Golden Leprechaun Megaways (Red Tiger): Overview
In October 2018, Red Tiger became the third studio to strike a Megaways agreement with Australian innovators Big Time Gaming, a partnership that delivered Mystery Reels Megaways roughly five months later. Since then, and perhaps taking cues from the Australians’ creativity, Red Tiger has run a few experiments of its own, which led to the creation of not one but two game engines – Power Reels™ and Multiline™. While not an outright flop, the wider casino audience has reacted fairly tepidly, and what most people have really been asking (us included) is when the next Megaways slot is going to land.
Golden Leprechaun Megaways is the name of Red Tiger’s second Megaways slot (or third, if you include the exclusive clone made for Paddy Power Casino). Featuring the familiar Megaways format of 6 reels and up to 117,649 ways to win, this Irish luck-themed title brings three random features plus a free spins round where those features trigger more often and where a win multiplier is also part of the package. With stakes ranging from 0.10 to €/$10 per spin, Golden Leprechaun Megaways is available on all devices, including Android and iOS.
Visually, it’s a polished Red Tiger release. The action takes place in the Leprechaun’s idyllic forest home, delivering a calm, almost tranquil vibe with birdsong and a hazy woodland background. On the wooden reels forming the front of the Leprechaun’s house, you’ll find standard card suit icons alongside pints of stout, notebooks, clovers, and red ribbons. The red ribbons are the top-paying symbol, awarding 50 times your stake for six across a full payline.
Golden Leprechaun Megaways (Red Tiger): Features

Powered by Big Time Gaming’s Megaways mechanic, each reel can randomly show between 3 and 7 symbols, creating up to 117,614 ways to win when the reels are fully expanded. Unlike plenty of other Megaways titles, there isn’t an additional reel sitting above the main set. To balance that out, the four middle reels can expand to 7 symbols rather than the more common 6.
In the base game, the leprechaun can randomly appear to greet you on any spin. When he does, you’ll be prompted to choose one of three mushrooms, which will reveal one of these Modifiers:
- Lucky Ways – symbols are randomly transformed to guarantee a win.
- Random Wilds – the leprechaun will add up to five wilds on the reels.
- Wild Stacks – gives you a chance to benefit from up to four wild reels with multipliers of up to 7x. Moreover, these can combine to give you a total multiplier of up to 28x.
Sure, that all sounds nice, but you might be wondering about the Free Spins feature. Fortunately, it’s included, and it triggers when 3 or more scatter symbols land anywhere in view on the reels. Called Lucky Spins, it starts you off with between 6 and 20 spins, based on how many scatters you hit to activate the bonus (and you can retrigger by landing another 3 or more scatter symbols).
Here, you’ll again pick one of three mushrooms, and it will once more uncover one of the modifiers listed above. So what changes? The modifier you receive will show up much more often than it does in the base game, and you’ll also gain an unlimited win multiplier that increases by 1 with every winning cascade.
Golden Leprechaun Megaways (Red Tiger): Verdict
As a Megaways release, Golden Leprechaun Megaways doesn’t really separate itself from the pack, either on the technical side or with its theme. Ideally, we would have preferred Red Tiger to push further beyond the obvious and take a more distinctive approach. While the modifiers add a touch of individuality, it’s still not enough to make the game feel truly new in such a crowded space. In that sense, Golden Leprechaun Megaways comes across as more of a lateral move compared to Mystery Reels Megaways.
That said, Red Tiger has still delivered a clean, enjoyable slot that should appeal to most Megaways enthusiasts, particularly with a win potential of up to 10,000 times your stake. Next time around, though, it would be great to see Red Tiger take a slightly bolder swing.
