Halls of Odin: Slot Overview
Odin isn’t just a headline figure in Norse mythology; he’s also a familiar face in online slots. Along with his son Thor, he’s appeared in everything from the old-school Thunderstruck II to newer titles like the one being covered here. Called Halls of Odin, it comes from Hacksaw Gaming partners Backseat Gaming, blending Norse lore with a comeback for mechanics seen in Commander of Tridents, including Mystery Nudge Gates, only delivered in a leaner, more streamlined way.
Despite the name and the mythic subject matter, Halls of Odin doesn’t lean into constant rage and thunder. The base game is set in a calm-looking Viking-style settlement washed in green tones, then shifts to a red-tinted look during the bonus round, almost like a traffic light changing. You won’t actually see the god himself here, so rather than a booming, stormy feel, the game carries a gentler mood—similar to Backseat Gaming’s earlier Norse release, Home of Thor. It works well enough, and the serene setting gives the impression the area is firmly under Odin’s watch.

Atmosphere aside, the gambling setup follows a familiar Hacksaw Gaming-style template, using a 5×4 matrix with wins assessed across 14 paylines. Rated 5 out of 5 for volatility, Halls of Odin is a highly volatile slot with stakes from 10c to $/€50 per spin, and it offers the higher of its two official RTP settings at 96.1%.
The lower-value symbols are stone chunks marked 10-A, paying 1x to 2.5x the bet for a 5-of-a-kind line. Higher pays include ravens, axes, helms, and golden wolves, returning up to 5x to 25x the bet. Wilds can land on every reel and replace any standard paying symbol. A 5 OAK wild line also pays 25x the bet.
Halls of Odin: Slot Features

Bonus content in Halls of Odin includes Mystery Nudge Gates, a Coin feature, a global multiplier, the Odin’s Trial and Fury of the Gods bonus rounds, plus feature buys.
Mystery Nudge Gates
Mystery Nudge Gates are fully stacked symbols that nudge upward or downward after landing. Each Mystery Nudge Gate that appears increases the global multiplier by +1. On top of that, every position the gate nudges across also increases the global multiplier by +1. Once a gate has covered its reel, it reveals pay symbols, wilds, or Eye symbols underneath. Eye symbols then uncover Coins or special symbols. If multiple gates are present at the same time, they all reveal matching symbols.
Coin Feature
When gates reveal Eyes, those Eyes open to reveal Coins, FS scatters, or Collector symbols. FS scatters can only show up this way during bonus rounds, awarding an extra 1, 2, or 3 free spins. Coins appear in three types and their value is added to the spin’s total win. Bronze Coins pay 1x-5x, Silver Coins pay 10x-50x, and Gold Coins can be worth 100x-1,000x. In addition, Collector symbols gather all cash prizes plus the values of other Collector symbols, then respin only the positions that held cash prizes. Any Collector symbols that were collected retain their value.
Global Multiplier
The global multiplier starts at x1 and increases whenever Mystery Nudge Gates land and nudge, as explained above. In bonus rounds, the global multiplier is persistent throughout the feature.
Odin’s Trial
Odin’s Trial awards 10 free spins after landing 3 scatters in the base game. It uses the base game rules, but with an increased chance of hitting Mystery Nudge Gates. Mystery Nudge Gates also become sticky and reveal pay symbols, wilds, or Eyes on every spin.
Fury of the Gods
Landing 4 scatters in the base game activates 10 free Fury of the Gods spins. The feature plays like Odin’s Trial, except Mystery Nudge Gates cannot reveal low pay symbols.
Feature Buys
In the feature buy menu, players can enable BonusHunt FeatureSpins for 2x the bet, making each spin three times more likely to trigger a bonus, or choose Runic FeatureSpins for 50x, which ensure at least two Mystery Nudge Gates land on every spin. Odin’s Trial can be purchased for 100x, while Fury of the Gods costs 200x.

Halls of Odin: Slot Verdict
Because the gameplay and several mechanics overlap, Halls of Odin can be viewed as a sort of sibling to Commander of Tridents, the Backseat Gaming release from 2023—just with a different god at the helm and those nudging Gates once again pushing the action. The difference is that while Commander of Tridents felt a bit like it was chasing the Mystery Museum formula, Halls of Odin pares things back and simplifies the flow. It’s not necessarily an outright upgrade, but it is arguably easier to follow and have fun with.
During the review, Coins were a major source of excitement, helped along by two supporting elements. First, the Collector symbol pulls in Coin values and the values of other Collectors, then re-spins the cleared cash-prize spots to potentially drop more values. Second, the global multiplier—thankfully—also multiplies Coin and Collector values, which can massively change outcomes. In fact, the strongest moments in testing came from collecting and multiplying Coin values. By comparison, Mystery Nudge Gates revealing pay symbols felt more inconsistent. There are also compromises in Fury of the Gods, where Mystery Nudge Gates can only uncover high-paying symbols. Unlike Commander of Tridents, where three or more Mystery Gates visible can pay from anywhere in a ‘book of’ style, lining up stacks of revealed high pays with matching symbols on other reels for a solid hit can be challenging.
Then again, the reverse can happen too, since the 15,000x max win is available across all game modes. While parts of the experience may feel familiar and the theme could have used a bit more hammer-swinging spectacle, Backseat Gaming has packaged everything into a neat, accessible slot that’s straightforward to play.
