Into the Storm: Slot Overview
Climb aboard a Viking longship and chase riches across the waves in the feature-heavy Into the Storm from developer SG Digital. Even the most hardened landlubber knows storms are best avoided out at sea, particularly in an old-school wooden vessel. Still, when thunder and rough weather roll in during Into the Storm, it usually signals features kicking off, including respins with walking wilds and streak respins powered by a smart Kraken Hot Zone mechanic.
No matter how the rest of the raid goes, SG Digital has chosen a fine moment to leave port. Skies are largely clear, the sails catch a steady breeze, and the water is calm—perfect conditions for a bit of virtual plundering. On the deck of the rugged timber ship sits a 5-reel, 3-row setup running 20 fixed paylines. The audio side is fairly restrained, though the occasional sound effects do add punch when they trigger, making for a pleasant start—slightly understated, but with a hint that heavier weather may be on the horizon.
In keeping with both the shifting skies and Viking spirit, Into the Storm is a highly volatile slot that can change pace in an instant. It comes in three RTP configurations, topping out at 96% and dropping to 94% or even 90% depending on jurisdiction. Betting covers a broad span, beginning at 20 p/c, going as high as $/€20 per spin, and it feels like the maximum stake has been kept relatively reasonable given the strong upside available to fortunate raiders.
Plunder is paid when at least three matching symbols appear, starting from the grid’s left most side. Five rune symbols make up the low pays, delivering 1-2x the bet for a five-of-a-kind line. Higher-value symbols include three Viking characters plus a helmet, awarding 4-20x the bet for five of a kind. Wilds have several roles, as explained in the features section, but their basic job is substituting for all standard paying symbols, and they only show up in the base game or during respins.
Into the Storm: Slot Features
SG Digital has loaded this journey with plenty to see, so buckle up as we run through Walking Wild Respins, Krakens, and the Into the Storm Bonus.
Wild Respins
The respins feature triggers at random on any base game spin. Once it kicks in, 2, 3, or 4 Walking Wilds land on the reels and move one position to the left or right (keeping the same direction) with each respin. If a Walking Wild steps onto a standard wild symbol, a +1 multiplier is added for the remainder of the feature. Respins finish when there are no Walking Wilds left in view.
Into the Storm Bonus
Kraken Bonus symbols can appear on regular base game spins, and seeing 3, 4, or 5 of them in view launches the bonus with 1, 2, or 3 Kraken Hot Zones, respectively. The Into the Storm Bonus runs on a 9×5 sized grid with 3 starting spins. Each spot spins to reveal empty spaces, multipliers of x1-x3, or modifier symbols, and when either of the latter two lands, the spin counter resets to 3. Multiplier and modifier symbols lock in place and also refresh the spins. Three modifiers work as follows:
- Hammer – lightning doubles a random number of multipliers.
- Treasure Chest – collects the values of all current gold multipliers.
- Viking Coin – increases the number of lives to 4.
The fourth modifier is the Kraken Hot Zone. Kraken symbols either land naturally or are granted at the start of the feature, depending on how many triggering scatters appear. Each Kraken forms a Hot Zone by placing multipliers of x2-x5 into all adjacent positions. These are not multiplier symbols. If Hot Zones overlap, their multipliers multiply together. When an actual multiplier symbol lands in a Hot Zone position, it is multiplied by the current multiplier value it lands on. When spins are exhausted, the sum of all multiplier symbols is paid out, or if the grid fills completely, players win 10,000x their stake.
Buy Pass
The Buy Pass feature lets players purchase immediate entry to the bonus round. You can buy 3+, 4+, or 5 scatters for 105x, 145x, or 185x the bet.
Into the Storm: Slot Verdict
So, is this the Viking Money Train 2? Not exactly, but Into the Storm is a solid streak respin slot with a couple of genuinely interesting twists. It has the feel of something from the SG Digital team behind Rise of the Mountain King, or at least created in a similar spirit, which is a strong compliment. At first glance it may bring Relax Gaming’s Sails of Fortune to mind, yet Into the Storm has more than enough of its own identity to keep fans of the streak respin style entertained.
The base game isn’t entirely smooth sailing either, thanks to the walking wilds respin feature. It’s clearly a supporting act to the main attraction, but it’s a welcome addition all the same. The real tempest arrives once the three (or more) required Krakens land, setting off the core bonus. There are some strong ideas here, with the Kraken Hot Zone standing out. Its ability to boost standard multiplier symbols is key, because without Hot Zones those multipliers only pay 1-3x the bet. Even so, Kraken Hot Zone multipliers aren’t enormous, and the best-case scenario is essentially two x5s overlapping to create x25. That can lead to some intense calculator work and the conclusion that, outside of full-grid wins, it’s very unlikely for near-misses to come close to 10,000x. Once that sinks in, the game can feel a little constrained—there isn’t quite the same anything-can-happen vibe as a Money Train 2 bonus where a surprise symbol can suddenly send the whole round into the stratosphere.
Approached with the right expectations, though, Into the Storm delivers enjoyable hold & win action with a Viking theme. It’s probably best to dial back hopes of wildly escalating bonus rounds—unless you hit a full grid, of course. It may not be challenging for the crown, but there’s plenty here for streak respin fans to try their luck plundering.
