Gorilla Madness – Overview
When gorillas come to mind, we usually picture the impressive yet peaceful giants of today, living among dense jungle and rainforest greenery, with birdsong and postcard-perfect scenery all around. They typically only switch into chest-thumping mode when challenged or when the alpha wants to make a point. Then Gorilla Madness arrived from developers Light & Wonder and gave us a very different take. We certainly didn’t expect any link to prehistory, yet from what we’ve read online there really was a gorilla-like ape called Gigantopithecus that lived roughly 2 million years ago. Thankfully, the gorillas featured in Gorilla Madness are the modern-day kind—just with outsized, larger-than-life attitudes.
Visually, the game goes for a playful, offbeat style with big, cartoonish artwork. You’re dropped into a prehistoric jungle scene where a bubbling river of molten lava runs past, while an erupting volcano looms in the distance—almost like it’s waiting for someone to yell Jumanji! Or for those ominous drums to kick in. Instead, as the slot boots up, you get tribal-style rhythmic drumming paired with a xylophone melody. The track is fine, but it leans more “tropical getaway” than “Gorilla Madness.”

You can play for 0.18 p/c to $/€88.00 per spin (yes, it’s a slightly unusual spread). Gorilla Madness is a medium to high variance title and runs smoothly on most desktops, mobiles, and tablets. In terms of format, it sticks to a familiar setup: 5 reels, 3 rows, and 243 win ways, paying for three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right. Based on official figures from Light & Wonder, there are three RTP configurations available, with 96% as the highest option, and the maximum win is listed at 2,761x.
Symbol-wise, the grumpy male gorilla and the eye-rolling female gorilla pay 0.5x to 11.3x the stake, while the three dinosaurs return 0.1x to 4.5x your wager. The coloured gems that also represent A-9 card ranks award 0.05x to 0.5x the bet, and the gold gorilla statue—also used as the scatter—pays 5x to 50x the bet. Keep in mind that scatter wins are paid on top of ways wins. The Gorilla Madness wild symbol substitutes for every symbol, including the scatter symbol. This wild can land on reels 2, 3, and 4 in both the base game and the free spins round.
Gorilla Madness: Slot Features

Free Spins
As noted earlier, the gold gorilla statue doubles as the scatter symbol. It is available in both the base game and the free spins round. Hit 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols on adjacent reels to receive 10 free spins. Once you’re in the free spins round, the low pay symbols do not appear, which opens the door to stronger payouts. In addition, the Gorilla Madness Jackpot feature can activate during free spins. Finally, free spins can be re-triggered while this mode is running.
Jackpot Game
One of the main attractions in Light & Wonder’s Gorilla Madness is the Gorilla Madness Jackpot feature. It can be randomly triggered whenever one or more wild symbols land on the reels. When it starts, you’ll see a screen showing 12 coins, and players pick to reveal symbols. If 3 matching symbols are uncovered, the related jackpot is paid and the feature ends. There are four jackpots: a Mini worth 27x the stake, a Minor paying 44x the bet, a Major awarding 833x your stake, and the Grand delivering a solid 2,222x the bet.

Gorilla Madness: Slot Verdict
Gorilla Madness wasn’t the easiest slot to assess—not because it’s poor or unpleasant, but because it doesn’t really bring anything particularly fresh or thrilling to the table. From a visual standpoint, it’s polished. The shift in scenery when the free spins round begins shows that care went into the presentation, and the oversized cartoon style plus vibrant animations make it feel inviting. The only real criticisms come down to nitpicks, like gorillas placed in a prehistoric world. And yes, the pink, headband-wearing ape with a serious attitude did catch us off guard (lol)—though that may well be the “Madness” in the name. The soundtrack is also a little left-field, sounding more like something you’d hear at a spa than alongside flesh-eating dinosaurs. Still, it’s meant to be light fun, and that comes through.
All in all, the experience is straightforward with a little extra on top. It’s simple to get into, and none of the features are difficult to understand. In our test play, free spins didn’t show up constantly, although we did land a few respectable wins. As for the top payout, 2,761x the stake isn’t especially headline-grabbing, though the game doesn’t seem aimed strictly at hardcore players. It’s not a bad offering, but Light & Wonder likely could have pushed that ceiling higher to attract a broader crowd. So, is there a strong case for playing Gorilla Madness? That really comes down to what you like. If you’re chasing high volatility and massive upside, then probably not. If you enjoy sampling new releases and want a quick escape, you may find Gorilla Madness to be a pleasant, easy-going, and light-hearted slot.
