Gold Digger: Overview
No, Gold Digger isn’t about someone shady who only cares about the cash in your wallet—though that would make for a curious slot theme. This Gold Digger from developer iSoftBet instead trundles along in a mining cart, digging, chiselling, and blasting gold out from under the earth.
Mining slots are hardly rare, as you’ll know, and they come in plenty of flavours—two of the best-known being Bonanza Megaways and Blueprint Gaming’s lookalike Diamond Mine Megaways. At first glance, Gold Digger seems to play it fairly straight, although the bonus round can still deliver the occasional unexpected twist. It won’t score highly for originality, but it does include a handful of mechanics that may appeal to players hunting for their own gold haul.
The action opens with a short ride down a mine shaft before an old-school prospector appears. If you’ve tried a mining slot before, you’ll recognise the stereotype—blue jeans, heavy facial hair, Stetson, and a slightly unhinged stare. This guy looks especially wild-eyed, hovering over a detonator like he can’t wait to set something off. He clearly loves gold… or maybe just explosions. Every so often he steps in by throwing a random modifier onto the reels. Rounding out the theme is a light, upbeat banjo tune plucking away in the background to complete the scene.
Unlike the trigger-happy miner on the reels, the volatility isn’t extreme, sitting around the medium-plus range. RTP is also nothing out of the ordinary, coming in at a solidly average 96.0%, which should suit most players.
You can stake anywhere from 20 p/c to $/€20 per spin to kick off the digging. The setup is straightforward, using a grid with 5 reels, 3 rows (which can be expanded), and 20 fixed paylines. Wins are formed by landing three or more matching symbols on a payline, appearing consecutively from the first reel onwards.
The paytable doesn’t hold many surprises, with most icons sticking closely to the cheerful mining theme—aside from the first four J-A royals. After those come a pick, a lantern, a carriage of gold, and the prospector. There are only 8 paying symbols, but they can return decent value, with 5 miners paying 25 times the stake.
Gold Digger also includes several special symbols worth noting. One is the explosion cloud wild, which can appear anywhere and substitutes to help complete wins. The wild replaces any other symbol, except gold nuggets and gems, to help create a winning combination. While this isn’t stated on the paytable, the rules explain that a win made entirely of wilds pays the same as the top symbol—here, that’s the old-time miner.
Gold Digger: Features

That miner isn’t just window dressing. Every now and then, the crafty old chap throws one of his tools onto the reels to alter the current spin and potentially improve your chances of landing a win. Triggered at random, this is what Gus the miner can dish out:
- Dynamite turns 3-5 symbols wild.
- The pick transforms symbols into nuggets.
- Pushing the detonator explodes and upgrades certain symbols on the reels.
Watch for the large, gleaming gold nugget symbols, each showing its own prize value. Hitting 5 or more nuggets locks them in place and triggers the Gold Link Respin feature, awarding 3 respins.
Any additional nuggets that land become locked too and reset the respin counter back to 3. The feature runs until the respins drop to zero, or the grid fills entirely with nuggets. Either way, the total value collected on the grid is paid out. Any gems that land also reset the respins
During Gold Link Respins, gems can also appear. Gathering 3 of the same type activates a booster, as follows:
- Reels Booster – blue gems unlock up to three extra rows.
- Values Booster – green gems increase the amount of all landed nugget values.
- Spins+ Booster – red gems award an extra respin.
- Multiplier booster – purple gems increase a multiplier level up to x10.
Gold Digger: Verdict
What initially looked like fairly standard stuff became more intriguing once the respins and boosters showed up in the paytable. Then came the waiting. In testing, countless spins passed before the respins finally decided to appear. Of course, that’s how luck goes—sometimes it turns up, sometimes it doesn’t. On the right day, maybe respins can arrive more frequently.
But when fortune isn’t on your side in Gold Digger, there isn’t much else to keep things moving. It can be all too easy to lose patience and interest in the whole mining mission. When respins did land, they were fine, but hardly memorable.
Gold Digger’s charming, easygoing presentation is definitely a plus, but the maths behind the polish can lead to long stretches of dead or low-paying spins. As mentioned, on Gold Digger’s best day, players are looking at maximum potential in the region of 8,230 times the stake. Getting plenty of nuggets is important, since they open up the only truly engaging part of the game. Outside of nugget payouts, though, there isn’t a great deal more going on.
Catch Gold Digger in a generous mood and it can provide some relaxed, low-key entertainment. It’s nowhere near a top-tier title, but it may suit casual gamblers with plenty of patience. Everyone else might get more excitement cracking rocks in the garden, hoping someone dropped a stray nugget somewhere.
Don’t Miss
If you liked this one, it’s worth giving the Megaways edition a spin too. Called Gold Digger Megaways, it arrives with a selection of additional features, making the gameplay much more lively.
