spins and go up to 110x the bet for free spins with all three features enabled.
Kings of Crystals: Slot Verdict
Kings of Crystals had its upsides and downsides, though overall we struggled to see what it was really aiming for. The connection between the crystal theme and the rugged kings feels a little thin, coming across more strange than like a dramatic win-or-be-destroyed showdown. All41 doesn’t usually go all-in on high fantasy, so it gets some credit for trying a different direction. Still, the gameplay can feel a bit drawn out, and the visuals already seem dated, calling to mind the old Merkur slot Dragon’s Treasure.
Anyone who enjoys collecting symbols and filling progress meters may get some enjoyment out of the three different routes. The meters didn’t take an age to complete either. Our strongest outcomes came from the Jackpot Collection round, even if the largest jackpot we managed to land was the Mini. Feature combinations do add extra intensity, and being able to mix them via the bonus buy is a welcome addition. The 10k max win is another plus, although beyond the Grand Jackpot there’s a sharp drop in value. The old-school presentation of Kings of Crystals may ultimately be what puts people off. Some will appreciate the retro look; it didn’t do much for us.
Oddly, Kings of Crystals felt a little lacking in punch despite the number of features and a respectable top prize. It didn’t seem willing—or able—to truly let loose, at least in our experience. Picture a hesitant king, reluctant to send his large army against threats at the border while everyone urges him to strike, yet he keeps wavering over maps, never quite committing to the fight. That’s the kind of energy Kings of Crystals gave off. It might serve as a bit of fantasy escapism with a jackpot chase layered in for those who like this style. Otherwise, it’s not a slot we’d be rushing into battle for.
