Hot Shots Megaways: Slot Overview
Step onto the pitch with software provider iSoftBet for the next entry in its Hot Shots slot line-up. If the series is new to you, it’s football—only the players are animals rather than people. This release is the first to pair those anthropomorphic athletes with Big Time Gaming’s well-known Megaways engine. That said, Hot Shots Megaways is, in practice, a rework of Aztec Gold Megaways/Aztec Gold Extra Gold Megaways, bringing over elements like optional betting extras, cascading wins, Cash Respins, and modifiers.
Even so, Hot Shots Megaways has a very different look and audio style. Instead of the earlier jungle vibe, this one is simpler and more bubble-like. Despite an upbeat soundtrack, it didn’t deliver quite the same feel-good energy seen in other Hot Shots titles. That may be because the grid dominates the display and isn’t transparent like in the first game, and you don’t really get that “in the crowd” sensation either. So, beyond a couple of footballs spinning at the sides, the football theme isn’t pushed especially hard. Still, the animal symbols remain as offbeat as ever, and it’s easy enough to slip into a sporty mindset.

Hot Shots Megaways can be approached in a few different ways. The straightforward option is to set a standard wager of 20 p/c to $/€20 and spin, which comes with an RTP of 95.98%. Alternatively, you can switch on the Hot Shots Cup Fever side bet, which ups the stake by 25%, increasing the chance of triggering the bonus, and delivers an RTP of 96.48%. The other route is to purchase free spins, explained further down. Until then, gameplay runs on a 6-reel game grid with up to 7 symbols on each reel, allowing for 117,649 ways to win at maximum expansion.
Wins are formed when matching symbols land from left to right starting on the leftmost reel, and there are 10 standard pay symbols altogether. The first six are colourful 9-A low pays that award 0.5 to 1.75x the bet for six of a kind, while the top four—cheetahs, chickens, dogs, and deer—pay 2-50 times the stake for a six-of-a-kind way. Thanks to the cascading feature, winning symbols are removed and then replaced by new symbols dropping in from above. Cascades keep chaining until no further win is created. For extra support, wild symbols can land on reels 2, 3, 4, or 5 and substitute for everything except the Gold Ball scatter. Also available on every reel are mystery symbols, which transform into matching regular pay symbols whenever any appear on the screen.
Hot Shots Megaways: Slot Features

With most of the animal-football action already covered, what’s left is a set of three random modifiers plus a Cash Respins bonus. The three modifiers are:
- Hot Shots Cup – the Hot Shots Cup can show up on any spin and will either trigger Cash Respins or a Big Win.
- Max Megaways – if this lands on any paid spin, the reels fill out completely, giving the full 117,649 ways to win.
- Goal Scatters – on any paid spin, when this modifier activates, there is a chance to win Cash Respins or VIP Cash Respins. However, it isn’t guaranteed.
Cash Respins
The Cash Respins feature starts when at least 5 Gold Ball scatters land in regular play, or 4 if the Hot Shots Cup Fever side bet is active. The triggering scatters lock to the grid, and the game shifts into a hold ‘n win style bonus. You begin with 3 respins; whenever additional scatters land, they lock in place and resetting the respin count occurs. If all positions on a reel become filled with locked scatters, a multiplier equal to the number of scatters on the reel is applied to their values.
Alongside standard Gold Ball scatters, there are Mini, Major, and Mega jackpot scatters worth 30x, 100x, or 1,000x the bet, respectively. Once the respins finish, the combined value of every scatter on the grid is paid. Additionally, where permitted, two bonus buys are available. Paying 100x the bet triggers the standard Cash Respins round, while 150x the bet purchases VIP Cash Respins, played on a 7×6 game board with max positions available for landing scatters on.

Hot Shots Megaways: Slot Verdict
On paper, moving from a jungle setting to a football pitch sounds like a big leap, but iSoftBet keeps it minimal thanks to the reskin approach. It also makes Hot Shots 2 feel a bit underserved, as it doesn’t really gain any fresh feature at all. Even the overall presentation comes across as underdeveloped. Previously, with a little imagination, you could almost convince yourself you were watching an animal-packed match. Here, it’s largely a pinkish-purple backdrop with a couple of footballs added in. The character symbols still have attitude, but it’s not the most lively football experience you’ll find on the reels.
The upside is that the core play remains as entertaining as it was in Aztec Gold Megaways and Aztec Gold Extra Gold Megaways. Cascades and modifiers keep the base game moving, and the bonus round has its own appeal. iSoftBet clearly knows its way around hold ‘n win mechanics and has built plenty of them. Even so, it would have been good to see something extra in Hot Shots Megaways to make it stand out, but it’s essentially more of the same. One bright spot is that the Aztec titles featured high max win potential, which presumably has been carried across to Hot Shots Megaways too; most other aspects remain unchanged.
We noted that the gameplay is just as strong, though on reflection it may not quite match up. The Aztec games had a distinctive style that made them especially enjoyable to spin. By comparison, Hot Shots Megaways feels a bit flat, and that dullness does affect the overall impression. It can still deliver in the same way as the earlier versions, but the budget-looking visuals and the lack of anything new do take away from the experience.
