Gold Boom: Slot Overview
Games Global partner Slingshot Studios has moved on from its stage show-inspired slot Rabbit in the Hat 2, taking the core gameplay out of the magic act and dropping it into a mining backdrop. With slightly tweaked stats, the new release Gold Boom isn’t a perfect mathematical copy, but in practical terms it’s essentially a reskin. That means we’re looking at the same experience dressed in one of online gambling’s most familiar themes. So, is this a formula for fun, or something that feels a bit too predictable?
Visually, there isn’t much in Gold Boom that’s likely to blow anyone away. Unless you’re the type of player who loves a trip down the mine, guided by the classic quirky prospector: white beard, blue overalls, sturdy boots, oversized hat, and an ever-present sparkle in the eyes for gold. These characters are everywhere. This one at least comes with a name—Doug Deep—which adds a tiny touch of personality. Beyond that, it’s pretty much what you’d imagine if Rabbit in the Hat 2 put on a fairly standard mining outfit.

Gold Boom is available in three RTP configurations, with the default set at 96.14%. It’s a highly volatile title, lurching about like a minecart on rough rails, and it supports stakes from 20 c to $/€40 per spin. Mine carts roll along the top of its 5-reel grid, where each reel shows 3 symbols and wins are calculated across 20 paylines.
Five matching 9 to A card ranks pay 1 to 2 times the bet, while landing five of the skulls with hard hats, lamps, barrels, picks, canaries, or miner symbols returns 5 to 10 times the bet. Dynamite wild symbols appear on every reel. Wilds replace all standard pay symbols and can pay up to 50 times the bet when 5 of them land on a winning line of their own.
Gold Boom: Slot Features

If you manage to spot any meaningful feature differences, you could probably earn extra money as a sleuth, because there don’t appear to be any mechanical changes to the Mine Carts feature, Collection Prizes, free spins, Upsizer, Bonus Recharge, or the feature buy.
Mine Carts
During the base game, 1 of 5 mine cart types can show up randomly above the rightmost reel. To activate a cart’s prize, a wild symbol must land beneath a mine cart. It’s possible to receive more than one prize in a single spin. With each spin, mine carts shift one reel to the left, and if they reach the leftmost reel without activating, they’re removed on the following spin. Mine cart positions, Walking Wild Reels, and any held scatters are saved per bet amount. The mine cart awards are:
- Extra Scatter Mine Cart – awards 1 scatter symbol, which is held until 2 or more scatter symbols land on the reels, triggering free spins.
- Wild Multiplier Mine Cart – awards x2, x3, or x5 wild multipliers.
- Wild Reel Mine Cart – awards a wild reel.
- Walking Wild Reel Mine Cart – awards a walking wild reel, which moves 1 reel to the left per spin.
- Collection Prize Mine Cart – awards MINI or MINOR letters in the base game. Awards MINI, MINOR, MAJOR, or GRAND letters in the Collection Prize Free Spins game.
Collection Prize
Collecting every letter in MINI, MINOR, MAJOR, or GRAND awards 15x, 50x, 250x, or 2,500x the bet, respectively. In the base game, a MAJOR spin or a GRAND spin may randomly trigger, giving a one-spin-only opportunity to land all letters on a special reel set. MINI and MINOR prizes are available in both the base game and Collection Prize Free Spins. MAJOR and GRAND prizes can be won in Collection Prize Free Spins. MINI or MAJOR letter collection is stored per bet.
Free Spins & Bonus Recharge
Hitting 3 or more scatters starts the free spins feature. Free spins launch with mine carts above all reels, and on every spin a mine cart appears on the rightmost reel. Before the round kicks off, a wheel spins to award 1 of 4 free spins features. Whichever feature is selected is the only one that will appear during the free spins session: 20 Collection Prize free spins, 10 Walking Wild Reels free spins, 10 Wild Reels free spins, or 10 Wild Multipliers free spins. Once the wheel result is set, players can adjust the setup via the Upsizer. The on-screen display shows the costs for any changes. During the bonus, wild multipliers only affect the line wins they participate in, and free spins can be retriggered. Finally, when the free spins round is complete, players can choose to buy 1 additional free spin for a calculated price. This option may be restricted or not offered when the bet is above a certain level.
Feature Buy
With the feature buy, players can spend 50 times their bet to trigger free spins.

Gold Boom: Slot Verdict
Before slipping into full-on grumpy cynic mode, it’s worth giving Gold Boom a little credit. The shift from a magical stage show to underground mining is handled cleanly, and the features and overall flow are just as solid as they were in the earlier version. That’s largely the point, though. Rabbit in the Hat 2 wasn’t exactly a slot packed with jaw-dropping surprises, and Gold Boom follows the same path. The max win has edged up, however, now reaching 5,650.4x the bet instead of the rabbit slot’s 5,000x.
There’s also a bit of charm here. Perhaps developers lean on mining themes and friendly prospectors because it’s harder to be too harsh when a familiar, likeable character is front and center. You could spin plenty of theories about why Gold Boom exists at all—maybe Slingshot Studios genuinely wanted to pair a digging-for-riches setting with gameplay the team enjoyed. Maybe it was a fast turnaround; maybe their Games Global contacts asked for it. Hard to say. One of the clearer takeaways is that it isn’t an outstanding release. It’s fine, it does the job, but it’s also the kind of slot that’s easy to walk away from and leave buried underground.
