Gods of Gold Infinireels: Overview
Editor’s Note: We’ve published a Q&A with NetEnt Director of Games, Bryan Upton, talking about the InfiniReels (NetEnt) vs Infinity Reels (ReelPlay) situation. You can read it here.
Swedish studio NetEnt has earned a strong name for itself by consistently delivering fresh ideas that have kept players entertained for years. With their newest release, Gods of Gold, they introduce a mechanic that bears a very close resemblance to the Infinity Reels concept first seen in Australian developer ReelPlay’s El Dorado. The overlap is so obvious that, at a glance, even the names feel almost interchangeable.

What makes this case particularly intriguing isn’t only how similar it looks, but the fact that NetEnt is famously aggressive when others borrow from their playbook. A standout example was when they forced Play’n GO’s slot Starblast into a rebrand and back to the drawing board. Will the tables turn this time? We’ll see. For now, let’s take Gods of Gold for a spin and find out how much originality it really brings to the table.
Gods of Gold is an attractive slot set inside an Aladdin-style treasure cave overflowing with gold and gemstones. The Middle Eastern atmosphere is reinforced by an Arabian Nights-inspired soundtrack, while the grid is packed with similarly exotic faces. It’s the familiar high-quality presentation NetEnt is known for, even if the reels don’t glide through a rich backdrop the way El Dorado did.
The game is built around 20 coins, each with values ranging from 0.01 to 10 credits. That translates into total bet levels of 20 p/c up to $/€200 a pop – placed manually or via up to 1,000 auto spins. The default layout is a 3×3 grid featuring satisfyingly large symbols. The selection is a bit quirky too, aside from the four gemstone low pays that feel fairly standard. The premium symbols are a darker, more menacing cast: an owl, bull, queen, and king. For some reason they all look thoroughly annoyed, which makes taking their coins feel even more rewarding.
Wins are paid when three or more identical symbols land consecutively on any row. A wild symbol supports this by substituting for any paying symbol. Note that it only appears when four or more reels are active – never in the basic 3-reel setup. There are no fixed paylines; instead, the game begins with 27 win ways on the 3×3 grid, and this figure is multiplied by 3 each time an additional reel is added. Other key numbers include a player-friendly RTP of 96.12% and medium/high volatility to add some uncertainty to the ride.
Gods of Gold Infinireels: Features
First up is the headline Infinireels mechanic, which activates whenever a winning combination appears on the screen. When that happens, an extra reel is appended to the grid. If the newly added reel contains a wild or another symbol that continues the win, yet another reel is added. This can continue repeatedly, as the name implies, until no fresh winning symbol lands and the grid snaps back to its 3×3 starting size.
With symbols stacking up and being pushed along as new reels appear, it can be tricky to follow the action. To help, the Minimap gives a clear snapshot of the current state. It pairs with the Symbol Counter, which shows how long a win chain is and how many win ways are active at that moment.
Once the spin sequence ends and no further wins appear, the game may randomly award a Respin. When triggered, a genie character bathes the final reel in green magic, and the outcome is always a guaranteed win. Another add-on that can occur during a win is Multi Slam, which randomly tacks on 2-3 extra reels to deliver another guaranteed win.
Finally, the main bonus is the Win Spins Free Spins round. The pearl/golden sun icon acts as the scatter, and landing 3 at the same time awards 10 Win Spins. Any additional scatters visible add 5 extra Win Spins each. The bonus follows the same rules as the base game with one crucial change – every Win Spin guarantees a winning payout, and retriggers are possible to keep the session going.
Gods of Gold Infinireels: Verdict
Gods of Gold is a solid slot, but there’s no denying the “inspired by” vibe is hard to ignore. NetEnt has dressed things up with the Minimap and the Symbol Counter, yet at its core it feels like ReelPlay’s Infinity Reels with a handful of extra touches. Can players still enjoy it? Absolutely. It’s quick to understand, the expanding reels show up often enough to keep things lively, and the added features do help it stand out a little.
The Respin results keep momentum in the base game, while the highlight is the guaranteed payouts during the Win Spin feature, which can build into a respectable total. At full stretch, Gods of Gold can reach wins in the 25,000 times the stake range. That said, it’s extremely unlikely to hit that level, as it occurred only once in a simulation of 11.6 billion spins. More typical outcomes sit in the 500-2,500x range.
Still, even with Gods of Gold’s strengths, much of the conversation will likely focus on how close NetEnt’s Infinite Reels are to ReelPlay’s Infinity version. This is NetEnt, after all – a company known for sending lawyers after anyone who mirrors their concepts. Adding to the irony, the name itself has already been used by 888 Holding for their Greek themed title called, yes, Gods of Gold.
All things considered, as a standalone slot, Gods of Gold delivers. The visuals are polished as you’d expect from NetEnt, the features are entertaining, and the math model feels dependable. There’s plenty of upside thanks to Infinite Reels and guaranteed wins, and yet the real drama may be off-screen. Does Gods of Gold get to flourish, or will ReelPlay’s lawyers come crashing down on it like a crazed kangaroo? Stay tuned.
