Heroes Hunt Megaways Slot: Overview

The phrase “third time’s the charm” feels spot on for Fantasma Games here. After a fairly muted reception to their first efforts with the hugely popular Megaways mechanic, they’ve clearly taken feedback on board and delivered what could well be their strongest title so far. While Flower Fortunes Megaways and Medallion Megaways weren’t poor games, they did come across as a bit standard in presentation—Heroes Hunt Megaways is a different creature entirely.

Partnering with the talented team at Relax Gaming may be the key ingredient. The slot runs on their Silver Bullet platform and also seems to have taken cues from Temple Tumble Megaways as a foundation. The similarities are there, but Heroes Hunt Megaways still manages to feel distinctive and, importantly, genuinely entertaining to play.

Once again, Fantasma takes the Megaways concept, adjusts it, and delivers something that doesn’t feel like the typical copy-and-paste Megaways experience. The theme is a cartoonish D&D-style adventure packed with heroes, loot, and dragons, and it starts strong before ramping up as you go. In RPG fashion, players gather items which, once powered up, can unleash everything in an exciting bonus round.

The setup uses 6 reels, with 2 to 6 symbols per reel, creating up to 46,656 win ways. That’s not the maximum Megaways configuration, but it still provides a huge number of routes to a win. Rather than changing symbol height as usual in Megaways, each tile stays uniform. Instead, reels can include standard symbols or blocker tiles, which may be removed at random. Fantasma also keeps the cascade mechanic, so winning symbols disappear and new ones tumble in to potentially generate additional wins from a single spin.

Fantasma has also created a fresh set of symbols, giving the game a far less generic feel than the earlier entries. Low-value icons are four coloured gems—dark blue, light blue, purple, and green. Higher-value symbols include a coin, a crown, plus the archer, wizard, and warrior. The top symbol is the dragon, although it only shows up during Dragon Spins, and it pays 20 times the stake for six of a kind.

Along with selecting a stake between 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin, players also pick which hero they want to begin with. There are three choices, and each provides a different modifier when activated. That said, there’s no need to overthink it, since the other two heroes can be unlocked later on. This can happen sooner than expected even with the game’s high volatility. A relatively regular hit rate of 26.86% helps, and RTP varies based on how many heroes are unlocked: with one active it begins at 96.26%, rising to 96.53% once all three are available.

Heroes Hunt Megaways Slot: Features

Free spins feature in action

As noted, the first choice players must make is which hero will kick off the hunt. There are three options, and each adds its own modifier to the action:

  • The purple Skeksis looking wizard provides an Explosion feature that removes multiple symbols or blocker tiles in a 2×2 or 3×3 area.
  • The lion warrior, bathed in gold, activates an Expanding Wild feature that spreads across an entire reel, similar to the one in Medallion MW. This expanded wild also carries a multiplier from x1 to x6.
  • The masked squirrel archer fires arrows onto the grid to clear 6-12 symbols or blockers and trigger a Respin.

When the energy field, sword, or arrow symbols land on reels 2-5, they activate the matching modifier described above—provided the relevant hero is currently active. At the beginning, only the modifier tied to the hero you selected is available. As play continues, the wild chest symbol can also grant EXP (experience) points, which are used to unlock the remaining heroes. Each additional hero requires three points to join the adventure.

After all three heroes have been unlocked, the game advances to the next stage where key symbols can be collected. Once 3 keys have been gathered, they trigger the Dragon Free Spins feature. This mode starts with 10 free spins, and Dragon symbols are added to reels 1-6. Any time a dragon symbol is destroyed by a modifier or by an Avalanche, it awards an extra free spin. When the feature ends, players pick a hero and begin the hunt again from the start.

One last detail regarding the chest symbol: rather than awarding EXP points, it can instead launch the Mimic Free Spins feature. This bonus grants 10 free spins and cannot be extended. During it, the chest symbol becomes wild on reels 2-5, and all hero modifiers are active. Once Mimic Free Spins finishes, you return to the base game exactly as it was when the feature began.

Heroes Hunt Megaways Slot: Verdict

Fantasma deserves credit for continuing their offbeat approach to Megaways. You can still sense echoes of the previous two releases, but here it’s delivered in a clearer, more enjoyable way. It’s evident the studio invested serious effort into making better use of the Big Time Gaming license this time. Megaways is still the foundation, of course, yet the overall experience feels so new that you might not even clock it immediately if you didn’t already know. Heroes Hunt captures the vibe of roleplaying games without burying players under endless tasks and stat management. The focus stays where it should: spinning for wins, not rescuing the kingdom from a crazed army of orcs.

If you usually dislike slots that require collecting items to access features, this one shouldn’t worry you—it doesn’t feel like a painful grind. In testing, heroes unlocked at a sensible pace, and keys followed without too much delay. Waiting it out can be worthwhile as well, since the bonus has the potential to become truly wild. The three modifiers are naturally strongest when combined, and free spins can stack up, keeping the feature running longer.

Dragon Spins are clearly the main money-maker, and in terms of maximum rewards, wins up to 26,000 times the stake are theoretically on the table. Results close to that are most likely late in the journey, once heroes are unlocked, keys are collected, and Dragon Spins are fully in motion. When it all clicks, the bonus round can be spectacular, with blasts, arrows, and expanding wild reels flying in from every direction. Still, it’s worth noting the slot is highly volatile, and reaching the next stage doesn’t mean free spins will necessarily arrive quickly.

Like many titles, it isn’t without irritations. For instance, it can be mildly annoying having to sit through full modifier animations even when it’s immediately clear they won’t connect. Also, cascades beyond two consecutive wins don’t happen often, and the respin feature frequently cleared most tiles only to result in a dead spin. Even so, Heroes Hunt Megaways stands out as a strong example of a developer pushing against the usual formula, trying something different, and landing surprisingly well. The gameplay, math model, and potential make this Fantasma’s best slot so far.
