Gimme Gold! Megaways: Slot Overview
Developer Inspired expands its Megaways line-up with what may be its most by-the-numbers entry so far. Called Gimme Gold! Megaways, the slot borrows heavily from Blueprint Gaming’s gold-mining themed Diamond Mine Megaways, which was notably the first non-BTG Megaways title. What stands out is just how closely these two games align in terms of features, flow, and overall presentation. If these were the only Megaways slots you’d tried, you could easily assume the format hadn’t evolved much in the years between them. The expected ingredients are all present, including mystery symbols and free spins featuring an unlimited multiplier. One additional betting choice adds a small twist, but beyond that, the experience is largely familiar and fairly easy to predict.
Gimme Gold! Megaways runs on a classic Megaways layout featuring 6 main reels plus a 4 symbol horisontal extra row positioned above them. As with other Megaways games, the main reels can land anywhere from 2 to 7 symbols, allowing up to 117,749 ways to win when fully expanded. The action plays out in a canyon scene with cacti and creaky wooden supports, while fast-moving clouds suggest a blustery day. A banjo sting occasionally punctuates wins or free spins, and blasts go off as winning symbols disappear from the grid. Visually, it’s very much standard Megaways fare—either comfortably familiar or a bit too unoriginal, depending on what you’re looking for.
Playable across devices, Gimme Gold! Megaways offers base stakes from 20 p/c to $/€10 per spin. We say base bet because the game also includes a Fortune Bet function, which boosts the wager by 50% when switched on. In return, you get a higher chance of landing free spins, thanks to more bonus symbols appearing during the base game. Rated Highly volatile, Gimme Gold! Megaways has an RTP of 95.5%, and this figure stays the same whether Fortune Bet is enabled or not.
Wins are paid when 3 to 6 identical symbols connect on adjacent reels starting from the left. The one exception is the prospector symbol (a must-have in this theme), which pays for 2 or more. He’s easily the top payer, awarding 50x the bet for six of a kind. Next come the premium symbols—gold carts, picks, and shovels—with 6 of a kind returning 2-7.5x the bet. Rounding out the paytable are 9-A symbols, styled in a traditional Western font. One last symbol to note before the features is the explosion wild, which appears only on the upper reel and substitutes for all symbols except the bonus symbol.
Gimme Gold! Megaways: Slot Features
Inspired doesn’t really use Gimme Gold! Megaways as a platform for fresh ideas. The core mechanic is the cascade feature, which activates on every win. Winning symbols are removed and replaced with new ones, potentially creating further wins. Cascades keep dropping coins until no additional combinations form, after which the next spin begins.
Also included are mystery symbols, which can land anywhere and show up as bundles of dynamite. All mystery symbols currently on the screen then transform into one random regular pay symbol, helping to improve the odds of landing a stronger payout.
During the base game, landing 4 or more barrel scatters anywhere triggers the free spins round – each extra scatter adds +2 free spins up to a maximum of 80. Free spins include a win multiplier that begins at x1, and every winning cascade increases it by 1. In the bonus, scatters appear only on the top reel. Hit 3 or 4 scatters there to collect +5 or +10 extra free spins.
There’s one additional technical feature called Spin Chance. It activates automatically if your balance falls below the current spin cost but remains above zero. In short, it lets you stake whatever credit you have left at the current bet level.
Gimme Gold! Megaways: Slot Verdict
When set against Inspired’s earlier Megaways efforts, Gimme Gold feels like their least original so far. The main standout is the Fortune Bet option, and since it doesn’t increase RTP and doesn’t clearly spell out the statistical edge, some players may wonder how worthwhile it is. It’s also difficult to measure Fortune Bet’s impact because free spins can feel so random in how they land. Still, there’s no obvious reason to doubt the stated benefit—so if seeing more bonus symbols is worth the 50% stake increase to you, it may be a fair trade. Beyond that, the game behaves pretty much exactly as expected. One point to consider is that other mining-themed Megaways slots are available with higher RTPs. Even so, there’s no reason to question Gimme Gold’s upside, which includes a win cap of $250,000.
For a title called Gimme Gold! Megaways, it isn’t the most inspired Megaways release from the studio. It lacks the charming touches found in Centurion Megaways and doesn’t have the rough-edged feel of their first Megaways game, Desperados Wild. It does raise the question of why Inspired chose such a conventional approach here. The market is already full of these “starter pack” Megaways slots—did we really need one more? Extra variety isn’t inherently negative, but given how inventive Inspired has been with Megaways before, Gimme Gold ends up feeling like a sideways move. It could have been more compelling if it followed the Desperados Wild approach and offered free spins choices when triggered. As it is, it doesn’t, leaving a cheerful enough experience that delivers the standard Megaways thrills, and not much beyond that.
